4 day Test? Let's not play Test match anymore LOL
Honestly speaking there are only few people left in the world who actually enjoy Test cricket. Instead of making it more interesting, they are now planning to erase the entire format? Not cool.

I agree 100%.

During the last 4-5 years, I don't remember watching any test match for more than ten minutes (with the Ashes being the sole exception). I know that a lot of the traditionalists want test matches to be played between the major teams. But viewer interest and revenues are on the decline. And during the last 2-3 years, T20 franchise leagues such as the IPL and the BBL have grown even bigger than their own respective cricketing bodies (BCCI and CA respectively). The future belongs to T20, whether the traditionalists like it or not.

T20 matches are made to make more profits because if a test match happens it will take 5 days but in the same 5 days 10 t20 matches can be conducted so 10x profits with the same expense.

Well I would say something about Test cricket Jersey I didn't find anything attractive in the new design of Jersey with name and number logo I think the previous design was better simple and plane ICC should reverse their decision.

<snip>
England vs SA = Green pitches = Enjoy the battle in between bat and ball.
Just checked the result of the first Test and to be honest it was surprising to see SA won it. I thought SA was a team who were struggling to get their grip with their recent form in any format but seeing England lost 107 is a wake up call for England. Yes, the pitch in South Africa are bouncy and heaven for fast bowlers but the same apply for SA batting lineup too.

Anyway, this is good for us. In a pool we will have uncertainty. I am going to start the pool for the 2nd Test very soon and will update the TG channel. Hope we will get enough users. How about akhjob and others who were regular in the pool? A long break always sucks honestly, we lose rhythm. I also need to check who has which amount that I am holding too.

They surprised me to be honest. Who would have expected the mighty England to lose against SA who are going through a bad phase at the moment? The crazy part is that their win was quite convincing which is not that surprising if you think about it.

England have been damn lucky last year in major tournaments and barely won most of their matches. Looks like their luck is finally running out.

South African bowlers did a good job wrapping up England batsman quickly. 300 in an innings is not something you can have difficulty keeping up but Philander-Rabada and Nortje made things hard for the England. England needed someone in middle , perhaps Stokes or Buttler to score some for them.

I haven't been following cricket up much lately but still keep my tabs for some hours a day (guess have been caught up by EPL fever lately Grin).

I was actually planning to ask what do you guys think about 4-day Test. It was recently proposed by ICC. Just want to hear opinions here. If already raised in this thread please link me up.  Smiley

There is a lot of interest in the T20 format because of the less time to get the results compared to the rest of the versions of cricket and it is not about traditionalist arguing against any changes, but Test matches shows the skills of a player and so is the reason i watch those matches because of limited rules favoring batsman and if the match is between two good teams then there will be interest in the match.

I am going to start the pool for the 2nd Test very soon and will update the TG channel. Hope we will get enough users.
If there is a TG channel please do share that so that i will get updated about these pools, i missed a few pools and i misses the timing of the match most of the time and if there is a channel for everyone who is willing to participate then it would be great as it will be easy to follow these things. The match starts tomorrow and i am willing to participate.

No doubt that they were very lucky in 2019. Taking WC, Ashes draw...
But honestly speaking it was Stokesi who basically brought them those lucks. He played two phenomenal innings in WC final and in the 2nd Ashes Test (was it in the 2nd test or 3rd one?). Without those two innings I do not think much would happened. It's a great example of how one single character can change the image of entire nation in a sports.

Man I am old school and I like to see 5 day Test matches. You can not just shrink cricket. If you make it shorter then Test match is not going to be Test match anymore. We will not see another Lara or Matthew Hayden or Don Bradman perhaps.

I only watch Ashes and what ever changes they make i do not want them to change anything for the Ashes, we will not see great matches we had in the past if it were 4 days and majority of the matches will end up in a draw which will again drive away people from the sport, watching the match for 4 days without any result sucks big time and Test cricket is the only sport in the world that has that specialty Cheesy and if they shrink that then we will see more draws than results.

Completely agreed with what Royse777 posted here. We have two other formats in cricket (for shorter duration games) and therefore it will be better if we leave test cricket as it is. But then, I have to tell something. We will never get to see another player of the caliber of Brian Lara/Sachin Tendulkar or Glenn McGrath/Dale Steyn. These players are most suited for test cricket. Without test cricket, these players would have never become the legends which they are today.

