... and I find option for sign message in Bitcon App with many addresses, pick one and use it for receive payment. What I did know at that time is that this address is change address, and that Ledger will not check that address - so my transaction history never show that transaction, nor did the balance increase for the amount received.
Yeah, it seemed like there were a LOT of users that used that "sign message" option to get a Bitcoin address to send out as a receive address?!? I'm still not sure why people would do that and not simply click "receive"? Huh Roll Eyes Tongue

In addition, it really didn't help that the addresses in that dropdown box were order "alphabetically" rather than in actual address index order (as per derivation path)... this often lead to users getting an address that was a change address (as in this case) or out past the gap limit on other wallets etc Roll Eyes

Then for the first time I see how bad is Ledger support, they had no idea how to solve this problem and they are probably in same situation today.
I've no idea regarding the size of the Ledger company... but their support seems to leave a lot to be desired... especially for a device which isn't exactly cheap. A lot of the documentation in the knowledge base was/is outdated and I've seen stories from people who have emailed and had to wait days (if not weeks) to get a response.

It's possible that their popularity meant that they just got overwhelmed by a lot of new users and/or that they simply failed to invest enough resources into the support side of the business.

I'm very lucky in that I've been able to solve any issues that I've had (mostly while updating the firmware with things not quite going according to plan etc)... so I have not personally had to deal with the support.

but they also make something (at least in my case), with this firmware which is crushing Ledger Live on Windows 7. Do you know what Ledger support say to me? To try with Windows 10, as if I did not even know it myself...
Dropping support for older operating systems is always a contentious issue... a lot of companies seem to underestimate how many users are actually still running really old operating systems on really old hardware. Still, the reality always seems to be that the majority of people can and do upgrade... but of course you don't hear about it, because they don't complain. You only ever see complaints from the (very) vocal minority who don't/can't upgrade Wink

I'm happy with my Nano S (aside from the current issue with the ETH app hogging the limited memory)... and I'm happy with my Trezor ONE. Honestly, at the end of the day, I'd happily recommend either.

It is possible that Trezor also has similar problems, but I did not notice that it was so pronounced, at least on this forum. I have an impression that I would have better experience if I buy Trezor instead Ledger, but that's just my personal opinion.

According to the wiki, Trezor devices are compatible with Windows 7 so there shouldn't be any major problems. Trezor support acts quickly. You can even contact its team on the Telegram.

~snip!

Just because I want (and any other user probably ), to have some recognizable address, in my case it was for signature campaign. It did not occur to me that address which is part of the wallet will not be checked by Ledger app.

Regarding support, it is certainly not at the level where it should be considering the seriousness of the company. They produce and sell hardware cryptocurrency wallets, not children's toys or cutlery.

We provide dedicated support from Monday to Friday (9 AM - 17 PM CET) through our online contact form, the live chat on ledger.com and as @Ledger on Twitter. Ledger does not provide phone support.

https://support.ledger.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006554854-How-to-contact-us

It would be nice to have 24 hours support, and not only 5 days in week. But I must admit that I first time see option for live chat, however it seems that it is not working at weekends.

Maybe Ledger is not make smart move with no support for Windows 7, this will for sure take a portion of the users on Trezor side. They should provide support for this OS at least until Microsoft provides support for the same.

BitCryptex, I know Trezor support W7, it is one advantage they have at this time, and they show it is possible to do that without any problems for company or users. Thanks for info regarding Telegram support Smiley

What I don't like about the Trezor is that they created a new hardware device with support for coins the previous version lacked, whereas Nano Ledger is more versatile and, it seems, more backwards compatible when you upgrade. Lots of bitcoin maximalists like the Trezor, but for those who like alts I think the Ledger Nano is better.

Number of supported coins in Ledger is 1185, and in Trezor is 1071, so Ledger is have a small advantage for that matter. To me this number is not something which is too important, but I understand that some users literally counts each coin before they decide to buy hardware wallet.

What is more important when comparing hardware wallets is general support and price. Most users have never heard for most of the supported coins, and they will probably never use it.

Additionally... most of these "coins" are actually just ERC-20 tokens. I would think that adding new ones is relatively trivial after initially implementing ERC-20 support.

However, I do note that Ledger actually refer to the items in their list as "assets" rather than coins and/or tokens... whereas Trezor uses "Coins & Tokens".

Yeah, I actually find it a bit disingenuous of all hardware wallet manufacturers to list 1000+ coins/tokens/assets. Once you support Ethereum, then you can just add every single new shitcoin/ICO that is created as another number to your tally.

I would also much rather Ledger worked on full bitcoin functionality with things like native SegWit support and UTXO selection in Ledger Live, rather than just supporting more and more useless alts that 99% of users don't care about. Ledger Live is a really nice interface, but Electrum still works better.
