The main difference between ICO and STO is that ICO tokes are almost like cryptocurrency and STO tokens are more like "electronic" shares from stock exchange.
For me more important is idea nad team behind project than the type of platform.
I also read that STO is tokenized shares, but I have little idea how it all works at the fundraising and ICO stage, and most importantly, tokens are paid to the bounty hunters in this case or not? If so, then there will probably be different platforms, different forms of payment, in general, this is all new and again complicated and confusing. I still prefer the old ERC-20.

In my opinion, the biggest difference between STO and ICO is that investors will be protected and not lose when investing in STO.

I believe STO will do far better than ICO and so I prefer STOs to ICOs many ICO are tricky and have failed badly. They steal from people and list it's tokens below ICO prices and tell investors that it is a utility token and  the market decides the price. ICO has come with many errors which the STO will help correct

The main difference about ICO and STO is the type of the coin / tokens they released.
ICO usually creates the utility type token for their platform, it can be used by their product ecosystem later.
STO creates the security token, so the investors can get the profit share of the company.

Like most people, I think that STO projects as a whole have a future. But it seems to me that the ICO as a whole is successful in today's time. Probably now there are big projects that still collect sufficient funds for implementation.
