Surprised no one else brought this up yet but Canaan is possibly going to announce a 3 board design of the 1041 likely called 1066 later this month for October release.

initial spec (not final): 50ths, 3200w.

I saw an email where Steve said he had plans to announce a new miner in October. Is that what this is? Makes sense for them to have a more dense unit as well, but I was excited to see something entirely new again. Spoiled by all the launches this year i guess.

@steamtyme

Yep,
the email was about the A1066.

They are joining in the '>3 kW unit game'.

I need one or more for testing.

Their a1041 is pretty nice for home mining.

my hope is it is a two speed  and the low speed is like 31/37 for the a1041   that would be 42/50 for the a1066  and it would be quiet for the home. miner on the low speed.

I sent an email  mentioning this thread. Maybe Steve will post some good info here for us.

Okay, was definitely a logical step to have the same product offerings as everyone else. I'll just have to wait for the 11** for something entirely different.

It's hard to get excited about LPM when if you need it the pricing isn't something you can overcome. You have to give up a lot of hashrate for most machines running it. I would still like to see Canaan bring out a first to market product efficiency wise. The reliability has always been great, but with how fast things seem to move they just outlive their profitability. I missed out on grabbing the 1041 as it launched shortly after I had upgraded everything, but we'll see how things go in the next 6 months.

Depends on what Lpm does.

If you drop from 56th to 29th like the whatminers m21s the low speed is a wait til next year option

If you drop from 37th to 31th like the Avalon a1041 with decent power per th savings it is a viable option at about 8 to 11 cent power.

I would sit and calculate the math but I am on the iPad not the pc.

There is a price per kwatt that the a1041 is just as good on low speed as top speed.
There is not one on the whatsminer m21s.

If someone wants to play with numbers to show the right price per kwatt. It would be nice.

the a841 was a good machine that did not outlive itself  too quickly.

Right around $0.10 per KWh.

thank you  I was on my ipad and it was harder to do.

my ballpark 8 to 11 cents a kwatt  was fairly close.

I could really use  5 or more  a1066's  set to lpm  if they did 42th at 2400 watts  vs  50th at 3200 watts

I am still short gear for   the Clifton build.   Prices are nuts  wait time is crazy.

Maybe I can get some of these to help fill the center in.

If these do 3200/50 =  64 watts a th at high  and say 2400/42 = 57 watts at high I would grab some.

That would make sense since the those #s give the same efficiency as the a1041. Question is will the $/TH be lower than the a1041.

Yeah it did hold on nicely, mine was still pulling a small profit when I donated it. It really came down the commands that helped dial in it's efficiency. The fact that everything came to a grinding halt last year helped a lot of gear extend their lifespan.

You are right about there being a point where the earnings equal out (10.7 cents). This becomes a whole other ballgame though if you aren't selling instantly as you mine, kind of the same as when people mine at a loss. Then there's the point that I wouldn't recommend people buy new gear to mine near 10 cents, tough spot to ever see an ROI.

If these do 3200/50 =  64 watts a th at high  and say 2400/42 = 57 watts at high "low" I would grab some.
I think you meant low on the second set of numbers. Did you and/or Buysolar look at going out to their Customer Conference in October?

Yes that is correct. 57 watts on low speed.

Buysolar was pricing tickets. He has ask Steve of Canaan a few questions about it.

Not sure we go.  Me most likely no. Buysolar is maybe.

$1600 for October batch (if you take 60+ units). Nice price....

Does not mention a low power mode in the specs though.

The price seems off to me. I would have loved to get in on the action but ever since the crypto scene has started getting scrutiny in India, getting a crypto-miner into the country.

I have access to electricity as cheap as $0.08 @Phillip can you confirm if, hypothetically speaking, could make a decent ROI on this if someone bought it at $1700? I'm assuming the $100 extra because that's the least avg price required for shipping & stuff.

Hey Legendster, noticed you around but not so much in mining. You could confirm this for yourself as well. Maybe I got your background wrong, but here is a good place to start when thinking about getting into mining. First time/Small miner reference for getting started.

To answer your question generally their distributors are at least close to if not priced the same as the Canaan website. Looking at a profitability calculator for you, as mentioned in the thread above here's your current daily earnings. Currently you are looking at a profit of 6.12$ per day

So if it ships in October that's about 8 weeks away let's say 4 Diff adjustments. By then we might be something like 15-20% higher. Not sure how much gear is rolling out but I believe we are looking to continue to hit new ATH in Hashrate

So that's maybe more like 5$ a day profit which is still good. With a stable diff that leaves 340 days before you begin to ROI. Now that scenario is not going to happen, Diff will adjust and the Halving will take place before that. Then who knows hat price may do to change your daily earnings by then. Mining is always a tough gamble, and is a long term slow return generally.

