Survey: 27% of UK Residents Want to See Crypto in More Real-World Applications

27% of surveyed United Kingdom citizens hope to see cryptocurrencies in “real-world applications," according to recent research by U.K.-based crypto exchange CEX.io, technology news outlet BTCManager reported on June 27.

CEX.io provided BTCManager the results of its recent survey focused on the level of adoption, application, and expectations of digital currencies in the U.K. The report — which was prepared in collaboration with London-based research firm qriously — highlights answers from 1,013 respondents.

Per the survey, 32% of respondents said that they would like the technology to be better integrated with "everyday technology" like payments apps and mobile storage, while 27% revealed they want to see crypto in “real-world applications such as credit card payments or sending money abroad.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I have seen survey results for U.K. citizens before and all I can say is that when it comes to understanding and knowledge when it comes to cryptocurrency so they are pretty open when it comes to topics that relate to Bitcoin. Pretty soon all their curiousity will be put to the test as soon as the crypto industry develops more in their country which I think won't be that long especially when businesses see that their own people are open with the idea.

I'm sure that not only UK residents wanted to see crypto like Bitcoin to be used in real-life applications. Specially in buying on-line stuff, the problem is merchant is not willing to accept it as mode of payment. We have been like this for years, and my thought is that is should start first locally, like restaurants or at least groceries or stores in our country before it take on the bigger scale. However, we all know that main reason why merchants are not ready for crypto and we just hope that this notion can be changed in the next 10 years or so.

while 27% revealed they want to see crypto in “real-world applications such as credit card payments or sending money abroad.

Isn't this already possible, and already integrated?

You've got people that are using BTC as exactly that - a tool to transfer money internationally with. You've also got bitcoin debit cards, which essentially allows anyone to pay for the majority of goods and services available that can be paid with a VISA/mastercard.

I don't think that's the primary concern here at all. The primary concern should be about the actual merchant adoption of BTC, without the use of payment processors that take their BTC and convert them into fiat as soon as they receive them. Only when that happens will BTC be truly stable, imo.

More and more people are getting aware of cryptocurrency especially with bitcoin but they wanted more solid infrastructure available to them and that they can use everyday. Of course, top on the list are the apps that can send cryptocurrencies anywhere anytime by anyone as long as one has the gadget and internet connection. In other words, people wanted to see practical applications for cryptocurrency and not just an investment and trading vehicle. Actually, I find this good news because developers can now confirm if their ideas may have the chance to thrive and flourish in the real marketplace. Definitely, these concerns are not exclusive to UK residents but also anywhere else in the world.

Was a be little excited when i saw those numbers, because they would be pretty high all things considered.

But as in all reports as statistics, we have to look on the survey itself first. How it was done, in what age those people are and how many there were.
The article states only 1000 people took part and their age groups are not shows. This is too small of a group to represent all the UK and more additional information should be know of this group before jumping to conclusions.

I've searched at length but can't seem to find a link anywhere to the original report or data, just a variety of useless news articles which all repeat the same talking points without providing any details.

Given that the survey was voluntary and conducted by CEX.io, the population they sampled is likely already involved in crypto in some form, but without a link to their methodology, we don't for sure and so any figures or conclusions we try to draw are meaningless. A study by YouGov, which took a true sample of the general population in the UK, found that only 4% of people owned bitcoin. I find it hard to believe that 27% of people want to be able to use bitcoin in "more real-world applications" when only 4% own any bitcoin.

while the number is pretty high , we do not know how was the survey conducted
1000 people can be a good representation with on average 2-3% error margin ( it depends on many factors and the professionalism of the pollers)
it also depends on the questions asked , it can be Do you think bitcoin can be used in more real world applications?
which is very easy to get a positive response to , unless the respondent never heard about what bitcoin is
this would mean that at least 30% +- have heard about bitcoin and are positive about it - want it to be used more

For real world to adopt it the government is responsible to make it legal and provide assistance to merchants to start accepting the btc as a payment mode and once this happens people will stay using the btc to make payment . Unless this happen people will not use it .

What are you talking about? The government has no such responsibility, and is far more likely to actively fight against bitcoin adoption since it impacts on their monopoly of printing fiat whenever they need some.

Not only that, the whole point of bitcoin is to move away from government regulated money, where other people decide how, when and why you can you use your own money. Why would we want the government to get involved?

That's how every survey is gone. They get a group of 1000 people with different age, sex, location, income, etc. This is called a  representative sample and the sociologists make their conclusions based on the answers of that target group. No agency is able to conduct a survey across all 60 million people living in Britain.

No agency is able to conduct a survey across all 60 million people living in Britain.
No one is suggesting that, but it's a big jump to extrapolate from 1000 to 60 million. They also provide no details of the demographics sampled or how they chose participants. If I survey 1000 users of this forum, I would find 100% have heard of bitcoin and 99% want more widespread usage. If I survey 1000 nonagenarians, I might find 1% have heard of bitcoin and none of them care about more widespread usage.

The important point of a sample is that it what's call a representative sample. Their ages, sex, race, education level, income, etc., should be in roughly the same proportion as the general population. Without this, an extrapolation is meaningless.
