Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I've given him red trust...

Lucky for you, it was only 0.003 BTC, but take this as a lesson: don't trust anybody blindly on this forum... People on here will scam for less than $1 if you give them the chance.

There are some reputable escrows on bitcointalk, and eventough i would never advise anybody to follow/trust them blindly, you should use their services whenever you're trading with somebody new, or with somebody without trade experience, or with somebody with a shady rep. Well, actually, it doesn't hurt if you use them for about any deal you make on the forum...

are you still gonna pursue the guy? if not, you should request to ban the account. just a piece of extra information, areyoudonut1 is an alt of donut1234 (which also has a neg trust)
he's the one who provided 1 merit to areyoudonuts1 (link). with this information, you have enough evidence to request a ban for both of the accounts. to request a ban, make a thread in Meta

I've read somewhere in the forum that giving merit to your alt is illegal? also, I thought the fact that the account in question was a scammer that it would amount for it to
be banned. if in any way I made a mistake and judge too quickly I will take it back and delete my post.

You didn't judge to quickly, after reviewing the proof OP has posted is rather clear to me that the odds areyoudonuts1 is a scammer are pretty high.
However, scamming is NOT a bannable offence on this forum...

To tell you the truth, I have no idear if sending merit to your alt is bannable, but i'm pretty sure it's not very high on Theymos's priority list. IF you'd be able to use this merit abuse to prove areyoudonuts1 is an alt of a banned user, things do change (since ban evasion is a bannable offence).

For now, i think red tagging or creating a flag against areyoudonuts1 are the only viable options to warn other people for areyoudonuts1.

It doesn't say that's against the rules, let alone worthy of a ban. Note that a global moderator is suggesting to create a thread in Reputation, presumably for DT members to evaluate, not to report to moderators. Scams are not moderated either. There is no basis for a ban in this case. Rules are here. Most violations don't lead to a ban, not immediately anyway.

I see it was a mistake for me to suggest for the account of areyoudonuts1 to be banned. I supposed red-tagging or a red flag the account like what mocacinno
suggested would be the best action. I will be deleting the post suggesting for the account of areyoudonuts1 to be banned. anyway thank you for further informing
about merit rules. I will try to be better in future.

Sorry for your loss but why did you make a deal with a lower rank account who isn't active enough on forum. After joining this forum it was your responsibility to know which users are enough trusted and with whom you can make your transaction or deal. Maybe you were less careful about this matter and for this reason scammer got the chance to steal your fund.
