From what I've seen in this section, most sellers and buyers are located in the USA.

Are there any people here interested in buying a 1 BTC Casascius coin from Europe?

(Specifically, The Netherlands, Belgium or parts of Germany, maybe France or the UK if the price is good.)

Shipping an item that valuable via postal services does not seem a great idea.
So, as some suggestions go, personally delivering the item would be the best option.
How would this go about?

Meeting at an airport restaurant and making the transfer there, using an app?
I'm just wondering how other people do this Smiley

I am not a newbie, but I haven't been very active here lately. I do not know any other (prominent) forum members personally either, but serious buyers would receive more personal information.

Either use a special over night delivery service and escrow the Bitcoins with someone trusted (like MinerJones) or meet them face-to-face (which also carries risk). There are a few trusted collectors in the Netherlands that might want it/could help if needed.

I usually use UPS Overnight shipping for valuable items. Never had any issues with deliveries so far.

Have you looked into sending by courier and having the full value insured? It’s costly but perhaps worthwhile. You could split the cost with the buyer...

Meet in person and have a cup of coffee whilst the tx is confirmed. In person delivery are the safest especially with high value items....nobody insures digital value.

Done it many times and its fun meeting people who have the same interest you do.

When people come to Manhattan, lunch or dinner is on me. Its a rewardinig experience meeting people from this forum and have never had a negative experience.

I have also hopped abroad and met people from all over the world. Cheesy

Interesting replies, thank you all Smiley
Basically the views are varied. Some people think personal delivery is the way to go, others think using a courier service is better.
In that case it should be combined with some kind of escrow service.

As I have seen, a 1 BTC Casascius coin is worth more than 1.4 BTC so that is already more than 10.000 euros.
So I would not take any risk. Is there any regular mailing service with an insurance for that kind of money?

And it is true, personal delivery carries a certain risk too.

Selling via Ebay could also be an option. AFAIK prices are often higher there.

Why would anyone buy a physical bitcoin in the first place?

To brag about to your friends --- be careful though, you might lose them, especially when prices follow the trajectory foretold by John McAfee
To make hodling easier (yes - I would probably have spent it if it weren't a physical bitcoin)
Because you don't have one
Because you want to show it to your grandchildren "granddad owns a Real Casascius Bitcoin!"
Because you are a coin collector

Any other reasons?

Any other reasons?

Because a physical Bitcoin coin like Casascius were the very first of their kind as far a representing a Physical Bitcoin coin.
Where not only do you have a coin but also a digital coin in one, unique in the history of Numismatics.

Because they make my day when I look at the photos of my collection that I have safely buried in my bunker somewhere in the Mojave desert.

Because I have the collectors blood in me that draws me to these coins in a fascinating way.

Because when I explain to complete newbies how they are made and what they have inside of them I either get a look of wonder
or a look of complete amazement that I would trust Mr Caldwell with making the private keys, which by the way I do completely.

Because our hobby is very unique in the world of collecting and still at its infancy. We are the very first of our kind in this genre of collecting.

And yes because someday I will want my offspring to inherit these gems from the past that helped to change the way people perceived Bitcoin.
