Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

You post is a little bit confusing due to words missing??

Anyway, if in case you have her Ledger Nano try finding the carton box of the device. Mostly, people tend to leave the recovery sheet there. Or if it's not there. Try finding it in her room or somewhere you think she keeps it.

One problem if you are a holder and you don't trust anyone but yourself.

if you have the pin, you can still open it, and send the coins.
worst case, as long as you have the recovery seeds, you can recover the wallets.

They can only access the funds if:

1. They found your "aunt's daughter"'s recovery seed backup.
2. They know the pin used on the Ledger device.

Beyond that? Probably next to impossible.

What do you need your post is confusing .
You should watch some YT for tutorial on how to use it so you wouldn't get confused and wouldn't lose the Bitcoin.
You should just know her pin to access the ledger or since you have the bill try finding the paper where she wrote the pass phrase .
And please don't do anything stupid like posting it on social media because the wallet could be hacked and you wouldn't use anything from it.

In my guess, this is easier to solve because some information must be there somewhere. They just need some guide on what to look and how to use the information they can find. And yes, watching some YouTube can help. I advise them never to trust anybody outside as we don't know if one can be tempted to do something unfortunate. I am wondering if Ledger Nano has a hotlink or customer support for a matter like this, anyone?

What a strange choice for a username -- Hack4love? Are you sure your aunt's daughter died or are you a new hacker trying to "hack" someone stolen hardware wallet?

What hardware wallet are you dealing with here? Most hardware wallet provides you with a piece of paper, where you can write down the seed, when you configure the wallet for the first time. You need to get that seed to enable you to get to those coins or the password of the hardware wallet that she used to access the device.  Wink

Hope we are helping someone with a legitimate problem and not a hacker that are doing this for his own gain.  Tongue

I am not sure whether this is a genuine post or not. The options will be as follows:

1. In case you know the pin or the recovery seed, then just recover the wallets and transfer the coins
2. If the PIN is not known and you are unable to recover the seed, then you can try certain combinations, such as the year of birth of your sister, or the year of birth of the children. Try the "saved passwords" section in Google Chrome and you may find some clues
3. If none of this is possible, then hire help from professionals. They may ask for anywhere from 10% to 50%.

In case you are considering about #3, then you can contact this guy:

Do you having the access to her wallet or no ?
Tell them their mom have a lot of inheritance, sell all the btc and give them the cash
And if you're lucky enough they will give you some of the sell result

this would be a horrible idea.. if OP lives in USA he/she would be responsible for taxes on someone elses money.

if OP knows nothing about bitcoin, how did they help her buy them? it makes no sense.

to the OP. if all you have is the receipt for the purchase of the nano and not the nano itself, or the pass phrase the bitcoins are lost.

you cant just call the company and have them returned to you, bitcoin doesnt work like that.

also anything you do financially should be going through the probate of the estate of the deceased. 13 btc is probably enough where you might have to go through a lawyer.

If you are still able to open the account then you can educate her 2 kids and try to convince them on using bitcoin or atleast help them get the money from it.If they dont want to use it then help them cashout if they want to use it help them transfer the bitcoin into their account so they can get a hold of whats left
Are you reading the thread?or just the title?

OP is looking for advices and help on what todo since the wallet has the Bitcoin but they cannot open the Nano wallet so that’s the problem to be solved

You know nothing again BTC, but I just curious where did you know that your aunt has bitcoin and you know the exact amount?
What confuses me is he know nothing about bitcoin but he “Help the owner buy the coins”and he knows nothing about bitcoin but He’s account has a lot of post about crypto ..kinda strange lol

You are advising him to the wallet and forgetting that there should be a last will that will give them the right to do so and share the coins. None of you have the right to use her bitcoins just like that. There are procedures for everything and if the children are underage their legal guardian should manage the wallet.

When you get the legal documents you can message the manufacturer and ask them if they are able to tap into the wallet somehow and recover the coins for a fee.

Whatever you do, you should have a professional guide you through the different steps involved.

First, if you just hit random pin code tries as some people suggested, you will be locked out from the Ledger as it has built in security, after a few wrong tries the time for you to be allowed to enter the pin again with increase exponentially.

Second, the moment you sell and move the funds, (we are talking over around 100k) you would need to know that you have to pay tax in your jurisdiction, depending on the time of purchase and location of your jurisdiction. Knowing that you should be aware that in some cases the tax could be up to 40% of profit made.

Finally, there are several ways to access the funds from the ledger, and whatever you do, dont use any online services, as you can be scammed or fooled to enter information that later can be used to extract and steal the funds.

You should download the official ledger connect software from https://www.ledger.com/ that will help you access the funds. The only way to access it is if you have the pin.

If you dont have the pin, but instead a 12 or 24 word list, you can use that on many different wallets, of which one is Electrum. You can download it from http://electrum.org/#download

In order to "cash" out the funds, you should setup an account on a exchange, depending on your jurisdiction coinbase (US), bitstamp (EU) or binance (Asia).

Also, the ledger could hold funds that doesnt always show up in the software, you would need to use tools like etherscan.io or blockchain.com to see if it holds other coins like Bitcoin Cash or airdrops.

good luck and dont get scammed

Although it is not clear here what OP have or not have, in case they can find 24 seed words, only correct way to accces that wallet is to enter wrong PIN three times in a row, and Nano S will be reseted to factory settings. All this is necessary only if the correct PIN can not be found. This is in this or that way connected to hardware wallet, so there is no need to make confusion with any other wallet.

In any case, the deceased person is probably make some backups, it may take time for something like that to be found.

Trezor has the exponential time delay, not Ledger. With a Ledger, after 3 incorrect PIN attempts, the device actually wipes itself.

To recover coins from the Ledger Nano S, you need either:
1. The device AND the PIN number. Having the physical device without knowledge of the PIN is effectively useless.
or
2. The 24 word seed mnemonic

My advice would be to search the laptop and all of the Aunts physical papers/documents for the 24 word seed mnemonic. Hopefully she used the official recovery card that looks like this:

That will make it easier to recognise. Otherwise, she might stored them in a document stored on the laptop.

She probably saved the passwords on her own computer. Look for him first. Search her emails. Try to find at least some Ledger addresses. If it does indeed have 13Btc, you can seek professional help. They can offer you several ways to recover your wallet by earning only a% after opening it.

Both you and the poster above have said to check her PC for seed words? Does anyone actually invalidate the use of their hardware wallets by having their seed words on their machines? Like what the hell?
Sadly, yes... there have been numerous instances of people who did stupid things like email themselves their wallet seed mnemonics as a backup... or write the phrase in a text document... or take pictures on their phones of seed phrases displayed onscreen etc. A lot of people just don't seem to comprehend how easy it is to "lose" crypto... Undecided

I would certainly look for the recovery card or a list of 24 words in papers/notebooks etc... but I would definitely be searching through the laptop as well.

First of all, Sorry for your Loss!

What you can try is to search through her PC looking for document types like .txt, .doc, .docx. The most common document extensions. If she saved her seed phrase anywhere on here pc it is likely that she did it in either Word or Notepad.

On Windows 10 you open 'My Computer'.
In the right upper corner you have a search field. Click on that.
Now click on 'Search Tools' which is now available in the menu.
In the 'Type' drop down menu select 'Document'.

The PC should now start a search looking for all known document extensions including .txt .doc etc.
Let it search and after it is done look through the results in search for anything that might look like a word list - those are the seed words.

After you are done with that, check if she has any USB sticks around and check her emails.
