sending bitcoin to desktop wallet

I purchased bitcoins from localbitcoin. I received the bitcoins and they are in the localbitcoin wallet. I want to send these bc to my desktop wallet. I ve tried electrum and wabasi wallets but localbitcoins error message is invalid address. I also checked this on cointool address verification and als was invalid address Any help getting these bc from lbc to my desktop is appreciated

Try generating a legacy address. Sometimes some vendor do not allow segwit address. I hope this is the case for you too.

By the way, which desktop wallet you have installed. Electrum?

Localbitcoins.com will not send to a segwit address that starts with bc1 (bech32.)

You can create a legacy wallet in Electrum (not segwit,) and you'll be able to send to that address.  From there you can send the funds again to your segwit wallet.  I've never used Wasabi wallet, but I imagine it has an option to do the same.

You can also create a Segwit address that starts with "3", which are supported everywhere and offer lower fees.

1. Go to iancoleman's BIP39 seed generator[1] (optional - download the source code and run offline for better security);
2. Select 12 words and generate a new seed;
3. SAVE THIS SEED AND DON'T LOSE IT! You can't see it again in Electrum and without the seed you can't restore your wallet in the future;
4. Download Electrum;
5. While creating the wallet, select: Standard Wallet -> I already have a seed -> Paste the seed from step 2.
6. Click Options -> check "BIP39 seed" -> Next.
7. In the Derivation part, paste m/49'/0'/0'/0 and click next.
8. Now you have an Segwit wallet with addresses starting with 3.

Thank you guys  I am very new to this and not computer savy  at all Could you give me directions on creating a legacy address or a source I could refer to Electrum was the first wallet I tried but the address did start with bc1

See my post above to create a Segwit address that works everywhere.

Or, just create a new wallet but select "Legacy" this time - instead of Segwit.

Here's an easy to follow steps for the instructions above:

• A. Go to the link provided: https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

[1] Select the number of words to generate, usually, people prefer "12".
[2] Click Generate.
[3] Copy this to a piece of paper (This will be your backup in case your wallet got deleted or corrupted)

• B. Follow the next steps, it's self explanatory.
• C. For Step 7 and newer Electrum versions, follow this instead:

It will automatically adjust the derivation path depending on your selection.

Before you send your bitcoins to Electrum please double check if you downloaded your Electrum wallet from the official site. Check your browser history for that! Is this the site where you downloaded it from https://electrum.org/#download and is the version 3.3.4?
That is the only site you should use for Electrum downloads and it is also recommended to verify the signature of your app.

Many new users have lost their bitcoins after downloading fake Electrum wallets of clicking on phishing links and that's why I am asking. Be careful.

Thanks for your help so far. I have downloaded electrum wallet(from legit site)already so I don't know how to get into the pages to change address ie script type and derivation path. when I try to download 2nd wallet it aborts instillation

1. Open Electrum with your existing wallet
2. Click File - New/Restore
3. Give your wallet a name and click Next
4. Select standard wallet
5. Create new seed
6. Select Legacy on the next screen
7. Now backup and confirm your seed (Do NOT forget to back it up)
8. Give your wallet a password

Now you should have a Legacy wallet with addresses starting with "1", you can send your bitcoins from localbitcoins to those addresses.

Thank everybody it looks like this worked bc sent to my electrum wallet unconfirmed correct bal. I guess it takes a little while before it is actually confirmed
