Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

Have a read of this: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/issues/3198

Essentially, due to Electrum's use of PyInstaller... several antivirus products seem to keep flagging it as "malware", due to "false positives". Roll Eyes Undecided

Other users have had the same issue with ESET and Electrum: https://www.reddit.com/r/Electrum/comments/b6rewd/electrum_334_virus_detected_by_eset_internet/

If the installer that you downloaded was from electrum.org AND you have successfully managed to check the digital signatures, the chances of it being infected with malware a pretty much non-existant. Does ESET provide a way to exclude certain directories from scanning (or maybe that "Ignore" option)? If so, you could use that to prevent it constantly flagging this incorrectly... or perhaps contact ESET and tell them to fix their scanner? Tongue

Yes, first-time show the problem this morning so re-download electrum.org but facing the same problem.

I download this aplication.

So you suggest that when showing message this display I click "Ignore" option? I just want to that it is harmful for me?

Yes, ignore the warning and make an exeption for Electrum.
I had to do the same thing, it is a false positive.

Note: make sure you download Electrum only from ELECTRUM.ORG and nowhere else!!

If you're too worried about that detection, do not.

First of all, "Python/Coinminer.B" is generally a malware that remotely mine using your resources, not a tool to get sensitive information.
Secondly, Electrum doesn't have that PUA, it just a "similar" signature that your AV have detected from the executable.
AKA, false positive.

If you want to see more detection inconsistencies, go to Virustotal and upload that file and you'll see various Antivirus heuristics (Mostly non-famous AVs) detection to the file and it differs from "Malicious", "TrojanHorse" and "CoinMiner".
Famous Antivirus however, resulted with negative results.

- Ignore this message & in the future add electrum to the anti virus' white list.

- The most important next step is to learn how to verify before installation:-

This false positive this is sometimes happening to me when I use Eset AV that is why I switched to Kaspersky and the exe file will automatically be deleted if detects it as malware or something suspicious.

What I did is to exlude the file from scanning you can find it on settings.

Check this guide from here Exclude files or folders from scanning in ESET Windows

Note: Don't forget to verify the signature first before you install the Electrum the guide already posted by moha sasa above.

1. Check the signature to ensure that the downloaded version is authentic. Tutorial: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-verify-your-electrum-download/

2. Hit ignore

You do not need to trust your anti-virus in this case.

It is nothing to worry about, just like all the other users said it is a false positive. If you scroll all the way down on the download page on Electrum you will see that they even posted a warning that their software is flagged by various anti-virus companies.

Quote
Notes for Windows users
Electrum binaries are often flagged by various anti-virus software. There is nothing we can do about it, so please stop reporting that to us. Anti-virus software uses heuristics in order to determine if a program is malware, and that often results in false positives. If you trust the developers of the project, you can verify the GPG signature of Electrum binaries, and safely ignore any anti-virus warnings. If you do not trust the developers of the project, you should build the binaries yourself, or run the software from source. Finally, if you are really concerned about malware, you should not use an operating system that relies on anti-virus software.

Old versions of Windows might need to install the KB2999226 Windows update.

don't just hit ignore, it will come back again every time your ESET Internet Security updates and does a scan of your hard disks (i had the same problem too, it is the recent update in ESET AV that added this to potentially unwanted applications). just click the Advanced options at the bottom right corner of the error message and select the checkbox indicating exclusion of the file from being scanned and then hit Ignore button.
of course as others said you must verify the signature of Electrum.exe that you have installed. then it is a matter of deciding whether you trust Electrum developers or not.
