In order for a certain technology to propagate, there should be a widespread information campaigns and seminars.  This may take sometime and a huge amount of budget but I believe it worth it.  The question is who will be the one to do such task.

Smartphones.. yes almost every capable teenager wanted to have a mobile phone.  Having technology integrated in this will certainly brings this technology nearer to the prospected audience.  Mobile phone is one strong tool for adoption.

There is nothing more annoying than a non-user friendly apps.  One of the reason why most invention failed because they failed to make them user friendly.

I could add one more, government acceptance and support.  Anyone can create great idea, technology and inventions but without government acceptance and support it will be a hard road for adoption.  The government saying yes is like a house with open door which means, adoption, development and adaption will be much easier   because there is someone with stronger power will support the  project.

Bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general will grow despite:

1. People not knowing how blockchain technology works just as they do not know how money really works. They only need to know how to spend it. Creating and exploring Facebook is much more complicated than using a Bitcoin wallet. And besides, it is always either you bend or you break. That is one truth in life.

2. It is not Bitcoin that needs to adjust; the smartphones do.

3. Cryptocurrency development is a very complicated thing and only selected individuals around the world are capable enough to get involved in it. The rest do not need to know, much less learn, crypto development. As I've said, people only need to learn how to spend and perhaps keep it securely. Well a choice of wallet may take care of it. Crypto is much easier to use actually. They don't even need to count the change or do mathematics every time one spends, unlike with fiat.

1. This is a natural supposed to be known fact that innovators should naturally know. Nothing would become famous if no one even bothered to know how to use something after all
2. Integration with technology is a yes, but it shouldn't be generalized to smartphones. You never know when technology could create eyeglasses that have cellphone UI's in them that can be controlled using some kind of external mouse that can be outfitted in your palm or something similar. It can be pretty much summed up that any innovation in the current world would most likely be connected to technology.
3. Its pretty simple to be fair. Its just that people are too ignorant on how to use it. Of course its development could be wuite complicated but if its just usage, then anyone who could study it enought should know its basics.

I fully agree on the potential of smartphones towards widespread use and acceptance of Bitcoin, cryptocurrency in general and the blockchain technology. Tied to the popularity of smartphones is the coming revolution of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) which can be synergistically working with the blockchain and cryptocurrency as well. In short, the smartphone can be acting like a hub for the user to access all of these technologies and developments.

And when we are talking about education, things can now be simplified as more and more people are carrying smartphones. Now, we actually don't need (though it can be a good advantage) for people to fully understand cryptocurrency beyond the basics or the "what's-in-it-for-me" level what is important is that people understand how they can participate in cryptocurrency and how they can claim their stake on it.

Any new technology that can game-changing will always have a learning curve and can face resistance on the market but after getting around the critical mass level things will be changing. I am expecting the same thing can happen with the blockchain and cryptocurrency especially with Bitcoin.

Cryptocurrency is not your typical paper money, there is a technology behind it and a process for transaction.  It is not just handing over just like paper money.  I can't imagine someone handing his mobile phone to the seller because he has a digital money on it.  Or his crypto card due to the same case.  In short there should be some awareness campaign, or tutorial on how to transfer the digital currency.

I live in a third world country and obviously, not all of our people know how to use smartphones. Being in a Facebook post is a big thing for them, they are still not waking up to new technologies since they are still in the place where they are used to what they have. If they can't use smartphones, I don't think they will be able to use the internet and without those two, they can't participate in the future of digital money. I think you forgot to emphasize the importance of achieving  merchant adoption first - which in essence, is a critical factor on achieving  total mass adoption and without it, usage of cryptocurrencies would only be restricted to a select few and will eventually falter.

As with the case in my country, assuming we could have at least 5 merchant adoptions everyday like convenience stores, groceries, gas stations, supermarkets, coffee shops, restaurants.etc. which, in a span of  2 years, it might produce a vibrant crypto economy allowing the crypto industry to further flourish.

Both options are possible for cryptocurrencies. The integration of cryptos into smartphones is already a thing, and the payment system could be perfected to become useful for people. However, there are bigger issues when it comes to cryptocurrencies. These issues are related to a number of transactions the network can perform per second. Partnerships using banks as a third party will be needed. We all know that if we use digital money to buy goods in any shops we still need to convert it to fiat. It will be useless if crypto is a non-convertible asset to cash in this era. But if we get the full adoption in the cryptocurrency, having banks as the third party will not be needed anymore. We will be free to buy any goods using digital money.

