What if some decided to never return? I believe some people may not be able to have access to their money again all because they are not in the country no more. What I am just trying to pinpoint is the fact that Bitcoin and other legit cryptocurrencies can offer convenience, you have nothing to be worried about. If you use a noncustododial wallet, you have the full control over your money, unlike depending on banks that are just operating in only just your country that will lead to inconveniences in such time even if you will still later find a way to access the fiat.

Nigeria’s central bank issues draft guidelines on e-naira CBDC project

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued preliminary guidelines for its proposed e-naira digital currency.

In a sensitization document sent to commercial banks in the country, the CBN outlined several design features of the central bank digital currency (CBDC). According to the document seen by Cointelegraph, Nigeria’s CBDC is codenamed “Project Giant” and will be pegged to the value of the naira. Thus, the e-naira will offer parity of value but will not be an interest-bearing currency. The e-naira will run alongside the country’s fiat currency, with the CBN responsible for issuing, distributing and redeeming the digital currency among other monitoring and management functions.

Based on the sensitization document, Nigeria’s CBDC will function under a tiered Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer (AML/KYC) structure with different transaction limits.

The bottom of the AML/KYC pyramid will reportedly encompass unbanked citizens who will be mandated to provide their national identity-linked phone numbers for verification. Users in this category will be limited to a daily transaction limit of 50,000 nairas (about $120).

Citizens with bank accounts can fall under the second and third tiers depending on the number of AML/KYC steps completed. These two levels will have daily limits of 200,000 nairas ($487) and 1 million nairas ($2,438), respectively.

Users of the third tier will likely have to complete a physical AML/KYC verification process in addition to the bank verification number requirements stipulated for tier two.

Users classified as merchants will also fall under the same 1-million-naira limit as tier three but will have no restrictions as to the amount they can send to their bank accounts.

Indeed, the CBN plans to ensure seamless transfers between e-naira wallets and bank accounts with no fees for several types of transactions. The zero-fee structure is likely a means to incentivize the adoption of the digital currency, especially amid complaints about the onerous transaction costs associated with mobile and digital banking in the country.

It is very possible to get access to your bank account from anywhere in the world via Mastered card and Visa card make we no condemn bank just because some of their customers are just stupid, these cards were implanted to solve problems like this one. Are you sure Bitcoin needs local bank to function? In my opinion, I do not think so. I get the point that Bitcoin is superior to fiat is the reason people has preferred it to be used instead of fiat, but if you travel, you can easily still be able to convert your Bitcoin to fiat in the country you travelled to, this negates the use of local (Nigerian) banks, although provide Bitcoin is not deemed illegal in the country the Nigerian travelled to, unlike China.

Even the unbanked users will provide their national identity-linked phone numbers for verification, the phone number which is linked to their NIN, national identity which is enough for verification process on any centralized platform, I still do not know how this is different from providing ID card itself.

But, I noticed I can use another person's NIN for the sim registration, example is the use of Mr A NIN to help Mr B that has no NIN (but this is very risky), which means another name is used for the sim registration and another name on the national ID card but used and it worked. I am very certain this can work, I hope scammers will not still take advantage of this method as they are very wise and people can be foolish.

Yet, this will be privacy depriving, I am hoping the blockchain will not be available to the public, or no blockchain will be used, I still do not know how e-naira will work in a way someone's data will not be available to the public after the KYC can be known and linked to the owner.

I am not sure if it is only the thread creator that can be able to pump a thread but I did not see such rule on the unofficial rules of the forum, if others can bump it and I did not do it when appropriate, it is also advisable for such member but vatetan like you, CryptopreneurBrainboss, Upgrade00, and any other Sr member rank and above that knows already how not to abuse bumping to do it.

I am also suggesting something, the the boards requested for are:

This happen to be when we were in rush than what we have actually planned ahead, it can be accurate enough, but we need to seek the opinion of others for suggestion, I have noticed we discuss more about economy, politics and society too which we need to fit into a broad board.

When I took a look at India local board, I noticed that they have only one main board which is 'India', I am thinking we can have just one main board which will be 'Nigeria', which we will be have discussion about Nigeria-crypto related discussions in which Bitcoin discussion, exchanges, crypto-economy and many others can fit in. Making others child-boards like marketplace (which will really need), Altcoin discussion and off-topic.

I am not implying this is perfect enough, but I think it is what we should discussed about. Please leave your suggestions here to know certain adjustment we can make.

About suggested boards, you also suggested good options, but I think it would depend hugely on wetin the administration think. If they one open the board without moderators then creating different child boards may be a bit much to manage, especially as other staffs no go understand pidgin English which would be accepted. In such case, a general 'everything goes' board would be preferable.

Your opinion will really be needed in this, let us all suggest the boards we want on our local board individually and we will later arrive at the same opinions which think is the best.

You have good suggestions. I checked some countries that have local board already, the name of the country and/or their official language is their main board while other boards are child-boards. But you will notice that Bitcoin discussion is embedded automatically on their main board, even if we are going to have child-boards, Bitcoin discussion will (I may not be right) not be among because bitcoin discussion will automatically be on our main board which would be 'Nigeria' or ('Pigin, English') Nigeria. That is what I am try to bring up, how did you see it?

Of course, it's nothing new and I'm not surprised, CBDC's are basically just designed to function like the issuing country's fiat currency, the only thing is that it is in a digital form, it would be controlled and printed by the government and is nothing like Bitcoin or other decentralized currencies. I think the Nigerian government is just following the bandwagon with this move, Nigeria has more pressing issues like unemployment, insecurity, lack of basic amenities and even inflation, the government should rather be trying to solve this issues and improve the state of the country and leave CBDC's for developed countries for now.
