NEW TOPIC: Why Nigeria may not adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.
I just read that news few minutes ago on punch newspaper, but one thing were i want make we understand be say the mainstream media are so lazy this day to conduct investigative journalism, all their know how to do is to make headline that will capture not minding the message the headline will send to their readers, i no see any thing serious in the news at all that can pause as a threat to Bitcoin development in Nigeria, indeed no country will ever replace it currency with an external currency most especially a decentralized currency like Bitcoin that their can not have control of so there for no body is expecting Nigeria government to adopt Bitcoin as a replacement to the naira rather what we must focus on is the regulations that will allow the accommodation of cryptocurrency as an alternative currency, and if you ask me i will say we are ok the way we are using p2p to carry out transactions i know the wider public will get to know about Bitcoin in the near future. But in the main time let us focus less mainstream media articles Bitcoin related businesses are thriving and there seem to be no problem from the government on that only the Central bank who has always been an anti Bitcoin agent right from time.

I been don read about the reason wey make dem no even wam use ear hear any tin about Bitcoin talkless of em adoption for Naija here,
Dem even dey talk for news say for dem to have an alternative unregulated currency to become a legal tender say dem go need to legitimized am by altering the Constitution. So oga dem wey dey on top feel say Bitcoin adoption for get head if to say we no dey use naira or our economy don collapse finish. De way I dey see dis adoption of Bitcoin for naija eeh e go only dey possible if a new government wey go dey in support of bitcoin enter power come do some amendment of our constitution and dem even comot that Constitutional Purview of CBN for law, e go make the ban kuku useless before dem talk of to make Bitcoin leger tender for Naija here.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

My people, I start this topic for this our thread to help motivate us to dey contribute wela here. E clear for our eyes say we dey hustle make theymos recognize us and give us our own board.

I come in Peace ✌️

Thank you very much my brother. You guys are putting in impressive efforts to keep this thread active and ongoing, and a very good example of the work ethics is this impressive appraisal post. I believe we will get there very soon and eventually get recognized and approved by Theymos and co.

But I have some little observations of my own. The last time I came here (shortly after I signed up to this forum) I was very eager to participate but one of my major draw back was excessive amount of political discourse going on here. Some of us would appreciate if we could leave the toxic politics for the people of the world and focus more on Crypto related issues as it relates to us the Naija people. I know you guys are trying already and by God's willing, we'll keep getting better and better until we attain the promise land. I just think we need to do more in this regard.

#My suggestion is, can we cut down on political and other non crypto matters and focus more on cryptocurrency talks, while adding bits of Naija politics once in a while?

Another one is lack of streamlining of topics. It seems though as if everyone is more interested in starting a topic rather than participating in the ongoing discussions.

#My suggestion is, can the Mod somehow, find a way to streamline topics? Something like choosing topics of the day? Once that is chosen, every member should refrain from starting many more fresh topic and instead, join in the ongoing discuss and follow it to the logical conclusions?

These are just my little observations and it's by no means conclusive. Perhaps something like these has been discussed in the past as the thread is just too long to be covered in one sitting. If that is the case, please do pardon my ignorance.

I have been more active at the Gambling section but from now on, I hope to be here 24/7 to enjoy and discuss with my brothers and sisters.

Thanks

I think this is a good suggestion. In addition to this, i feel it would be great if we can have a topic per week, gives every locals enough chances to contribute their own quota to the topics.  Couple of topics to pick from as a naija guy, from economics, to politics, to sports, the internal struggles etc.

If una ask me I believe everything Dey fine and the topics wey dey come in Dey of good proportion and it Dey give people the opportunity to up this of interest, personally I no go consider say to many topics are being brought up here, I like the leave it is, and we need here to be more active so dropping topics per week what if we have a serious topic of interest that is not inline with the pinned topic for the week it doesn’t mean we wouldn’t contribute. Also I must personally thank everyone for the show of maturity, intelligence dedication and commitment towards the growth of this thread and as for me so far so good, we are on the right track.

