ANTMINER S1 powers off when starting to mine

It seems that I have a power supply issue, but to be honest I thought my power supply would cope with the load.

Does anyone have experience with this PSU ?

If I disconnect one of the blades (the one without the control module) the miner runs just fine.
The PSU has two 6-pin connectors chained to each other, is it possible to use any other cable to power the other blade ? Or is it mandatory to replace the PSU for a more powerful one ?

I actually run my on an 580W Bequiet PSU (http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/282) with 564W on 2*2 PCIE Connectors and it works fine as long as I doesn't power both blades from the same 12V string.

You only have 444W on your 12V, so it should run in theory, but perhaps your S1 needs more power to start. You can try to underclock it or (what I would suggest) try a more powerfull PSU.

On my PSU I have 2 PCIe-8 outputs which are splitted into 2 PCIe-6 connectors (Output 1 + 2 with connectors 1.1 / 1.2 / 2.1 / 2.1).
I can not power both blades of the S1 from the same output. I have to put one blade on output 1 and the other on output 2.

You PSU is listed as having 2x 12V rails. You need to ensure you pull power from the different rails. Maybe one for PCI-e, and maybe you need to get the other 12V from the mainboard connector ? Or some other connector.

A single rail PSU is easier. Use any connectors you want.

If it does just do it the old fashioned way for one blade.

The same thing happened to me yesterday.
My PSU had specs of 2 PCI-E 6+2 but they were chained so really it was just one.

So I stripped the 4+4 plugs and did it the old fashioned way for one of the blades.

Works fine so far

EDIT: Remember if you go this way with the 4+4 you will be left with two exposed wires. Tape them carefully.

Are you sure it will carry the load as it claims? I believe not.

Worst scenario, buy another same one and supply each blade separately.

use one connector and plug it into either side of the blade.  you will run at half power.   do this for one hour. you should run at 90GH

power off do the same wire on the other side of the antminer do this for 1 hour.  if the ant miner runs the hour each time then the problem is your psu.


some psu 's have 1 rail at 12 volts in your case you may have 2 rails with 12 volts.   this mean you have to use tow fully separate wires pulling juice for each part of the miner. 

 do what I said first to find out if there is a completely different issue.   then splitting power.    get back to us

Tried this just now to no avail. The antminer just shuts down after boot.
Is there a way to determine on which rail is every wire ? Although it doesn't make much sense for the 4+4 and PCI express power connectors to be in the same rail. I may be hitting the limit of the PSU.

I will have to agree.
If you have tried to use the old fashioned way to no avail then dump the PSU and get a better one.

80% efficiency?  Toss that piece of shit.  Anything less than 87% is garbage made with garbage parts.  Personally, for hardware as expensive as an S1, don't get anything cheaper than 80 GOLD RATED.
