It was said he passed away, and than maybe a year? later the funds for the forum where moved. I don't see any threads and I tried to google search it via site:bitcointalk.org but don't know enough keywords to find anything. I should have just book marked the thread.

I think you should add more information about who stole what. Stole from who, from an exchange? from the forum? from theymos? from satoshi?

(I do know anything about this, so more info you put the better it is)

I think theymos posted the thread because he offered a reward if the btc was recovered. I don't remember

I am speaking about the bitcointalk fourm treasurers. Who stole the funds from the fourm.

I don't think the treasurer stole the funds, he died with the funds in his wallet and then a couple years later the funds or some of the funds were moved. The thread was posted by theymos and he offered 25% of whatever was recovered to whoever could recover it

Anyone know why Theymos didn't think it a good idea to use multisig with the treasurers? This probably means he didn't care too much about the funds that were stolen (especially since there was a 25% reward)... Potentially Theymos just moved on from this so...

I think there was another thread on him to as details of his identity were published briefly by a user here about 3 or 4 years ago. The information was since deleted.

It was brought up in the old thread, but I haven't seen talk about it in recent time. You got to wait for master to answer.

The forum should move the existing funds that are held by single users into multi-sig ASAP. I know folks like OgNasty are reliable, but shit happens and people die every day.

Multi sig wasn’t as prevalent as it is now, real question is why there is still a single point of failure for forum funds in 2019

This incident has been a long time, until now it has not been solved.
Many want to solve it but have not succeeded.
This is more complete information.

Treasurers

Looking for people to store some of the forum's money

Forum Treasures Public Addresses for Transparency

Parapian's BTC address holding BCT money?

Forum 250 Btc theft, what's being done about it? Inside job?

Paraipan a treasurer for the forum holding 250 btc allegedly died in April of 2014 since then the account has logged in multiple times which is fairly suspicious. What is being done to recover the 250 Bitcoins because this is starting to look like a scam and it could be an inside job. The management of this forum is getting sketchier and sketchier and with things getting worse I am feeling like I will have to start cleaning things up around here. Pair this scam with the complete mismanagement of the new forum software, the forums donations have been drained by incompetence and thievery.

No, several people looked into it, but nobody was able to make contact with anyone who knew anything about what he did with the BTC or who might've stolen it after his death. The 25% reward still stands on any returned amount.

It looks like the funds ended up at bitstamp.

Contact bitstmp and find out who the owner of the account who has a deposit address of 3GEnQ7ChhGoPCcBn2CRJexNcgK7FMaBGTr is. This is likely the person who has access to the 250BTC that paraipan was holding for the forum, and likely a heir to the estate of paraipan.

The above address received BTC from 1K3CxWrq91rByL9PjV9wccfhyuToF2WNRX and 1G6Pvh2713qT3pwDAXZwi77KRscR3wKcXp in 2015.

1G6Pvh2713qT3pwDAXZwi77KRscR3wKcXp received .5BTC from 1F1s6gdLNT8YP4eqrwwsyfxfF5gaCJ9nAP earlier this year.

1F1s6gdLNT8YP4eqrwwsyfxfF5gaCJ9nAP received 0.9999BTC from 16bzFLrJpw3BMJWxJiivEwbPaPXQuQjVGh the same day as the above transaction.

16bzFLrJpw3BMJWxJiivEwbPaPXQuQjVGh received BTC in 2012 AND 100BTC that can reasonably be traced back to the 250BTC paraipan was holding by looking back just 3 transactions to find the address that paraipan held the forum's BTC in.

Bitstamp will likely ask for a court order to release the identity of that account holder, and I don't think most courts will issue such an order to anyone except to either you or law enforcement who is investigating the theft of the above BTC.

Who knows if someone bought his computer equipment (perhaps at an estate sale), or if this was the family moving funds, perhaps not knowing the money belongs to someone else.

Has anyone contacted Bitstamp about the missing coins?

This is always my issue with exploring into this sort of thing.
Who knows if the original owner even has the coins, most chains have been tainted and even selling the private keys was sometimes done in the past...

I remember nottingham university in the UK had a professor bring out something that blacklisted addresses where "dark funds" ended up (stuff stolen or related to illegal activites) and there is always some dubiousness as most people try to use anonymising services in this space (usually for normal reasons, who wants to advertise how much money they actually have)?

So 25% from that stolen BTC huh, the culprit is very difficult to find and with the existent of Bitcoin Mixer the mission to locate that guy is almost impposible. I wonder who got his Private Key after he died, his Wife? and maybe the people who is close to him might have some hints.

I think bitstamp probably knows who had the coins as they appear to have been deposited into their exchange.

If someone can figure out the owner of the bitstamp account, the owner can at least be asked questions about the coins.

If the coins were moved on behalf of paraipans estate, I think it is probably too late to try to recover the money as there are time limits on how long creditors have to file claims against an estate, although the lack of service may affect these limits — an estate lawyer can provide more specific advice on the matter.

I doubt the owner would give any form of information without some form of legal request.

I can't think of a valid reason not to switch to multi-sig asap. Paraipan has already proven what can happen without it.

Has his death be confirmed? You know on 2014 Bitcoin reached 1k value after the pump and 250 bitcoin were 250k usd, if he death has be confirmed somewhere than RIP.

An interesting fact the account vite who announced the peraipan's death here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583286.0 seems to be now a hacked or sold account http://archive.fo/MTfeg , looking at his post history. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=49941;sa=showPosts;start=0

This case is very interesting, spent some hours on it and I found something very very interesting, I will dig more tomorrow. Bed time now.

Edit: before posting here if I can confirm what I found I will send a message to Theymos so do not except till I can confirm what I found.

After 3 days of researches.

I've found a private key of Paraipan but the address is empty, I found a lot of interesting things but this may seem offensive for somebody, so I don't really know if I should post them or not.

For the private key, I will never share it publicly, if theymos wants it I will send it by pm only to him. (the key is for a very low-value address and I do not think it will be used ever again)

How did you find his private key?
