We are all aware that phishing scams and emails are very dangerous nowadays. This is indeed a good news that such social media companies like Instagram are creating a useful tools to identify such phishing scams.

There are so many scammers trying to fool users by sending emails posing as an Instagram.

Quote
Heads up: Today, we’re launching a new feature to help people identify phishing emails claiming to be from Instagram. This account security feature (accessed through Settings) allows anyone to check if an email claiming to be from Instagram is genuine.

Here's how you can enable it through an apps or in a desktop version:

Quote
To enable the tool you could head to app Settings>Security. There will now appear 'Emails from Instagram', which will have two new tabs in it. One will display all the emails sent to a user in the last two weeks related to account security and login, while the other will show all emails sent by the company not related to account security during the same time period.

They could improve it by adding additional code at the end of every mail that's unique to every user (and they can change it if they wanted to). IIRC Kucoin did this. It's useful for detecting a fake e-mail as long as the e-mail provider is not compromised.

I really had some expectations about this security feature but....

Quote
Heads up: Today, we’re launching a new feature to help people identify phishing emails claiming to be from Instagram. This account security feature (accessed through Settings) allows anyone to check if an email claiming to be from Instagram is genuine.

99% of the people who are tricked by phishing emails don't even bother to check who the sender is, they would click the links even if the sender is Elvis Presley.
Really expected something more high-tech, not a log in a menu four taps away.

Probably a small alert in the Instagram app, a small red ! in the corner which pressed would inform the user that he has no emails from Instagram and he shouldn't trust anything, which would turn green and alert when a real one is sent.

This is how it will work:

1. Go to settings and click on the security tab. There will be an option to see "Emails from Instagram."

2. One tab labelled security will show you a list of emails the company sent you.

3. The "other" tab will display emails Instagram sent that aren't related to security issues.

4. According to Instagram, users shouldn't click on a link in an email that appears to be from the company, if they can't verify.

This method will allow users to check which emails were legitimate and which were not in the last 14 days but how will it prevent the damage ?
The end user may already have clicked on the links through their emails ?  Isn't ?
Not everyone will come here first and check if this email is right or wrong.   (As i understand this)

This new feature should be enabled by default. Nobody will go and enable it manually especially if we are talking to all those lazy guys let alone those who will read the announcement will be just handful of people.
Only those who got already tricked will benefit from the new feature.
Sadly, the level of ignorance is rising as we speak.

Sounds really great.
Any additional security is good thing. I mean when first 2FA were introduced only banks used it. WHY? I mean, many people have personal attachment to their accounts with history like on this forum for example. Almost every website should allow people to use 2FA. I like to keep my accounts secure, always 2FA when possible because why not? Its not problematic at all, only addiotional safety. In Bitcoin world every website with account must have 2FA.