Oga Mpa, you make sense. I don see that username 'naira', I look am finish say na Naija be that, e no fit be coincidence. I know say if our local board lap main main, men go fall out to meet us here.

Thank you very much my brother. You guys are putting in impressive efforts to keep this thread active and ongoing, and a very good example of the work ethics is this impressive appraisal post. I believe we will get there very soon and eventually get recognized and approved by Theymos and co.
Thank you my brother for falling back to base with your people. E better make we dey together here dey manage till our own board go finally show.

#My suggestion is, can we cut down on political and other non crypto matters and focus more on cryptocurrency talks, while adding bits of Naija politics once in a while?

Na nice observation be this brother. But e get wetin happen. E get wetin dem dey call contemporary topic (National topic wey dey everybody for mouth). For Nigeria now, na primary elections and campaigns dey reign and we no fit discuss without talking about wetin dey affect our country. Even larger forum understand this and that is why dem get politics board. E beta as we dey talk am here. If we stop politics here, e go shock you how person go enter forum politics board go raise topic like "Atiku is a corrupt presidential aspirant", then our imge go dent the more.

I believe say after election, politics matter go slow down for here.

#My suggestion is, can the Mod somehow, find a way to streamline topics? Something like choosing topics of the day? Once that is chosen, every member should refrain from starting many more fresh topic and instead, join in the ongoing discuss and follow it to the logical conclusions?
Na nice observation be that, we dey see how important topics no dey hard bury for here. No be any body fault shaa. If board come e no go dey like that.
As BIT-BENDER don already chuck mouth, make I throw more light. This forum believe in freedom. Even for main forum too much moderation no dey. So, if we bring that kind moderation idea, some people go mute and here go dey scanty.  E no go make sense say if I no like topic, I no go talk till another one I like come on board. Even the moderator sef no go get that kind time

I have been more active at the Gambling section but from now on, I hope to be here 24/7 to enjoy and discuss with my brothers and sisters.

Thanks
I dey see you for gambling true true, welcome back home my brother.

NEW TOPIC: Why Nigeria may not adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.

As usual, I dey normally search for Bitcoin related news every now and then just to stay updated Incase any new development dun dey for the country. Today research make we see this news article and after reading am, I just gaz share am make we discuss. This thing wey we all want fit no come to pass oh, as day they go by I dey understand say e go hard for Nigeria to accept Bitcoin as as legal tender. I understand say constitution gaz change and na one thing wey dey hard is to do be dat. Abeg make una go through and give feedback, wetin you think and you go dey satisfied if Nigeria accept Bitcoin as a means of exchange but not a legal tender?.

Given the government body language regarding the use of cryptocurrency generally, I don't think we are ever going to adopt Bitcoin as a legal tender. However, i do reason with the government on full adoption of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrencies are decentralised based on blockchain technology, and central banks do not issue them. They are unregulated, speculative and volatile, as prices can nosedive within the shortest possible time crippling the whole economic activities of the nation

Moreover, they can be used to launder funds, and carry out illegal transactions, which is why it has also been banned in so many other countries like China

I understand say constitution gaz change and na one thing wey dey hard is to do be dat. Abeg make una go through and give feedback, wetin you think and you go dey satisfied if Nigeria accept Bitcoin as a means of exchange but not a legal tender?.

However, experts believe that nations have to be cautious regarding the adoption of BTC and other forms of crypto as legal tender. They stated that BTC wasn’t designed to become a legal tender.

According to them, Nigeria might someday consider BTC as a form of payment, but it would never replace the Naira. They added that using it as Naira would contravene the constitutional purview of the CBN.

They further stated that the nations that had accepted or thinking of accepting crypto as a form of payment were those on the brink of economic collapse and Nigeria wasn’t necessarily one.

My broda I don read am like this and my head full, plenty thing wey hold we country back and I believe say those old men wey seat down for that place no go even give us space to accept bitcoin as legal tender, though whether CBN or FG only I thin I see there be say we don dey already use am as a means of payment and me really dey comfortable with that so if CBN like make them no lift their ban. P2p still working perfectly, thank God say your service still dey available and strong, reliable and trusted with 100 percent. Them know say from there country will develop but them wan short down every angle to carry lift our country from economic crisis and them wan remain at the top to control the country but I believe say e no go work for them as boys don shine eyes 👀 pass them, If not as them limit people from bank transaction with cryptocurrency by now we for don finished.

