External drives on Mac

Hi guys, I have installed bitcoin core and Armory on my Mac, Bitcoin and Armory both open, I cannot however point Armory to my external hard drives which is where all my data is stored, they simply are not an option to pick form the drop down boxes when trying to select "Bitcoin Home Directory" & "Armory Database Dir" in my preferences...

Can anyone tell me how i achieve this... I can see the external drives everywhere else on the computer....

You should be able to manually type in the path to the external drive for those options, rather than use the dropdown.
I'm not familiar with how Mac mounts these things, but a quick search suggests under /Volumes/your-drive ?
Fair warning external drives aren't ideal. If it is only USB2 capable you're probably in for a hellish experience

Failing that, you can always just specify the appropriate directories in the armoryqt.conf and armorydb.conf files.

You'll need to go to the command line, go into the Armory directory, and manually start Armory. Here's an example. It assumes Armory is in /Applications, and that /Applications/Armory.app/Contents/MacOS is your terminal's working directory.

There are ways to automate this but focus on getting this to run manually for now. ExtDriveName is actually whatever your drive is called, and ArmoryDataLocation and BitcoinCoreDataLocation are the directories where the respective data resides.

Hi guys, thanks for the help, I think i have come to the conclusion that this is all a little beyond me. I have tried for hours on end to get this thing to work with no luck.... I can't for the life of me figure what i am missing but it seems the mac does complicate things somewhat. Although i have also tried on it 2 other windows platforms with no joy...

Did you already found out where your external drive is mounted ? What is the path to your external drive ?

Search for the bitcoin folder on your hard drive and copy this exact path into the armory settings (bitcoin home directory).


If this does not work, do what HCP said, and copy the path into the armoryqt.conf file (inside of the armory directory):

Hi guys, I will try this again when i get home. I think my biggest issue is i don't know how to work around command prompts or terminal in Mac and windows... I have always used windows and am used to the simplified versions. i.e selecting the folders in the preferences...

I will try and work this config file option tonight.. I know where all my bits and pieces are i just don't seem to be able to get Amory to point to them correctly...

Stand by for an update....

You don't really need to use the command prompt.

You can simply navigate to the armory folder and open the config file (it is a text file, so open it with your preferred text editor). If it doesn't exist yet, create it (called armoryqt.conf).

Then simply enter 1 line (satoshi-dir) into this text file containing the path to the blockchain folder as mentioned in previous replies.
