Instead of saying it's connected like always, it it either says it's syncronizing, or it says it's not connected, therefore I can't receive my transaction and the transaction doesn't show up. How do I fix this? I'm sure the transaction went through and finished by now, I just can't see it because electrum won't connect. There has got to be some way to fix this.  Oh, and sometimes it just says not connected.

So it either says it's synchronizing or it says it's not connected.  I tried all the tips on google, they don't work.  It's kind of a big problem because I sent a lot of bitcoin to electrum and now I can't access it.  How do I fix this?

Which version are you using?

Electrum versions older than 3.3 don't synchronize anymore. Update it to the latest version on their website: https://electrum.org/#download

Warning: Electrum versions older than 3.3 can no longer connect to public servers, and must be upgraded. This is in order to prevent user exposure to phishing messages. Do not download Electrum from any another source than electrum.org.

You should download the latest version from the link previous poster gave you.

Let us know if the problem continues.

The problem is continuing.  I downloaded the latest Electrum and still says synchronizing or disconnected.  I also tried all the tips I read on forums related to the "server" options of Electrum.  It really sucks because I already put money in there.  And since I put money in I don't think the latest Electrum would work anyway since it's a different receiving address.  Are there aren't any possible ways to fix this besides messing with the server options and getting the latest Electrum?

Also, if it stays like this forever, do you guys think if I called coinbase, that I could cancel the transaction so I don't lose so much money?  So then I could learn to use a different program similar to it?

Do you have an antivirus?
Some AV will block Electrum because of a known false-positive virus detection.
If that's the case, temporarily tun off your AV and/or make an exception for Electrum to your Firewall and AV.

Regarding the receiving address, it will always display a new address in every transaction you make.
Try displaying the addresses tab (Click "View"->"Show Addresses") and check if the first used address is there.

Also, if it stays like this forever, do you guys think if I called coinbase, that I could cancel the transaction so I don't lose so much money?  So then I could learn to use a different program similar to it?
There's no way for you or them to cancel a "confirmed" transaction, Bitcoin's transactions are irreversible.

You haven't lost any money as long as you haven't screwed-up with the backup (the 12-word SEED phrase) or downloaded a fake Electrum wallet.
All you need to do is to restore that SEED to any Electrum wallet installed to other machine/mobile if your PC was the cause of the synchronization issue.

Lastly, check on an online blockexplorer if the address(es) in the address tab have a balance by copy-pasting each address to the search box.

oh wait, it turns out I didn't get electrum 3.3.4, on the website it says it is 3.3.4 but when i install it and open it it says electrum 2.9.3, just like the last one, so that's totally dumb.  any way of solving that problem?  i'm using the installer on this page:

https://electrum.org/#download

i tried installing both the standalone executable and windows installer, and they both say electrum 2.9.3.  do i have to uninstall old electrum first or something?  do you have any ideas how to fix this?

That's definitely weird. The link that you put there should give you the latest file. So it's either you didn't install the latest version or the shortcut you use linked to the older one. Have you tried using the portable version?

Do you have Windows Friewall active or any AV that might block Electrum connection?
