[BEWARE] Facebook Fake/Scam Giveaways!

Scam giveaways now already spread all over the social medias account, like in twitter which they are all over, replying to some famous crypto user with such image, an impostor of some big crypto profile. This is very alarming for every newbie out there, especially it is social media, everyone can see those posts/comments.

I recently found this kind of scam on Facebook.



They are waiting for a particular Facebook page to post something and they will start to post about their fake giveaways using their fake accounts or impostor account.

This is the post of original facebook page..


And when you open the comment section..... here they are.



When you visit those facebook account/page, you can see it is fake.


But some of the facebook page already notice their followers that they are NOT doing such giveaways and warn their followers.


Very alarming isn't it?
They are all over the facebook, not only on one facebook page.

How you can avoid this?

I found another solution how you can avoid to see this kind of comments on every post on some famous crypto facebook pages/accounts.

If you will look on the comments, you can see a drop down, which will sort the comments, based on Most relevant, Newest, All comments.

By default, it is set by Most Relevant, but this can be effective if there are already a lot of comments, because it will just sort and avoid some spam/scam comments. Check the screenshot I uploaded below for more information about this feature on the comment section of every posts.

Again, it is still the best to report the posts if you encounter these kinds of comment/posts.

Another solution:

Always double check the profile of every account in social media before you make a transaction since it is really easy to create a fake or impostor account.
Protect your bitcoin against scammers, never trust your bitcoin with other people. Always READ and think before you click.

This is really being a trend whenever bitcoin start to raise. In one of my local faceboom group, I'm also having some this kind of post are pop up.
I think no one ever ask for deposit in order to run a giveaway. Thank you for warning newbies.

You will be surprised that there are still a lot of noobs who still fall for this kind of tricks. Because greed, their decisions are clouded, seeing that they are going to make their bitcoin double.

We saw such scam attempts on Twitter for years, so it's not something new, now they just moved to Facebook. It's not very difficult to spot fake profile - usually their name is a bit different from original psge, like in image we see CoinDésk, when it should be Coindesk. Also, fake profile have small number of likes and not many posts on their profile. But all these fake shill profiles of people who are telling that they got BTC from giveaway makes impression that everything is legit here and this is why people are falling into this scam. But giveaways which ask to deposit money is the most obvious scams.

@mersal you’re absolutely correct as no legit website or person will ever ask for money in advance, but the problem is people get greedy and forget to use common sense. The best way to deal with this is to report spam to Facebook, they’ll take down their accounts and posts. Earlier people used to fall for these kind of scams, but now people have gotten smarter very few fall for this type of scam.

Apparently Cointelegraph's Official FB page is aware of this situation and they pinned the post about it. The problem I see here is even Cointelegraph's official fb page doesn't have any  verified badge under their profile so any scammers can just copy their page and comment on all of their posts and pretend that they are the ones commenting for a promo. This scams in FB or in any social media won't stop and reporting them is not a permanent solution so really being vigilant is your way to avoid this scams.

It still baffles me why Facebook will allow the creation of fake/scam accounts even for established companies without asking for some sort of documentation to ascertain authenticity. As a rule of thumb,the account with higher subscribers is likely to be the real account

It's alarming to the newbies that doesn't know this modus. Before these scammers are on twitter and after being noticed and people from twitter became aware of it they migrated to facebook. I usually ignore them whenever I find one.

Being informed and aware of these scams will be the best weapon to avoid them.

IIRC Facebook already requires a new user to provide some kind of documentation (or in short, KYC) before it can be used. So in theory, it is not possible to make more than one account for each individual. But I'm still seeing a lot of fake profiles on Facebook till now, which is one of the reasons I leave social media.

Honestly, even if we use common sense we should be able to tell that if it's too good to be true (send 1 ETH get 10 ETH back), then it's probably a scam.

Not only on facebook this kind of scam and impersonation is spreading to all social media platform especially on Twitter and messaging app like telegrams.
If an admin PM you first most likely it's an imposter, admin never pm first to propose some investment or something. If they ask something that involves money you should be wary. So we need to be careful and report if we encounter this kind of happenings for the benefit of everyone.

If people now are complaining KYC requirements on crypto wallets, exchanges, and gambling sites what more will they say if FB (and maybe Instagram) ask KYC for verification? Facebook won't do it on their own not until its some kind of law for them to follow, its like they are limiting their own products (which is us the users) for nothing in return. Aside from that this is also an issue of privacy for the real users, social media websites are used for entertainment purposes wth would they need to verify their accounts if its not yet financially related?

Unfortunately so many people fall for the most obvious scam attempts. General logic tends to go to hibernation state when money is involved and all they think about is what they are going to do with the money they get back after sending it to Vitalik Buterin's ETH address.

It just might be due to their own personal reasons. Aside from directly linking your website to you FB page and giving a public phone number verified badge does not require any certain amount of likes or followers but it also involves some kind of KYC where they need to submit a public government identified ID. Cointelegraph is just a website and they are risking themselves on being identified to tax/legal obligations once they submit KYC to a certain website which in this case is Facebook.

The only way to avoid this scam is not to be greedy,greediness is what makes many fall victim to this trick

This one use fake username with minor-Unicode changes. Scammers apply this strategy with phishing sites, too.
