Do you think if they accepted a certain crypto for payments of their service would it make it explode and be beneficial to them in any sort of way?

How can a payment method that is adopted by just a few percents of the population make a service like Disney+ explode? Disney+ will get more users in a few days than Bitcoin did in 11 years. When Steam and Fiverr dropped Bitcoin support, they didn't suffer and observable drop in revenue. Perhaps we should be asking how would Disney+'s adoption of Bitcoin affect its popularity as a currency and the price?

Also, going back to Disney+, they have to comply with a lot of regulations and as the result they don't operate in a lot of countries, including mine. If this wasn't the case, Bitcoin could have helped them to connect with audiences that can't conveniently buy their services otherwise.

I don't think that accepting crypto as a method of payment would impact a business in a major way, but it would certainly gain quite a bit in sales and will acquire a kind of advantage over the competition aka Netflix and HBO Go.

Obviously is in all our best interest that more and more companies adopt BTC and cryptocurrencies, but I think the catalyst will be the Bakkt consumer appvina and Stsrbucks partnership.

Disney is already successful even without any cryptocurrency involvement. To be honest they don't have to adopt cryptocurrency since they're already doing well in the industry. Since they hold a lot of popular movies that we grew up in our childhood. But once they will adopt crypto, it can help to boost and encourage more customers especially crypto enthusiasts.

This. It's the second-tier orgs that need to offer crypto to gain themselves a few headlines. A bit like Overstock offered crypto payments to help get them in the news as they struggle to take on Amazon.

There is no point for them to accept crypto, maybe .001% of people would buy based on them accepting crypto. I am not saying they wouldn't get normal purchases with crypto, but these people would have bought the service with fiat anyway. So there is really no need for them to accept since it will only complicate things.

What I meant was make the certain crypto they choose to use make it become more widely accepted thus increase its use not the platform disney has created.
My apologies for not making this point clear as others have read my statement this way too from the other informative feedback here has suggested.
Also someone did mention a disney division had dabbled in cryptocurrency with the coin dragonchain which I had heard of but did not know they had any involvement with. Will need to do some further research in the project to see if they plan on using it with their main business and not just experiment with it.

But with their service their customers get way more then just the movies. They receive the extras as well from what they would get if they bought the bluray version for how ever much the movie costs online or in store.

It is an aggressive business model yet a successful one at it. But so was apple inc when steve jobs was alive. After his death. Not so much.
If they want to be number one they have to be this way and it is just savvy business. I am a bit surprised there isnt a disney alt coin yet.
Sort of like what ripple is doing and if they wanted they could buy it up and adopt that to their business for their entrance into the cryptocurrency space. Just pick and choose what they want to keep and what they dont want just like a customer is doing on their plus+ service in picking a show they want to watch.
With 2 million subscribers presigned up before launch. They have a lot of eyes for which ever they plan to do if they do create their own token for payment of their services or just adopt a pre existing one.

Actually, Disney has already been involved in crypto-related stuff, so their token might be not far away. In 2014, they developed their own private blockchain Dragonchain, but a couple of years later it became open-source and is now considered to be unrelated to Disney. Disney is indeed a company that tries to conquer everything near it. Just in the spring of 2019, there've been rumors about Disney thinking of buying Bitstamp exchange. Taking these things into account, I think that Disney is likely to introduce their own token or buy out an existing crypto project they can afford and find successful.

The rumors are that these streaming services wants to transition to Live TV broadcasts too, because they want to offer something that you cannot instantly get on these pirate sites. They also want to introduce advertising on their platforms, because it is getting very difficult to fund original content with all the competition coming onto the scene.

Disney plus+ was supposed to be the Netflix killer, but I think Neflix are one step ahead of them, so they will not just lie down to die. I would like to see one of these services introducing some smart contract based on Crypto currencies to pay monthly for these subscriptions, because it will give them some advantage over some of their competitors. <grabbing the Bitcoin market>

What's more to do, when they're self satisfied with the present. Most of the firms that have established their business have their presence on the crypto market. This is just to have their name reach even the crypto people who haven't heard of them prior. This way Disney can take any decision in this, as crypto isn't a must for them to get popularity. As said in other threads, only some 6.2% of Americans own crypto. Such a big business as Disney don't care about crypto. If they add such payments, they'll do it through a payment processor and they'll actually receive US dollars.

I don't think that crypto would make their service "explode", but could give them a slight edge. From what I've read their service is cheaper than Netflix and that's more important for most possible customers (together with the content, obviously).


On another hand I don't know if I can install any Disney+ app on my TV (while Netflix and HBO go are there)....

This is what people fail to see about socalled acceptance of crypto by big corporations. They do not care about Bitcoin,,, they care about profits and paying salaries and paying dividends to investors. And not a single one of these shareholders probably care if they get it in bitcoin, they want cold money and hard cash.

Plex, the best platform for curating and streaming one's pirated 'shit', seems to be pushing the live angle to near universal condemnation. I have no interest in it whatsoever.

Same goes for advertising. If that becomes a thing, and why wouldn't it?, that's going to turn off a lot of customers.

Crypto and recurring subscriptions will never really work. They require pulling rather than pushing. And until people earn in crypto they're going to be a lot more discerning regarding the things they pay for with it.

Your right but look when facebook wanted to do the exact same thing. They got shotdown by the us government and their idea died in a fire ball of controversy for all companies to follow with the idea of creating their own cryptocurrency in making payments for the use of their services.
I was thinking if they accepted something like stellar lumens or one which the bigger crypto companies have airdropped to their customer base then it would be accepted soon rather than later.
With 10 million already signed up for disney plus in their first day of release those are alot of potential customers which could of had their first contact with using a particular cryptocurrency in which disney would of introduced them too.

for now I don't think they will accept crypto. but in the future, maybe this can happen. there are some cryptos that are suitable for use on their platform, but they can also make their own crypto. Disney Coin, sounds really good. and maybe this will be better than libra (facebook) and gram (telegram).
