This is great. I think it's a great motivation for everyone. It is good that she posts videos on YouTube because anyone could see it and understand that there's nothing wrong with crypto. Maybe someone will be inspired by this and want to do something like that.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

There is nothing amazing and exciting in this "challenge" if we can even call it that way. It's like travel in countries with money, not huge difference especially if we consider the fact that she had chosen these countries and knew where to hire hotels with crypto, where were shops and etc which were accepting cryptos. Even the statistics of those videos shows that it meant almost nothing in people.
Challenge will be if she go in countries where bitcoin isn't accepted and find some ways to somehow find people who will wish to get bitcoin.

This is interesting but the YouTube videos are so little. It is like that she is not updating her YouTube videos regularly, it would be more fun if he is uploading her videos every day about that, telling people places where to go or what to visit that are crypto friendly. She can motivate people to do that by uploading those but she did not do that. I don't even know if this is legit true or not.

Well, it takes time before a vlogger upload a video one after the other. It takes time to edit, which to include and to exclude and other stuffs. I'm not a vlogger or anything but I have done simple video editing before and it took me several days to come up with the video that is good enough. My point is, let's not pressure her though. Just saying. Grin

Anyway, that was an interesting journey using only crypto. Thanks to Google for allowing her to know the countries open to crypto. Hope I can do that too in the near future. Guess this will trigger other crypto users who also want to travel.

And hoping someday i do that also in my own to travel using crypto currency to show to all people didn't believe the capability of crypto currency as new form of many use in a different country.

Before the trip, Barclay claims she had never “had never actually purchased anything with” her cryptocurrency, but through her interest in the digital asset class and through her love for travel and passion for learning more, she decided to challenge herself and see if she could “live on crypto” throughout her travels.
So that's why she said that spending is hard.
Quote
Spending Crypto is Hard Because HODL, Not Because You Can’t

Quote
Towards the end of her 12-week challenge, though, Barclay admits that she stopped spending as much of her crypto holdings because the price of Bitcoin was going up so much towards the end of her journey. Despite curbing her own spending due to the HODL effect, Barclay does believe that each passing year “we will see more and more places accepting it and more people knowing what it is,” and that as the “market matures and prices become less volatile, more people will start spending it.”
Yeah, sure. But you won't even spend them anymore because of the "HODL effect".
Look, I'm not saying that it is a bad thing to keep on HODL-ing. For the matter of fact, it is actually what we should do. HODL. But that doesn't mean we have to be crazy about it. It doesn't mean we have to stay away from spending our coins just to keep on this philosophical perspective. Especially if you made a 12-week on spending Bitcoin. It just doesn't suit with the idea of the project itself in the first place. To be honest, I'm quite impressed by the method she was using to find all the Bitcoin-accepted places along the way. Like seriously! How could you possibly manage to survive on this time of the year just with cryptocurrencies in your hand?

Although you can search information on google, it's still quite hard to do it in real life. Imagine, everything you'll spend are through bitcoin. An applause foe her for finishing her challenge. But I was wondering about her transpo, if she's also using crypto for travelling from different cities?
But regardless of that, it's still amazing that she was able to finish her challenge. And just like to what she said “we will see more and more places accepting it and more people knowing what it is,” I'm also looking forward to the time where more businesses will accept crypto as a payment because it'll also help to increase the recognition of bitcoin.

Well, it is not the first time that this has been done and I also know about people who sold their house to buy bitcoins and when the price skyrocketed in 2017, they sold more than 80% of their coins and made a huge profit. They then used that profit to travel around the world.

Some people do this, but they still had to use a credit card or cash in some countries, because they could not find Bitcoin merchants that accepted Bitcoin as a payment option.

The crux of the matter is, that it is becoming easier to travel the globe with only using Bitcoin as a payment option.  Wink

I don't trust this so called "journey".She might be using the good old cash, while pretending to use bitcoin. Grin
Is there a way to verify that she's actually paying with bitcoin for all the goods and services that she gets?
Maybe sharing transaction IDs or posting some screenshots to her wallet. This still isn't trustworthy, but there must be a way to verify the purchases. Grin

But what about booking tickets online ?