So in Summary it can only be used as a means of payment but not legal tender.

They further stated that the nations that had accepted or thinking of accepting crypto as a form of payment were those on the brink of economic collapse and Nigeria wasn’t necessarily one.

If the president and the judiciary arm of government want to make bitcoin a legal tender, then CBN is nothing to decide that, CBN has no option than to follow, but the arms of government are not showing any green light towards that which makes bitcoin as a legal tender in Nigeria to be likely not possible.

What matters most is not for bitcoin to become a legal tender in my opinion, but for the government to be friendly with bitcoin and make it legally acceptable which is what that matters.

Also in the research, 71% of bitcoin sales are mostly converted to dollar, 17% stored as dollar on Chivo wallet while 10% stored as bitcoin.

Even most of the bitcoin payment in El Salvador are converted to fiat, bitcoin is an investment to most people and would most likely not replace naira but just for investment but the CBN will be affraid about this.

But even if Nigeria government is friendly with bitcoin, that is even enough for adoption.

According to them, Nigeria might someday consider BTC as a form of payment, but it would never replace the Naira. They added that using it as Naira would contravene the constitutional purview of the CBN.
I do not really get their point here bro, if we (Nigeria) are ever going to make Bitcoin a legal tender here, it doesn't mean that it is then going to replace the Naira. Take eye look the two countries wey don make Bitcoin Legal tender, e no mean say bitcoin come turn to their number one currency na, or say e replace their fiat currency, na alternative wey bitcoin still be, just that the government come make am Legally acceptable for their country. All this one be like excuse for my eye oh, abi them no really understand wetin them they talk. Bitcoin is never going to replace the fiat currency of any country, the naira inclusive. What do they even mean by "using it as naira...", It can't be used as naira in the first place, they are two different types of currency, one physical and issued by the central government, the other, Bitcoin isn't physical, is decentralized, and issued by no central authority but the proof-of-work algorithm (mining), so they definitely can't be used alike.

El Salvador has proven that bitcoin can be used as a legal tender, people have bitcoin as an investment, but some also use it for making payment in the process of investing. But in my opinion, I see no reason bitcoin should be made a legal tender if it is adopted in a country, definitely you can as well use it for paying and as investment.

There’s news buzzing on social media about genocide in St Francis Xavier church in Ondo State. I won’t share the images here because they are horrific. I’m sure by now many of us would have seen the pictures on the internet, men and women, children shot dead in a church. Their bodies mutilated by bullets, what a terrible way to die. So far, the information about who are the perpetrators of this hideous crime is not solid, it’s been two hours since I read about this unfortunate event yet the police have not sealed the area as a crime scene.

Who is the “they”? They dubbed different names Unknown gunmen, insurgents, herdsmen, Bandits, Boko Haram, every five months one new name comes up..
we can’t tell which is which anymore. No government has not released an official statement or addressed the public to at least show they are with us. The presidency as usually will act as if nothing happened and hope we forget. I saw the picture of the beautiful young couple too, may their souls rest in peace.

Yes I saw the news this afternoon, the pictures made me cry because these innocent people were attacked by unknown arm men inside the church, according to the news the parish priest said they were locked for good 2 hours yet the police could not get the information of the attack, is it that there is no nearby police station in OWO ONDO State where this attack was carried out? It is a black Sunday to the people of owo and Nigeria at large.

ChannelTv reports it was a bomb, from the videos and pictures on the internet I don’t think a bomb would have done that. I’m afraid we will never get the real story in this country news is filtered day by day. Na only God go fit help us for this kontri person no go fit sleep with him two eye close because of fear.
Quote
An eyewitness Ogueze Victor told Channels Television that the assailants were throwing “bombs and shooting” at the same time. He said about 25 persons were taken to the hospital while about 100 people are feared dead.
