[new rule] stop people giving the mean and interquartile range without box plot

I have noticed recently a lot of people make references to means and interquartile ranges and then don't go on to make a blox plot about it. The least they could do is make a nice box and whisker diagram of the data they have in order to show the range in a much nicer way. There are times when it's really appropriate but for some reasons users don't do this, can we make it a rule?

A lot of people have started making a lot of useless data just for the sake of merit farming. The initial few threads were helpful, now it's just painfully obvious ("let's create every possible set of data that may be helpful is some extreme edge cases once per year, why not-mentality"). As much as I appreciate some of his tools and data (which I use relatively frequently), this includes LoyceV nowdays. Don't waste merit on those threads anymore.

Box plots or figures, they are ways to present data. Did you mean this one? Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, in my opinion. Box plots show overview on data, but tables with figures give more details, detailed numbers. Maybe this post is about me, maybe others. I actually made some posts about that, like in ChipMixer, but if DarkStar_ does not support such posts, I will stop doing this in ChipMixer campaign since this week.

Box plots
The part presents box plots of daily merit for full data, part of data before 19th Jan. 2018, and the rest part of data since 19th Jan. 2018.
The medians are the horizontal lines inside boxes.
With the visual plots, we can easily see the difference between the medians of after and before datasets.

In the above box plot, outliers are not shown.

So it's finally been noticed by someone who isn't me?

I have no issue with loyce but some of the data that users get merited for is completely useless
I'm highly merited at rank of 250 or something so I don't think limiting merits to those members trying to get some is particularly a good idea however unnecessary or useless infographics and data publishing are in my opinion something along the lines of merit farming so maybe there's an issue there...

Outliers can be included in a box plot as that's what it's for.

Sure, it is the main purpose of box plot. However, sometimes outliers should be disabled, like the above box plots. Displaying outliers might make us harder to see differences between two groups or more. This is why I ussually provides two types of box plots: (1) Outliers displayed; (2) Outliers non-displayed.
