Unknowingly La Liga has started again, between the first two matches, the one that caught my attention was the match between Real Betis versus Girona. I agree that Bilbao manager Valverde made mistake by not bringing in Nico Williams sooner to boost their attack. Getafe strong defense and midfield made it difficult for Bilbao to create scoring opportunities. Valverde late substitution was too little too late and Getafe well planned strategy deserved win. Despite not converting their chances Getafe showed impressive speed and pressure making them formidable opponent. I hope they maintain this level of performance to cause more upsets in future games.

I am hoping we have a great season ahead. I can’t wait to watch Barcelona and Madrid play because I wants to see how the title challenge will be as early as possible because I know that none of them will wants to drop any points soon by all means.

I quite agree with this because Bilbao in this match is the favorite and indeed the advantage of playing at home actually makes their confidence strong but it is indeed a bit regrettable with the draw in this match.

They played with good ball possession and from start to finish we could see that Bilbao continued to lock down Getafe but Getafe's defense was also quite solid actually so it was difficult for Bilbao to do more in today's match.

It's still early they are still not hot to make a breakthrough but with what happened last season for Bilbao, if they manage to keep up with the rotation of playing in La Liga and Europa League then I'm quite sure they can still be a stumbling block in La Liga this season.

My expectations for today are Athletic Bilbao to win and a draw in the Betis - Girona game. Keeping Williams in the team is really important. I think Athletic Bilbao will have another decent season.

I don't understand what strategy Valverde implemented because he benched Nico Williams and played him as a substitute. In fact, if you look at Nico Williams' big role, he can certainly trouble the opponent's defense if he is given the opportunity to play in the early minutes. Of course this is a big loss for Bilbao because in the first match they wasted the opportunity to get 3 points because they were playing at home and were also able to dominate the game but in the end they had to share the results with Getafe.

Sometimes being the favorite in a game can change only when the manager had to make some decisions that he felt would be the best for the team, if Nico had started the game I believe 20'mins of the first half would have been the only time the Getafe team would have said they had a chance because the boy has a lot of energy to take on defenders and create chances for the team but Valverde still thinks Nico is still on holidays, keeping him on the bench is like he wants to try something without him. Playing against Atalanta is always difficult in defense because Atalanta are strong in attacking and they shown it in the Super Cup match with Real Madrid. Real Madrid are stronger on paper and actually shown it on field and successfully won over Atalanta. Atalanta lost this match but they have nothing to regret after performed well in the first half and had chance to get an opening goal in early of second half. One Europa League title, one chance to play in European Super Cup, that is great experience and milestone for their club history.

Alaba will need some more time to get his best back after injury last season and Real Madrid still have time in this summer to bring one or two more defensive players to their club. Getafe strong defense and midfield made it difficult for Bilbao to create scoring opportunities. Valverde late substitution was too little too late and Getafe well planned strategy deserved win. Despite not converting their chances Getafe showed impressive speed and pressure making them formidable opponent. I hope they maintain this level of performance to cause more upsets in future games.

A rare performance shown by Getafe against Bilbao. Getafe had little possession of the ball. But, they were interesting with it against Bilbao. They also defended well from our attack. And i was not expecting we have difficulty beating Getafe at San Mames. I hate to see Getafe get a deserved point from it cuz it makes my bet collapse.

Also, i think we threw the game away with their midfield substitutions. And it was killing our mid, which is also helping Getafe to leave slowly from the pressure. This is not what i was hoping to see the draw on the opening week of La Liga.

And last, I'm very disappointed with Bilbao benching Nico.

 Right now Atletico Bilbao seem a bit shaky, making mistakes and looking like they have lost the confidence they began with in the first half and if care is not taken, Getafe may take the lead and if that should happen, it will be disastrous and disappointing because they have managed to go 19 games at home without a loss so losing will break that record and they will have to start the beginning of the season with a loss and if you ask me, that's not a good way to start.

Bilbao had to be satisfied with sharing points with Getafe. Although this result doesn't seem like a surprising result because most meetings between these two teams always result in a draw. And it happens over and over again. I don't understand it. But usually Bilbao can always show more quality than this but against Getafe they always can't do much. But getting 1 point is not a bad start but it is not good enough.  

Now Betis' match against Girona is underway and the second half will start again in the next few minutes. but the score shows that Betis is still ahead with a score of 1-0. It seems like Girona haven't found their best form yet.

I think Getafe are more satisfied with the draw than the hosts because you could see how elated they were when the ref blew the whistle to signal the end of the game. Anyways, let's just chalk their performance as a warm up for the both sides being that it's their first game of the season and it's normal for these things to happen.

In all, it was a very entertaining game for a season opener as the two sides gave as good as they got but I'm hoping we'd see something better from the two sides in their next respective games.

Since a few days ago I have said several times regarding the match that it is riskier to bet on Bilbao or Getafe victory. From previous meetings and looking at H2H it is very clear that these two teams if they meet on the field will definitely give each other resistance and Bilbao has only been able to win 1x. Athletic Bilbao lost 2 points by drawing with Getafe and I hope this shock will bring them back to their senses. Getafe maintained this by drawing with Uche and they left the match with 1 point. I think this was a right move as much as they were happy because Bilbao was clearly a superior team to Getafe. The other match in La Liga was between Betis and Girona, Girona forced a draw in the 72nd minute and the match ended in a draw. I think Girona will be further away this year than last year
