Don't you people think that these posts should be banned already? Especially on the Bitcoin Discussion forum. They just don't really add any value at all; the predictions only generate more and more "mOoNbOyZ" in the community.

Not to mention that it's just going to be spammed by those low ranked "bOuNtY hUnTerZ".

I have mixed feelings on this. While signature campaigns definitely adds to the spam a bit especially from the lower rank campaigns, let's be a little bit considerate to the people who are living on shit hole countries that are trying to legitimately earn extra income here. FortuneJack and ChipMixer members are contributing really well in my opinion even though they're in campaigns.

Such post belongs to Speculation board imo. You can report them to the mods and request the thread to be moved there. A lot of members may have thought that as long as there's "bitcoin" in the title, it is okay to post it on Bitcoin discussion board.

People who depends on others predictions, forecasts, tweets, chitchats for their investment decisions, will end with losses. They don't have their own perspective on what's going on with market, and market future; so if someone say market will move up, they will fall into FOMO; while if someone say market will crash in coming hours, they will fall into panic. How such people/ investors can get profits from market in the long run? The odds is nearly zero, IMO.

The answer to that problem is quite simple, make use of the report button, indicating that the topic has price speculation in it then it'll be moved to the speculation board by moderators. If you observe mainly lower ranked accounts (newbie/jnr member) are those who start those type of post.  Is either they don't know which board such type of posts belong to or simply alts starting topics which encourage generic spam so they can always use it to meet up their weekly post counts

No.  That would be a form of censorship that would set a very bad precedent here.  I hate that term "influencer", which makes me think of idiotic Youtubers who amass tons of followers and think they're gurus of some sort.  The folks you mentioned are just blowhards making price predictions, which is kind of standard for many asset classes.  That's not something I think ought to be banned, nor do I think Theymos is going to step in.  They're silly but they have a right to think what they want about where bitcoin is headed.

The whole Speculation section is somewhat pointless, because nobody really knows what the price of bitcoin is going to be in the future.  The section ought to instead be called Guesswork, because that's all it is.  But as long as that section exists, the guesswork posts will continue.

Tangentially related, should the Speculation board not be a sub of Bitcoin instead of a sub of Economy?  Speculation (Altcoins) is under the Alternate cryptocurrencies category, so why is Bitcoin's Speculation sub not under the Bitcoin category?  Maybe more users would notice it and post their threads in the right place if it was moved.

if it is a user posting those, i don't see any problem as long as they are in speculation board. maybe they are really interested in these self claimed "experts" opinions.
the biggest problem i see is those people who create a website, fill it with low quality content and then come here to advertise their links all over the forum, like coinpedia: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2592879;sa=showPosts
worse than that are those who start their topic by "i accidentally found this interesting article which i am sharing here" then when you check their post history 99% of it is links to that website!

Ok. Worded it wrong. I meant the posts should be deleted, not the posters to get banned. I didn't even notice that there's a 'speculation' subforum because these "predictions" are mostly in the Bitcoin Discussion and Beginners & Help section anyway.

Well I tend to agree. It's just pretty much every configuration of will bitcoin go to x y or z, but lets be honest, the fiat value of bitcoin is probably the biggest factor on why people are interested in bitcoin these days and as long as bitcoin is around people are going to be discussing the price of it.

It won't stop but it will significantly decrease. As long as bitcoin has been around people will discuss the price regardless of signature campaign or not. I think many campaigns don't even pay for posts in there either.

People just want some reassurance. I see it all the time with gamblers. I'm forever seeing twitchy gamblers asking people if they think x team will win or score more than x amount of goals because if they see someone else say what they want to hear it gives them some confidence and faux-reassurance that they're not throwing their money away. Same goes with bitcoin. Some people get a lot more excited when they hear some celebrity or C list amateur economist or investor say bitcoin is going to go to 100k or one million. I mean, it's meaningless because it doesn't actually mean anything but it still gives people that hope for the future that they want.

This news is used for pumping, FUD distribution, and other manipulations, in short as long as there is benefit from the analysis and provides information that can be considered correct it is OK.
The same thing I can create a topic that speaks that theymos advised not to invest your entire money in cryptocurrencies? Should It ban?

Agreed that it will only reduce spam intensity. Let's think about disable both signatures and merits in those boards. I meant if there is a very special rule that disable merit button, receive and send in those discussion boards, there are only pure and serious users whom want to discuss to join those boards.
Posters in those boards probably include three types:
- Spammers to hit post quota for their bounties
- People who want to spread FUDs and create some sort of effects on price (of bitcoin/ altcoins)
- Spammers who make funny, non-sense posts with hope that they will luckily get merits.

Disabling merit button, in those boards, like don't count posts or activity in some serious boards, will make sense.

I'd warn that whatever restrictions you put in Speculation will be an incomplete solution for spam.
I mean that at least the things OP started with

will simply continue in the Press subforum or in the Bitcoin Discussions.
The result will not be the containment of spam, instead it'll be even more mess.


I think that the spam issue can be fixed only together with the campaign owners/managers. Overall. Make some common sense rules that make spam - wherever it is - get discouraged. The campaigns that don't follow those rules would get temporarily or permanently disabled.

I think this forum has a bigger problems than a few threads about speculation of Bitcoin price. I've only seen a few such threads lately, but they are posted in Economic / Speculation board where they should be, and if anyone see such thread/s in Bitcoin Discussion is it too hard to report to moderator or OP to move such thread to proper board?

Speculation is just part of cryptocurrency, and I have nothing against those who are trying to predict something in long term as Tim Draper, but I do not like to see weekly speculation from Tom Lee or Max Keiser who are almost always wrong.

Maybe OP is lost some money by following such speculation, but it is completely unrealistic to ask bans for such things. Report it as spam, posting in wrong board or just ignore users who post such content.

Every forum has her thread where topic should be discussed upon. Price speculation should go to speculation board than creating unnessary anxiety in other forums. This forum is divided into different sections for easy identification and understanding of post