Maybe she was lucky that her country and the countries she was travelling to were actually receiving the payments in cryptocurrencies.

If one would travel in a developing country like India , one would only be able to maybe buy a coffee using it , same is the condition with ukraine.

Unfortunately she would have suffered a huge loss actually because of the volatility in the few months now .

You are wrong about India as their is no shop or place where you can do cryptocurrency transaction apart from converting to fiat currency. Even now India have banned the cryptocurrency usage so it is not possible to use cryptocurrency in Asian country's. I think she has mostly travelled in America and Europe country where only it is possible to do anything through crypto currency.

This is a clear picture of the world getting into cryptocurrencies. This goes to show that crypto is now ready to take over the role which was once held by fiat. And it is possible. However, the problem is that there are still isolated spots which might be very hard for crypto to reach. There are countries that are really very tight against crypto. Not to mention some countries that are really left out by advancing technologies.

this is certainly good news for crypto currency in particular and the block chain technology in general. The future is bright for crypto, there are lots of untapped potentials in this ecosystem of coins.

Well that's demanding a bit too much, after all, we strive for privacy here but I'm on the same page as you
To me, this looks like a publicity stunt and the way she abandoned her quest hints as money being her only objective for this so-called adventure.

Also, I checked her videos and a few places she uses 3rd party payment processors, so it's not actually paying with crypto, I could do the same basically by using my Wirex card:)
I spend crypto the merchant gets fiat.

And never trust youtubers, I remember how some channel that was building huts or pools with "primitive" technology was caught using excavators and power tools to actually doing their job.
I would believe more the story from China, when that girl was not able to get some food and she filmed herself eating leftovers. Everyone can make a pretty face while faking something, look at what I was able to do, but too actually humiliate yourself in a way that doesn't serve your goal, there is no reason to fake it.

i'd say the goal was to gain some fame online and in that she was very successful. and that can be the explanation of why she did the things she did in those videos. otherwise i honestly found the whole thing very strange and unrealistic in many parts.

co-host youtube Australian woman (Jailde Barclay) who actually travels 7 countries and 16 diferent cities alone using only cryptocurrency.

- What are these 7 countries?

- What are these 16 cities?

and why should this be news? it seems that bitcoin is something that is in the rock bottom and that then needs an advertising campaign. Eventually all the countries of the world will accept bitcoin as a means of payment, we do not need to be doing this type of advertising

This lady is just trying to get the fame lol. And she googled before? not once she's in the country? Cheesy What a challenge

Her fame will be good for bitcoin adoption. What's wrong with wanting to be famous? At least she goes out of the house.

Her 12-weeks challenge spending crypto paying hotels, restaurants and shoppings is really difficult because bitcoin is bullish at the moment she is travelling.
You never expect every place to accept bitcoin at this point but she can find places where bitcoin is accepted but i am not sure what you mean by the difficulty she is going through because of the bullish trend  Huh. If a merchant accepts bitcoin what is the difficult if the market trend is bullish  Roll Eyes.
The only difficulty will be finding more places where you can spend your coins, i will not take up a challenge like that if i am travelling as i need to relax and enjoy the ride rather than straining myself while travelling, it is a good publicity stunt by that lady  Grin.

It will took a lot of research, looking for traveling needs that can be payed through cryptocurrency would be difficult, unless you convert it to cash on your own, instantly. Hopefully it woul be easy for us in the coming years.

This is possible as long as the places that she visits are all accepting Bitcoin payments. I think she planned well her travels and expenses as it is unwise that you will just tour any places directly with just depending on Bitcoin only for all of your future expenses on the road.

For sure she also used Cash in some instances because even though most of her packages accepts bitcoin but on those countries some needs also cash for payments
But this is some good encouragement for cryptonians specially Bitcoiners who’s expecting this kind of luxurious activities in future using their digital assets
And ofcourse my dream as well since when everyone I wanna spend my crypto for traveling,I need to convert to fiat first before spending

I think this is a great story. I am happy for her, this is a very good experience. She gained knowledge about bitcoins and cryptocurrency, and also made an interesting journey. I would also like to make such a journey
