Are the funds on the device recoverable in anyway after doing it and not able to access the ledger by plugging it in?
With the 12 word paraphrase you should be able to transfer the cryptocurrency in question to another wallet off the device right?
If you are using your seed words (Ledger Nano S have 24 word seed), then you can restore your wallet in any new HW by just entering you seed. In that way all you coins will be restored, assuming you're using same HW again. Some other HW does not necessarily support all coins supported by Ledger.
In case you want to restore your wallet in any desktop wallet, you need to be especially careful due to the fact that there is a lot of fake wallets. So smart move would be to use trusted
BTC wallet in the first place, and after recovery send
BTC to brand new wallet. In this way you protect most valuable coins first, and then use that seed to recover others. If seed fall into the wrong hands and you are not fast, all your coins will be lost very quickly.
