Hoteliers can’t find suitable HMS

Despite the rapid development of the hospitality industry, finding and deploying a capable HMS remains a significant problem for hotel owners. The absolute majority of the currently available hotel management systems are not designed with expansion or new technology in mind. This project is designed to be world wide accepted. Hotel pays fees in a local currency, they don't have to manually convert fiat curency into tokens. This is done automatically by the platform, therefore the crypto regulation does not matter.

Why do not hotels use AI?

The vast majority of hotel businesses can’t use AI and Cognitive Computing. This is due to the high cost of infrastructure, the lack of qualified staff. Budgets also need to be made available for system maintenance and time allocated for system installation, implementation and integration with existing infrastructure.

For example, we can take the data from one of the surveys. Almost all respondents (91 per cent) anticipate significant barriers to adoption. The majority predict roadblocks due to lack of IT infrastructure (40 per cent), followed by a lack of in-house talent (34 per cent). Just as many, 33 per cent, claim that AI technology available today is too unproven and nascent, while 30 per cent yearn for more budget.

What role does the token play in the ModiHost project?


The main role of the ModiHost token is to secure contractual obligations between the hotel and the platform, so when the hotel buys services on the platform, the proper reward for it is sent the right way.

How does the ModiHost platform work?

1. The HMS application on the hotel’s side generates a service request to ModiHost and sends a transaction identifier, information about the requested service and its price in the hotel’s currency.

2. After making the request, the ModiHost system:

 • determines the token equivalent for the price;
 • determines the reward for the service;
 • sends the transaction identifier to a pool and requests the number of tokens needed to complete the operation;
 • sends the transaction identifier and the required amount of tokens to the target deposit account.

 3. Token movement within the platform.

If the amount of tokens is enough, the platform sends the required amount and the transaction ID to the Escrow contract along with the information about the number of tokens sent to ModiHost. If there are not enough tokens, the platform takes the available tokens from the pool along with the ID and sends it to the Escrow contract along with the information about the number of tokens sent to ModiHost. ModiHost requests tokens from pools one by one until the request is fully served.

How do hotels receive the required service from ModiHost?

Ø After receiving the data from ModiHost and the required amount of tokens from a pool, after checking the number of tokens the smart contract sends a service fee request to the hotel, while the pool also gets a reward from the Escrow smart contract.

Ø The hotel then sends the service fee + pool reward to the Escrow smart contract.

Ø In its turn, the smart contract sends the required amount of tokens along with the identifier to the ModiHost platform, which later provides the hotel with the requested service.

Ø ModiHost provides the hotel with services, informs the smart contract about delivering the services and returns the tokens to the smart contract handling the transaction.

Ø The smart contract handling the transaction sends the tokens and the pool reward to the pool as well as the payment for using the ModiHost platform.

All the operations and transactions are through; the hotel is enjoying the services it was provided, ModiHost receives the reward and continues providing services to other hotels!

Today we would like to introduce our project’s CTO – Krish Mahajan. He has a BSc. in Information Technology from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He majored in Economics and Computer Science but also devoted his spare time conquering Web-Development, Applications Development, Social Network Theories and Practice, Algorithms and the Implementation of Big-Data Processing.

After graduation, he became involved in setting up and launching UPI (Unified Payments Interface) and UPI 2.0 for the Bharat BillPay system for the National Payments Corporation of India. The NPCI is an initiative of the Reserve Bank of India and the Indian Banks’ Association.

UPI facilitates remote payment of utility bills across India and handled over 150 million transactions in its first month of operation.

Anticipating guest wishes

Madrid has recently seen an exciting project presented at the Fitur tourism fair. A luxury room prototype, equipped with AI. The hotel of the future will have sensors and cameras everywhere, collecting data about the guest and analyzing his behaviour and suggesting more personalized, relevant offers.

The technology will allow hotel employees to anticipate exactly what guests may need before the guest even figures out what they want. It means knowing when to serve coffee – thanks to sensors under the mattress signalling the staff that the guest got up. The AI algorithm even considers various cuisine preferences. For example, in anticipation of a large group of tourists from England, it can notify the hotel restaurant to order an additional batch of bacon in advance.

The project of a futuristic hotel was created in Spain, at the Institute of hotel technologies in cooperation with a French company Altran specializing in automating traditional industries. The hotel will have a tracking beacon that will monitor guests’ smartphones location – something several European countries have banned. How age affects hotel choice

Let’s take a step back from the current situation in the world and look into the hotel preferences of various age groups.

We’ll split our potential clients into the following categories:

The Silent Generation – born before 1946 (age 74+)

Baby boomers – those born between 1946-1965 (age 54-75)

Generation X – people born between 1966-1980 (age 40-54)

Generation Y / Millennials – those born between 1981-2000 (age 20-39).

Chain hotels

People across all age groups prefer staying at large chain hotels.

Economy hotels

Only 12% of baby boomers and 13% of the Silent Generation say they would prefer staying at an economy hotel. The number of millennials (19%) and Generation X (16%) who prefer saving on accommodation is also low.

Mid-range hotels

Almost 72% of the Silent Generation and 69% of boomers prefer staying at mid-range hotels. 61% of Gen X and 60% millennials follow suit.

Luxury hotels

Age is the factor when it comes to the luxury market. Generation X and millennials approve of staying at expensive hotels (22 and 21% respectively), while the Silent Generation (15%) and baby boomers (19%) are less inclined to book an expensive luxury suite.

Have We Seen This Before?

Today we decided to look into the question of how unique the events surrounding the coronavirus are and whether or not the hospitality industry has been through something similar before.

We’ve got an answer: nothing of this scale has ever happened, but the industry has already gone through a very similar course of events more than once. In the past decade, hoteliers have had their fair share of headwind: the avian flu pandemic, Ebola outbreak, and atypical pneumonia. For example, the Asia-Pacific region went through a similar crisis during the atypical pneumonia outbreak in 2002 and has gained some experience with business processes in the time of crisis.

By the way, to cope with the crisis, some half of hotels in the region have introduced “premium service”, as an incentive for guests who didn’t cancel their booking, allowing them to rebook to a different date within a year at a discount, or providing improved conditions for the airport-hotel-airport transfer.

It is just one example of the hospitality industry facing such crises. The point is: the industry has survived such things in the past. Crisis times never last!

By the way, China has already reported a 30% increase in hotel occupancy rates, albeit driven by domestic tourism in the economy segment (1-2*). People are tired emotionally and want to travel. So experts advise beginning to prepare for the increase in demand as soon as now. Smart pricing, rates and marketing policies can facilitate a quick and effective recovery.
