Since BTC was the first to be created, the ones created after that are called altcoins(alternative coins). I can not generalize the difference between them, you will learn it yourself as time goes by. |

So bitcoin is the parent of altcoin or other coins. |

Forget about money making first 2. Spend some times on past histories of bitcoin and altcoins, it will help alot 3. Understand what demands and supply means, try to know what keeps those coins alive 4. Ignore any money doubling offers, there is no such thing as free on the internet, no matter how genuine they seem its all lies 5. Crypto requires hardworking and learning |

So simply put: Alt = Alternate And together it is alternate cryptocurrency, called altcoin. |

Bitcoin was the first decentralized, digital coin first introduced in cryporcurrency for transaction. I can say bitcoin is the father of cryptocurrency while altcoin is an alternative coin created after bitcoin and the price is also influenced by the price of bitcoin.

That's it in a nutshell, and I couldn't have stated it more succinctly. Op, you need to be aware that the vast majority of altcoins (everything that isn't bitcoin) are pure crap and aren't worth owning. You ought to take a look at coinmarketcap.com and look at some of the coins with the highest market cap, ie, the total value of all of a particular coin that's on the market. Usually the rankings on there are a good indicator of a coin's 'quality' but not always. Tether is very high on the rankings but it's a stable coin and in my eyes it isn't worth owning. Tokens aren't really altcoins because they don't have their own blockchain. They exist on the Ethereum platform usually, and in my opinion most of them were created by scammers. |

What is the difference between Bitcoin and altcoin in more detail I think it is an easy question and you definitely can find out the answer only by googling or using "search feature" in this forum. Even if you are a newbie or beginner, I suggest you try to find out yourself first before asking.  |

That's the people nature whoever do first will always be remember, unlike the one follows after that. For me not much difference in terms of tech since altcoins have known their tech or idea from bitcoin basically same use cases. But altcoin can be modified on usage they wanted to like incorporate in different real world situations. |

Anything else that is not Bitcoin or has a Bitcoin in its name but is not Bitcoin is an altcoin. That is the most basic difference. That is why they are called altcoins because they are alternative cryptocurrencies. Alternative to Bitcoin in other words. Bitcoin is used as a currency, a mode of payment that can be used instead of fiat. Altcoins have different purposes. Some are used for their own ecosystem, some are made for the sake of privacy, and some are used for gambling. |

No offense mate but what are you asking is a little bit broad. Did you even try first to make a research about it? I advice you to do it own your own first because some of the members here don't tolerate spoonfeeding . Anyway, let me give my own answer for your question. Bitcoin and altcoins both fall as cryptocurrency. Let's just say that btc is the pioneer and the rest is a copycat (but some of them really got interesting features tho which btc don't have). |