For now such partnerships with banks and other fiat gateways couldn't be avoided since we still need cash but assuming we have achieved a full blown crypto mass adoption over a span of several years then there is no need to utilize fiat money as a medium of payment anymore and thus it would now become obsolete and useless.

In my opinion, only after the first 2 points are achieved, can we get full-wide merchant adoption, right now, BTC is either too unstable or too new, or too hard to use for some merchants, and once that barrier gets eliminated, it'll be very easy for merchants to just pick up BTC as a payment adoption.

It is very important it does happen though, and we need to see more explanations and the older generation more interested in the currency and utilising it before we can ever hope for full adoption.

I agree with you. Things will get easy if the government would accept cryptocurrency. If the government would approve the adoption of Bitcoin, it would be easy to pursue its goal as a digital currency. Well, if you add simplification, that there is no real need to know advanced technology. Most people already know how to use a smartphone, and crypto will eventually get to the point where there are supporting features in every phone. The first step would be to regulate it, and work on tech simplification. There are already blockchain-based phones, but they did not do so well due to the lack of interest. With regulations, tech will be able to advance faster, and exposure would arrive as well. Not to mention that a lot of people know about crypto but hesitate to approach it due to the lack of regulation, which causes them to think it a scam.

I would like to add on your list some factors to consider before the world shifts the fiat system to digital currencies in the future:

• Acceptability - the world cannot just shift to a digital currency if the governments of some country do not accept it as the new medium of exchange;
• Adaptability - due to economic discrepancies among developed, developing, and underdeveloped countries, this would significantly prejudice countries who have different priorities regarding their current economic and financial state;
• Technology of the medium - if the world were to shift to a digital currency, it must agreed upon what kind of currency would they reproduce. Since everything that exists in the internet is subject to scams and hacks, the technology behind the currency must be absolute and unalterable for the convenience of everyone.

I think you forgot to emphasize the importance of achieving  merchant adoption first - which in essence, is a critical factor on achieving  total mass adoption and without it, usage of cryptocurrencies would only be restricted to a select few and will eventually falter.

As with the case in my country, assuming we could have at least 5 merchant adoptions everyday like convenience stores, groceries, gas stations, supermarkets, coffee shops, restaurants.etc. which, in a span of  2 years, it might produce a vibrant crypto economy allowing the crypto industry to further flourish.

In my opinion, only after the first 2 points are achieved, can we get full-wide merchant adoption, right now, BTC is either too unstable or too new, or too hard to use for some merchants, and once that barrier gets eliminated, it'll be very easy for merchants to just pick up BTC as a payment adoption.

You have a point but I think they can go side by side with merchant adoption and not be a prerequisite with one another. But of course, the first factor is the most important among the two, though I guess ordinary people doesn't really have to understand the inner workings of blockchain technology and its technicalities as this are mostly presented with abstraction with different technologies like web wallets and mobile wallets, block explorers, etc.,  -all of which are presented in a neat and comprehensible way to ordinary users with less technical know-how. Additionally, we don't really need to learn these technicalities on how blockchain works before we can use these apps.

I guess we all just need some basic understanding of blockchain technology and an intuitive and user friendly interfaces for these kinds of crypto applications. Moreover, without these abstractions, blockchain tech and cryptocurrency will have a very high degree of learning barrier, which I'm afraid, mass adoption is near to impossible but look at us now, the number of crypto enthusiasts are growing everyday, thanks to all the developers who had contributed so much in this industry.

Here in the Philippines it is easy to use bitcoin because of the company called coins.ph where we can send bitcoin to other coins.ph bitcoin wallet in seconds. In this regard, we need more infrastructure to support our day to day transactions in cryptocurrency. I've experience this, but not too bad, since what I just need to do is to check my balance on my blockchain wallet, what I've did is to try to connect outside. The first thing for me to consider is global economic stability and elimination and mitigation of poverty especially in third-world countries. If corrupt practices are eliminated, with good governance, decrease in poverty would follow, and all would follow, from technology to education. Yes, but only a few people who are using crypto until now. People in our there still don't know about crypto because they don't read the news about crypto itself, and they still busy with their jobs.
