~~~ With PSG lost last night, it would be more interesting to see this group. United needs to secure their spot on UEFA Europa League. this photo really makes me laugh.. these matches happen and these mistakes are completely normal some teams arrive in the Champions League totally unprepared and yes, now that group becomes an interesting battlefield It was very funny how Man United's defense last night, especially when Demba Ba's first goal in MU's defense was completely destroyed, there was no defender to guard Demba Ba. It's true what Gerry Niville said about Maguire not being fit to be a United defender because he played so badly. Second goal İstanbul Başakşehir make us laughing how come three defender of Manchester United do not take care of opposing players and looks they take care with their friend him self, for success in champion and primer league United have get new defensif player again and sell maguire to other club. you are absolutely right you know? I think the team panicked or were tired or not adequately prepared athletically or all these reasons together, because it's a pretty gross mistake I must say but unfortunately it happens and the opponents obviously take advantage of it (they try)
Maybe they plan to drink coffee together or they apply social distancing to opposing players (lol). EPL class players made us laugh. They are like amateurs or children who have just played soccer. They only focus on the ball, they don't see the other players moving. Their position is also not ready. There might be more hashtags for #oleout with this result.
That basaksehir game was basically the talk of the night, and even though there were other games that we could consider not favorites winning, I would say the biggest shock was United losing and with how they are doing in the premier league as well, things are not looking great for the team.
I have said repeatedly that we should give them some time because pandemic breaks and restarts and breaks and restarts constantly may have affected some teams more than other teams hence why United could get into a better momentum later stage in the season, but you can't just lose to this team, united should have won this game very very easily, they are giving up points in games both here and in premier league where they shouldn't, lose against big teams would be understandable but losing to much smaller teams rings alarm bells.
I kinda agree with you. Sure the Corona crisis has a lot of impact with many matches in a short period of time. But that's not only the case for Manchester United. Fact is that they are damn inconsistant with their performances. One week they sent home Leipzig with 5 goals, the next week they are losing to Basaksehirs, a team that hasn't won a single match in the Champion League, like ever! Man United also had a very bad start to the Premier League season. And so far they could've compensated it a bit with their performances in the UCL but now that match yesterday ... They have to get their shit together. Otherwise tough times will be ahead for Solskjaer.
Ok, I hope Manchester United can move on as soon as possible and make the fans happy again. Losing really isn't wanted, but this is football. You never know what will happen on the pitch even though Manchester United are the favorite there. Forget for a moment Manchester United's embarrassing defeat last night as I am very happy Barcelona are still doing well so far as group leader. 3 maximum result they can achieve and that's fantastic in my opinion even though in the league they are not consistent enough. Some disappointing result in the league are unlikely to affect them at UCL and this is hope. I hope that in the second leg the two team will play their superstar and it will be a great reunion between Ronaldo and Messi. Hopefully that happen on December 9th.
All teams all over the world have been affected by the lockdowns imposed due to Covid, this is no excuse for United's poor performance. There are teams with far less quality players but have still managed to perform well so far despite the breaks. Manchester United are so inconsistent and the problem could be coming from the coaching staff because the avearge quality of players they have is not bad.
