Is there a coin that can mine with the cpu/GPU on a gaming console such as Xbox or Playstation? It's seems like these are fairly power devices and could be used to mine when not gaming. Or is there restrictions on what programs they can run?

Why you would want to burn out home electronics to make AT BEST a few pennies?

P.S. gaming consoles are not very powerful devices really. An Xbox One has the same average horsepower as a $200 throwaway netbook.

Officially my Galaxy S9+ has the same amount of RAM and a faster processor than your gaming console....

Best to just build a gpu rig if you want to learn about mining and spec mine some alts.

Ok, I want you to walk back in there and very calmly, very politely tell the risk assessors to fuck off! -Mark Baum

People did manage to mine in the past with I think some version of the Xbox/Playstation (can't remember which) because it had a Tahiti GPU chip which is exactly what the Radeon 7950 was.

It was only profitable maybe during the 2013-2014 days when Litecoin had a good rally however it was very difficult to get it to work. You obviously had to have a mod chip and had to install special software.

Also the cooling was very bad for intensive mining so it was never a big hit. That and the PSU also would most likely burn out.

You need to remember that most games never use 100% GPU usage like mining, hence the reason why they manage to run with poor cooling, however it would never work for mining. Especially Litecoin which is very GPU intensive.

I would say XBOX/PS4 GPU specs are between 7850 and 7870, away from 7950...

Thanks for the responses everyone. I had no idea how under powered the consoles were compared to modern mining GPUs.

Xbox 360 had the Ati Radeon 7950 as a graphic processor together with 8 Gb of Ram and no one managed to mine through this console, no programmer were able to make a mining software compatible with it.

The same can be said for today generation consoles, mining with them is not worthy, you would do more harm to the device than profit from mining.

There is no coin that mine using the gaming console and for me it is not profitable in mining any coins... better participate in bounty campaign or airdrrop:)
