Thanks for keeping this thread updated, tranthidung. I still don't know how I squeaked into the 2000 earned merit club, but I'm cool with it. Everyone else in that list makes posts that are far above and beyond the quality of mine, so it's a big LOL that I'm in the list.
Also, it's very nice to see that there are a lot (in a relative sense) of members who've earned 250 merits or more. I don't exactly keep track, so it's good that you have a running list. It definitely shows that earning merits and ranking up is possible--I'm sure a lot of new members think they're never going to get to even Full Member given how hard it is to earn the requisite number of merits....but it can be done.

Thanks for keeping this thread updated, tranthidung.
I initiated the club, then LoyceV help to keep it updated everyweek.  I'm sure a lot of new members think they're never going to get to even Full Member given how hard it is to earn the requisite number of merits....but it can be done.
To be honest with you, I had same feelings in 2018 (will never hit high ranks from Senior Member and above), when merit system began. I started from scratch, and the system took me more than one year (~13 months) to become a Full Member, but from that day, it took me around 6.5 months to move upwards to Hero Member rank. That's amazing and inspirational fact, isn't it? My story is here: I am on the way to Hero Member rank. 1) Self-Custody is a right. There is no such thing as "non-custodial" or "un-hosted." 2) ESG, KYC & AML are attack-vectors on Bitcoin to be avoided or minimized. 3) How much alt (shit)coin diversification is necessary? if you are into Bitcoin, then 0%......if you cannot control your gambling, then perhaps limit your alt(shit)coin exposure to less than 10% of your bitcoin size...Put BTC here: bc1q49wt0ddnj07wzzp6z7affw9ven7fztyhevqu9k

My account on this forum was a self-made legendary on and before January 24, 2018, before it even received 1 merit... of course, merits were airdropped to my account on that day, but my account turned legendary in about mid-to-late 2016, I believe.... is that right? Sometime around my 1,000 activity level. In other words, I am repeating a theme regarding giving less than 2 ratts' asses about "self-made" assertions. But hey, don't let me ruin any fun. Back then, any spambot could become Legendary, so it wasn't much of an accomplishment. And if theymos ever introduced a new Rank (I suggest a simple "Legend"), everybody will have to make it their on their own. |

My merit receipts seem to have dropped off over the last few months. I'm not sure if that is the result of soe changes in Bitcoin Talk, or a disenchantment in me. There is quite a lot of effort involved in maintaining some of the projects associated with Bitcoin Talk, and one needs encouragement to maintain one's interest. Having posts deleted is also a discouragement.
I'm considering reviving some of them, and monetising the associated sites. The crypto coin tree club is one, but it isn't something that would be of general interest. Maybe the Fit to Talk English project would be more beneficial.
Apart from forum statistical research, I'm not sure which topics receive merits for posts by Legendaries. Merits encourage posting behaviour, and it's something I consider when awarding merits.

You and me began at the same line in 2018, when merit system kicked-off, and have still stood on the same rank, Hero Member rank. We all together have slowly crawled to Legendary rank, like tortoises. Sure Theymos might make a new rank, some day.. especially as the number of merits continue to increase. I just don't get a lot of pleasure out of disparaging the ranking up that was in place under the past system, and even if someone has not earned merits under the new system would not suggest that he might not be worthy of his rank that he already earned. Anyhow in my thinking so much patting on ones own back that comes from bragging about number of merits received or suggesting self-made status, just seems unnecessary and ridiculous.. but yeah that might just be my feelings when I see such content.. but of course peeps can do what they like... I am just making a comment, and I do feel like I am being a bit petty about it, but that is just my sense of the matter and I have already argued this point in an earlier post, so I don't feel that it is necessary for me to continue to go on too much more about points that I have already made. |