I was somewhat active in mining way back in 2012 when I didn't have a profile here. And by active I meant I read.
I started off early in 2012 with mining on my PC through some small pools and then I think I moved to Bitminter later on, that was as long as cpu mining was profitable. For me that was until around the last few months of 2012. Then in 2013 I started digging into FPGA boards : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=172068.10;

I commissioned a local hardware training institute to build one for me, spend a few hundred usds with them, didn't get any results. Then after a major even in my life I found myself penniless. Ever since then I have only tried to get back into the mining scene. Almost did so back when the D3 launched for Dash, but I chose to broker some units instead of risking to mine myself. And that's pretty much all of my history with mining.

I can still get access to cheap electricity here, like I said earlier, but where I live right now, rates are $0.14 something.

I keep trying to hook people up into the mining scene and since I have been involved with cryptos for a long time, every time someone new to crypto meets me, they ask me about mining and its ROI. Keeping up to date with experienced users like what @Phillip and others share makes things a lot easier for me.

But what is the extent of the possible bitcoin ban in India? Does it include mining? or simply bringing coins? Have You considered the other asic miners? Given your borderline electricity price you want the most efficient unit, not necessarily the one with the biggest TH/s (in fact always divide watts with TH to get the most efficient one).

If you do this math for this unit it gives 64, which is a tad higher than other units. take a look at the M20 and S17, seek the most efficient miner even if it means running at half hashrate.

Perhaps setting your miner in a different country with cheaper electricity would be more wise.

He is in a country that has banned some crypto activity.

If I was his financial advisor I would tell him to not bring gear into India 🇮🇳.

The risks may be too high to be worth while.

Looks like November batch is open for small orders for $1450.

https://canaan.io/product/avalonminer-1066-november-batch/

edit: it could just be a glitch on their web page. The main page still says the site is for bulk purchases only.

Anyone get their Nov. batch 1066s delivered yet?

I'm still waiting on a shipping notice for my order from Blokforge. They responded to a request from me about the status of the order 3 days ago saying the miners were on route to them from China.

Doesn't look too good. On top of being late, the S17 pros I ordered were about the same price as these and I already have them. Would be nice of them to at least send out some coupons to compensate. If they reduce prices on the 11 series to be more competitive with Bitmain and issue some coupons I'd order some. But right now you can get a S17+ for less than the 1166 and get it a month earlier. I'd pay a bit of a premium for the Canaan gear over Bitmain, but not that much.

Did they come direct from Canaan? I still have not received a shipping notice from Blokforge on my 1066 order.

Meanwhile, my Dec. batch S17 order just shipped, and I received $800 credit per S17 that I used to get more S17 pros that are already hashing.

Yeah  we can get them direct form Canaan.  But they were not cheap 2600 + 620 = 3220  for 2  50th units ..

Meanwhile  2 17 pro  are 1401 + 1401 = 2802 + 200 shipping = 3002  - 280 coupon = 2720  + ? trump tax  depends if Malaysia could be 100 so 2820 for 2 s17 pro at best

to 3450 at worst.   but the s17 pro is far more efficient.  I have to drive to buysolar's in a few minutes time.  I will post unboxing.

Anybody have a picture what the individual hashboards look like on these (or other 1xxx series)?

I want to know if the heatsinks are still removable, for water cooling application. Can't find pics on the internet.

I have an Avalon 1066 device and it worked 50 before the firmware update, but after changing the firmware to the latest version available on the site, it reached 40.

What should I do now? Does anyone have the old firmware?

@Phil
I found this product page for PSU3300-01 at the AplusPower company website: http://www.aplus-powersupply.com/products/bitcoin_powersupply/3300w-12-14v-power-supply-avalon-a1066/

According to AplusPower this model is compatible both with A1066 and A1066 Pro.

Maybe the 3600-01 is an improved version of the PSU3300-01 model ?

it is the same company.

I most likely would need to flash my A1066 as an A1066pro

then run it on low speed.  but. the seller has told me that only the PSU2600-01 is available both the psu 3300-01 and the psu3600-01 are sold out.

So a problem with the 'newer' gear. is no available repair parts.

I have no way to replace any parts on my 4 'newer' Avalons

A1041 2 owned both good.
A1066 2 owned with 1 dead psu

I do have 1 spare s17 pro controller
and 2 spare  s17 pro psu's

I have no replacement parts for my t17+ or t17e

We have 1 s19pro on order due in Jan.

All this brings to the following point.

If you order gear from Avalon or any other builder of gear order some parts.

Ie 5 new A1246 ordered means get some fans at least 1 controller and at least 1 psu.
