As some point I thought I saw there was a 0.4.1 version of the Bitcoin client in the works. Is that correct or is 0.5.0 going to be the next officially released version?

You can't win if you don't play. But you can't play if you lose all your chips. First I found bitcoin (BTC). Then I found something better, Monero (XMR). See GetMonero.org

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

0.5.0 is next; just working out the last build/deploy issues now...

A day or two after a release is final I always bump the third version number, so somebody running "git head" (the latest source code) has a newer version number.  So there was a 0.4.1 that was never released; the switch to Qt for the graphical UI was a big enough change to justify a jump to version 0.5

How often do you get the chance to work on a potentially world-changing project?

0.5.0 is the next feature version. 0.4.1 will just be bugfixes on top of 0.4.0
