filecoin might be the holy grail of ASIC resistance. - will this gain/bring value? we will see.
It's a lot harder for me to justify building something to mine this though. You're talking multiple thousands in hardware for a single unit.

not really multiple, more like 1000 - 2000$ ...for a rig, existing miners already have gpu, cpu(randomx miner's already have this), psu.

expenses will be, 128gb kits, nvme, satas and hdds and frame/case. expenses are like just buying  an extra 1 to 2 nvidia 2080 cards for existing miners.

some boards can support 32gb x 4 = 128gb, non threadripper boards can pull it off BTW, hence cheaper cpu and motherboard for the PC.

literally 1 cpu 1 vote no?... more like 1PC 1 vote LOL

that's why i said earlier up post that ryzen randomX rigs might do a little upgrade to pull it off. that's why we are here in crypto BTW we are gambling with time and money  Wink

I spent 235 to upgrade the threadripper build  from 64 to 128gb

I have 3 ryzen 9 3900x builds I would need to buy 4x 32gb sticks of ram thats = too much money

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-ValueRAM-KVR24R17D4K4-128/dp/B01FM3GJ9A/ref=sr_1_19?

419 a kit

https://www.newegg.com/corsair-128gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820236609?

589 a kit

and this one

https://www.ebay.com/itm/CORSAIR-Vengeance-LPX-128GB-4-x-32GB-288-Pin-DDR4-SDRAM-DDR4-2400-PC4-19200/293188987765?

559

I am Not spending this much. To upgrade a rig.

It means all the ram in the rig usually 2x 16gb is going to waste..

And 559 an up grade x 3 = 1700+ with the tax.

I will see how the upgrade on the threadripper goes

Who knows.  I do like to support monero because the developers do fight asics.

I run

3x  3900x
1x  2700x
1x  3700x

1x threadripper.

and I am going to build

1x  3800x

7 rigs   use about  2600 watts or 63 kwatts a day  just under 2000 kwatts a month  which in the winter for me is 200 dollars in power.  I need earn 7 dollars daily to make 10 bucks back  which is a really long roi.

But I have lots of parts.  and some of my x370 boards were upgraded to run amd 3000 series.

those 7 rigs cost me well under 7k  and  had earned better money in 2018.

Do I advise anyone to build a lot of these  no.

Do I advise anyone to build 1 if they have a good power spot no they should build 2.

I have a lot of gear running on good power deals.  50-50 coin splits  these deals always earn ½ the coins mined.

They allow me to fuck around and run the 7 units in the house at next to break even.

No one should be doing what I do in just my house with 10 cent power.

If you are at 6 cents  these builds should turn profit.

I have 6 cent power 100 amp 240 line and still can't find anything exciting to build or buy.  I want to buy a btc asic but with the having I'm not sure its a good idea.  I keep running my 120 gpus and most are 3 years old waiting for a good opportunity.  I do have 12 5700s that are doing very well but with the NVIDIA 3000 series this year I'm not too hot on buying anymore gpus.  i've been buying BTC instead.

I think the success or failure of Filecoin will ultimately be where it gets listed. If a large exchange like Binance or Bitfinex lists it then I can see it being very profitable. However currently most of the volume is on one exchange Bitforex and volume only $20million daily.

It also looks like this is only a futures at the moment. So when the real supply actually hits the exchange the price can easily shift one way or another. Remember what happened to Bitcoin Diamond price after Binance enabled deposits? It tanked instantly.

Right now, my eyes are just on BTC. This 10k breakout is going to be big for all those who are holding bitcoin with extreme patience. XRP is a joke my friend I'm not going to waste my money on it.

Its funny you mention XRP, the CEO of Bitmex (largest derivates platform for Bitcoin) just tweeted

https://twitter.com/CryptoHayes/status/1224533876355153920

Quote
Is it called Ripple, XRP, or dogshit? Who knows, who cares. It’s worth more than zero so it’s time to trade the USD pair on BitMEX. Boo-Yaka-sha!

And remember what happened when Bitmex launched ETHUSD perps? Went straight downhill from there. I think it was $500 or so and haven't touched that figure. So most likely XRP will follow the same path, as long as it gets the same liquidity as ETH.

So yesterday I found out that my coins in two projects were stolen in barely announced "chain swaps." The one (COSS) did not automatically convert my tokens into their new format for "legal" reasons (even though they had my tokens in their exchange wallet) and now supposedly will refuse all other swaps (how convenient, they get to keep my money!)

The other, Innova, is a total shit coin and I'm not terribly surprised, from searching I found a single tweet and post on here, and that was it.

Crypto is such a joke, I have no idea why I haven't launched my own coin and done the same..

filecoin might be the holy grail of ASIC resistance. - will this gain/bring value? we will see.
It's a lot harder for me to justify building something to mine this though. You're talking multiple thousands in hardware for a single unit.

not really multiple, more like 1000 - 2000$ ...for a rig, existing miners already have gpu, cpu(randomx miner's already have this), psu.

expenses will be, 128gb kits, nvme, satas and hdds and frame/case. expenses are like just buying  an extra 1 to 2 nvidia 2080 cards for existing miners.

some boards can support 32gb x 4 = 128gb, non threadripper boards can pull it off BTW, hence cheaper cpu and motherboard for the PC.

literally 1 cpu 1 vote no?... more like 1PC 1 vote LOL

that's why i said earlier up post that ryzen randomX rigs might do a little upgrade to pull it off. that's why we are here in crypto BTW we are gambling with time and money  Wink
i havent been following filecoin recently, whats the ETA on it launching? been waiting.. forever.. lol

Lets build a few of these rigs  and mine the shit out of file coin Grin

Not!

amd threadripper 3990x   = 256 cache up to 128 treads

cost $$$

https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-threadripper-3990x/p/N82E16819113620?

yeah $3989 usd

boards for it are about 450 and up

https://www.newegg.com/asus-prime-trx40-pro/p/N82E16813119219

cooler 75
https://www.newegg.com/cooler-master-masterliquid-ml240l-rgb-liquid-cooling-system/p/2YM-0004-00015?

ram and case and ssd  and psu =

at least 400 more

so just under 5k  without a graphics card.  Damn this is pricey.

6k to 7k

hehe philipma1957 can do it under 1000$ because of existing hardware "on hand".

some of my boards are circa ~2006 with 1080ti's...i'm the one who needs an upgrade lol

I could do it for 4k vs 6k.

nvme m.2 top of the line..  check got that cost $0
8 sticks of 16gb ram....      check got that cost $0
good case ..................      check got that cost $0
1500 watt titanium psu .... check got that cost $0
2x 120mm water cooler ... check got that cost $0

mobo would cost me 400-500
cpu    would cost me 3980  damn that is pricey

gpu I toss in a gtx 1660 as it would mine randomx and I don't care about  the gpu.

I guess this would do 50,000 hash   if it does randomx   the cache is 256  cores/threads are 64/128

my 3900x does 11,000 hash at randomx  the cache is 64  cores/thread 12/24

the thing is  50,000 hash is only 5 bucks a day so most likely I won't buy it.

profit is rising  Cheesy if this sustains, if this is the start of a new bull run you all can buy your mining gears again..no worries lol

5$ a day...nope! how about 20$ a day? hmmm...then everybody buys again......miners are waiting for confirmation of bull market  Grin