With test cricket fading in to oblivion, we may see more batsmen like Pollard and Gayle who are better in smashing ball outside the park rather than technically superior batsmen such as Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. The same with bowlers as well. I really doubt whether we'll see a player like Dale Steyn ever again. The future belongs to T20 bowlers, such as Rashid Khan and Mitchell Santner.

There was a time when i used to follow cricket like a religion when i was young and there was a time when i never used to miss a ball even for Test matches and i used to watch all the matches around the globe and that too major Test series especially when Australia and South Africa were playing against any top nation but with age you are not getting the time to watch the matches but i really do not want to see any changes in the format especially with all the new rules which favor batsman and in the past ten years we are seeing results and if they reduce the number of days what do you expect, we will see more draws rather than results.

I have to disagree with Sachin Tendulkar, he performed well in ODI than in Test matches but he played many match winning innings in Test matches too but when it comes to Lara he played many match winning innings in Test cricket and they would have been legends even without Test matches, Glenn McGrath and Dale Steyn are legendary bowlers but they performed well in the shorter format too

Stokes proved to be the hero that England needed, but it was sad to see his personal life mired in controversy when his professional life was improving spectacularly. ICC+Stokes are the lucky charms of England these days.

With test cricket fading in to oblivion, we may see more batsmen like Pollard and Gayle who are better in smashing ball outside the park rather than technically superior batsmen such as Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.
Very unfair comparison. Pollard and Gayle are great at hitting maximums while Sachin and Dravid are great at playing finesse shots which is why both are great in unique aspects. I personally find both equally entertaining.

I think that Vishnu was implying that the batting style of Pollard and Gayle suits more to the T20 format.

I would agree with that. T20 batsmen needs no great batting technique. All they need to do is to smash the ball out of the park (just like the West Indian batsmen such as Dre Russ and Kieron Pollard). You will not get to see classic cricket shots (such as off drive of Rahul Dravid or the majestic straight drive by Sachin Tendulkar) in the T20 format. To witness such classy batting, you need to watch test cricket (and to some extent ODIs as well, but ODIs are also getting similar to T20 now).

OZ vs NZ 3rd test is in progress.Auz won the toss and betting first and actually they are batting well at the moment lost only 3 wickets and scored 259 in 85 overs.Marnus Labuschagne os setting him up for big score already on 124 and counting more than 200 balls on his bat.

Yes, The Australia team will be going get big total sure as doing well performs there they already scored 280/3 in 89 overs and still two more overs to stop 1st day play. so it is looks easy to score 600+ from Australia team, todays credits go to Australia batting.

¬snip¬
majority of the matches will end up in a draw which will again drive away people from the sport, watching the match for 4 days without any result sucks big time and Test cricket is the only sport in the world that has that specialty Cheesy and if they shrink that then we will see more draws than results.
I think these days Test matches are attacking than the old days. Most of the Test has results now a days where in the old days we would see teams had this tendency to play a Test for draw. They used to be defensive in Test matches. Those who watches regular Test matches, I think they will understand what I am saying.

¬snip¬

With test cricket fading in to oblivion, we may see more batsmen like Pollard and Gayle who are better in smashing ball outside the park rather than technically superior batsmen such as Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.
Absolutely true. These days players are more like Baseball players (no disrespects to the hard hitter by the way, it's a skill too). There was a time when I used to wait for Dravid to play his innings. The Wall was the most stylish and one of the best technically sound player in my opinion.

Talking about bowlers, have we forgot the peer of Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh? In Test match standing in the pitch against these two legends was a big deal for any batsmen back in the days. There were no rules for bouncers at that time and these two were master at bouncers. These days these added on rules like bouncer restrictions, too many power plays, and many more actually killed the test of real cricket. Bowlers are like they are very limited by law to show their aggression.

I have to disagree with Sachin Tendulkar, he performed well in ODI than in Test matches but he played many match winning innings in Test matches too but when it comes to Lara he played many match winning innings in Test cricket
History even can not figure out who is the best yet, Lara or Sachin. These players had not only served their own countries but also the entire cricket. Without them any format cricket would have not many influences. Most of the youngsters from last decade dreamed to be the next Sachin and Lara back in the days and still they do. For example: Kohli

Oz again win the toss and batting first . If Nz would have won the toss results would have being different NZ would be crusing just like now how OZ is going . 280/3 it seems OZ would make 500 runs in first innings and put NZ again under pressure .
