I think the idea to pay your expenses with gambling overcomes the fear of not being able to pay for your daily stuff because of gambling. When you say daily expenses then obviously not. Those who you said that are very good in making profits in gambling aren't doing so on a daily basis. They may have been making money from bigtime tournaments where they also get paid by sponsors. Yes it is indeed impossible, even though there are people who can make good profits from gambling, but the resulting profits are more exactly an additional income that will make their wallets thicker. If you realize it, the income from gambling are usually most of them will only be used to spree and not to finance their lives every day. As usual to happen that we loss a lot than of winning but it doesn't really matter if we are just enjoying the moment and not just looking to win.
You can surely be having money if you are working in casino but if you are just a player, I don't think so. It have less chances to make it but of course, not all the time we are losing and it sometimes we luck and win, that is how it roll in gambling.

That’s not true. My younger brother lost his job earlier last year and he was really devastated.
