Error when executing Electrum

I'm periodically receiving the following error whenever I execute Electrum:



It's not happening all the time for some reason. I can simply close and ignore it and just type my password to go to the wallet, but I still want to know what is it about?

By searching of this error I found that some users reported same thing in 2017. The reasons it occurs is mostly because of outdated Electrum version or OS which is missing some file required for the proper functioning of Electrum.

Users of Windows 7 need to install KB2999226 Windows update, some report that they solve this error after update. There is also report that corupted wallet file can also cause such error, and that problem can be in Pyinstaller.

If none of the above does help, it would probably be wise to make clean install by deleting Electrum folder with all files, and restore wallet with seed.

With me it occurs sometimes if i have some python scripts running. If you have scripts running stop them and try again.

It's normal. I'm not sure why it is but it's normal. Probably incompatibility with the os but as I can send stuff and do everything I want with the wallet I have no concern for the error.

If you have the latest updates from the mothership aka microsoft and this is still happening perhaps you should create an issue about it on github so that developers can look into it?

I have old experienced to old version of electrum before but different error it something like "failed to execute electrum" not exactly as the image above but I think they are the same what I did to fix this issue is to update the windows 7 with KB2999226 but before I update it I uninstall the electrum through IObit Uninstaller to make sure all registry and traces are removed and install the latest version of Electrum.

Until now I haven't experienced any issue yet in Windows 7 with Electrum. So I suggest to OP to uninstall the Electrum using IObit uninstaller to removed all traces and Electrum registry records before he update the Windows 7 to KB2999226(update).

I'm using Windows 10 and not 7 and at the time of the error, I did have updates waiting to be installed from Windows. After rebooting the computer and having the updates installed, the error is no longer showing.

Just like what happened to me 2 months ago when electrum do have that executing error and one thing comes to my mind that this might cause by outdated windows not on Electrum itself.I did the same thing as yours and the issue had been resolved.

My other pc do have some clone OS and do still have the same error and i do end up on buying another License of windows 10 just to make some updates.lol

Today I have encountered the very same problem and thus googled for the error-message.

One of the first results popping up was that thread which also held the solution (for me), which simply was the very latest update of Windows (using Win7).

After installing the (important) update (Security Intelligence Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB.......) (<1 MB) and restart Electrum is running again
