Well i think long term invesment is a good way to earn big money. But i think if buying alt coin as long term invesment its not gonna worth for the time. You should pick btc and buy a lot (if you rich xD). Im sure bitcoin will survive in next 2-3 years from now.

for some good projects, it is not bad to buy coins that are just listed on the exchange. I often do that but not for the long term. only for daily trading and not save more than 2 days. some projects that have strict regulations for bounty distribution usually have better and stronger markets. because most new coins that do not have a strong market when the bounty distribution is made will decline.

I would say that long term (like you said, two to five years) may be suitable with established coins such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. But I am not sure about going for the long-term strategy with the tokens. With these emerging projects, you need to review your strategy every couple of months. I am saying this because long-term didn't worked well for me with the smaller coins and tokens.

And I think you can used your capital more in investing in other crypto activity when you do an short term investment so I think it is better rather than long term investment.
