I am using google keyboard in my android smartphone and just updated, but I haven't seen Bitcoin icon! Maybe it is only for IOS smartphones. What does it mean? Google will be supporting Bitcoin officially very soon? Like Samsung took Bitcoin as a payment method for specific counties for a test, I hope Google will use cryptocurrency in their Adsense and other services.

Wait, is it me or do they also have the Petro (venezuelan crypto, also known as a scamcoin1) symbol? The one that looks like a 'P' (just google "petro venezuela" to search for the Petro symbol). Weird, maybe that symbol can be used for something else? That's gotta be it, I mean, why would they have that one on their phones? I don't use iOS, btw.
That's the Russian ruble:

Google’s decision to include a cryptocurrency symbol in its keyboard may be Google’s second step in considering Bitcoin as the main currency. It remains to wait for Google to further legitimize cryptocurrency, also making the bitcoin symbol available for Android operating devices.

I just updated Google Keyboard on iOS just to check the BTC symbol but it's not there. I suppose there is something that I'm missing. Can you please post the AppStore link here?

Those small additions are certainly good for bitcoin adoption. No, they aren't. How exactly is this gonna help bitcoin adoption? This is just a "comestic" thing that doesn't change anything other than instead of typing "bitcoin" you're now gonna type " BTC". Of course it helps. People will look at BTC and ask "what is this?" I search about it. Or they will think " so this is bitcoin symbol. Google is supporting it? Let me check it out"

Well it's cool but it doesn't really mean anything. Bitcoin is not as it was before when few people are aware of it. It's quite common now so it just makes sense that google keyboard includes it. Though i've tried with my android device and it's not quite showing yet.

I have updated my android just a week ago I use google keyboard only instead of using Samsung's proprietary keyboard. Sadly, it is not appearing in my android device. I am using android Oreo in one of the latest smartphones from Samsung! Can anyone else confirm the same?
Same here. I also have Oreo on Android with Gboard fully updated. Looks like they haven't added this to the Android app yet, which seems like a very odd move for Google. It's like they wanted to roll this out to as few people as possible. Is this some kind of prank of Google? I don't know any Iphone users (who are my friends) personally who downloads a 3rd party keyboard on their phones let alone it being a Google Product, so why bother adding a BTC sign when your loyal Android users don't receive it on their stock keyboards?
I was just thinking the same thing. It almost seems like a joke...

So adding bitcoin symbols to the Google keyboard is a step closer for the tech giant to support bitcoin. At present, Apple has not officially enabled bitcoin symbols. In addition to Apple and Google, other technology giants such as Microsoft are increasingly supporting Bitcoin. Microsoft products allow users to insert encrypted currency symbols by entering 20BF and ALT.

it's very positive to the advancement of bitcoin and crypto in general in terms of recognition that this technology is here to stay. Imagine the next thing will be adding an incognito mode of keyboard with shortcuts to put our crypto wallet/private keys in there, must be terrific.

Yeah, terrific idea. Really terrific!!!! Everyone is advising not to share the private keys and keep them safely in physical or at least encrypted form in an offline state but you suggest to keep them on your phone, with an app having access to them and with the possibility to send them by mistake. As I said, really terrific!!

It is because bitcoin term was frequently used by the people and really began to a road as a crypto-currency and was a proven legit coin in the industry. I am actually using my iPhone but I don't see the bitcoin sign. I hope that Apple will also let us use the Bitcoin sign. They said that bitcoin sign in iOs devices shows but I think it really depends on the model. Let me check it on the Android device of my friends if it really shows there.

Took them long enough... the BTC symbol was added to Unicode in 2017, and if you are on Linux you can follow my guide to assign it to any keyboard key (or key combination): ₿