All Real Madrid has to do is will all their remaining games. Borussia mönchengladbac is a tougher challenger as compared to FC Shakhtar Donetsk
First winning against Madrid in Bernabeau and then lose with 0-6 I think this is the COVID effect. I see often now without people at the stadium games when a high number of goals are scored. I remember an Aston Villa Liverpool 7-2, several 6 - 0. It will be interesting to see if it is only my impression or it has a statitical value. For example in Serie a games with more than 6 goals 0-6 1-5 2-4 3-3 4-2 5-1 6-0 0-7 1-6 2-5 3-4 4-3 5-2 6-1 7-0 0-8 1-7 2-6 3-5 4-4 5-3 6-2 7-1 8-0 0-9 1-8... 2016-2017 20 2017-2018 19 2018-2019 20 2019-2020 33 2020-2021 already 7 This site track it: https://www.statistichesulcalcio.com/mainstats.php?anno=125&parz2=sleep&parz=sleepIt is in italian Edit: english version https://www.statistikbet.com/
So many red cards this week. First we have Sevilla getting a red card versus Krasnodar at half-time but yet they still managed to put in two goals at the second half, and Krasnodar scored none in the second half. Then we have a Rennes red card against Chelsea, who absolutely stomped them with a penalty goal and a third goal a few minutes later. Chelsea was already leading 1-0 at the time the red card was shown. The last and most brutal match was Leipzig vs PSG where PSG got two red cards. Both cards were shown after all the goals of the match were scored, and the second one came at the very end of the match but this really prevented PSG from at least making a tie let alone a win. Not that Leipzig is particularly good or anything - after all, they did lose 5-0 to Man United a week ago. Shaktar vs Monchengladbach looks unreal. baring the own goal Shaktar did, 3 of them were scored by Alassane Plea, and they're lucky to have a really good striker like him. (He was playing sticker in this match but I heard he also does winger sometimes). 2016-2017 20 2017-2018 19 2018-2019 20 2019-2020 33 2020-2021 already 7
How does that explain the 33 count for 2019-2020 though? Coronavirus came into football leagues late in the season so that couldn't have caused matches to get that many goals quickly, and I don't recall anything else abnormal happening in that season.
I was also surprised by the many red cards in the Champions League match this week, maybe some players are experiencing stress due to the COVID19 situation. So it affects mentally when playing, and finally getting emotional easily results in red cards. The most surprising thing is the two red cards PSG got when they lost to Leipzig, This looks frustrating PSG players after Emil Forsberg scored a goal that put Leipzig ahead. For Moenchengladbach to win by a large score is beyond estimation, and I agree Alassane Plea did play extraordinary by scoring 3 goals and 1 assist. So Moenchengladbach deserved to win against Shakhtar Donetsk.
That's an interesting observation. It is really noticeable. The German teams alone scored a total of 26 goals in their 6 matches in Champions and Europla League this matchday. But why do you think it's an effect from the Corona crisis? Do you think that in a match without fans in the stadium the player aren't that motivated in general (the atmosphere really feels like a training match in front of the TV)? Or can it be a result of the packed schedules so that teams are depending even more on the stamina of their players?
According to the last situation of groups, I think there is no team that can stand on Bayern Munich's way now. They are playing at a much higher level than their competitors. If it goes this way, they won't have big problems on winning the cup.
Not in Serie A, we were the League with the bigger number of games not played before the suspension. We may be even stopped after others Leagues but we started late and with more games to be played.
COVID could partly be the contributor. The UCL has also had some modifications where they have been playing almost every other week. O don't think players have had enough rest especially since the Summer break was so short. Another case could be due to VAR, so many penalties and dangerous free kicks have been awarded due to even simple fouls. Such fouls could have easily been avoided in the Pre-VAR era.
I think the major influencer here is the people at the stadium nothing more. I never seen so many goals ever, even now when they can rest the normal week. Even taking for example 4 goals in a game and be hissed by spectators can save you to take 3 more goals for example even if you are demoralized. Now without anyone cheering for you or hissing you, you can take the punch and never stand up again...
They really play very good football right now. They continue the good performance they had last season. The final however is just one match where anything can happen. A penalty, a red card or a header may be critical for the game. I don't think that Bayern is going to be the winner of the Cl for a second time in a row this season. There are a lot of competitive teams such as Liverpool, Real and City that can be the winners as well.
in some cases COVID was the main contributor to the results. for the example, just remember the match Shakhtar - Borussia M where ukrainian team lost 0-6 due to weakened squad (many players were restoring after COVID).
On the other hand, Shakhtar managed to beat Real and get draw against Inter without even more players. But yeah, I agree that Covid is huge factor this season, especially when you lose half of squad or key player like Ronaldo. Another case could be due to VAR, so many penalties and dangerous free kicks have been awarded due to even simple fouls. Such fouls could have easily been avoided in the Pre-VAR era.
I will correct you a bit, VAR can't be used to award free kicks. But it would be interesting to compare average number of goals scored and penalties awarded in Europa League, where VAR isn't used and Champions league.
