If the long-awaited TO THE MOON happens, then many altcoins will show growth.  I think that ETH, TRX, BNB, XRP, LTC will show growth when the price of BTC soars and shows new heights.  It would be very good to know when this will happen.  And about new projects, I don’t even know what token to say. There are many good projects, but I will not undertake to recommend any for investment.  Now the market is showing the average for 2019 and it’s hard to say where it will go.

It will be hard to tell which is which because Altcoins do have different rates of change which I can say is also based on popularity and supply and for me, every Altcoins can give us all opportunity to make rich if and only if you know how to choose wisely among the variety of Altcoins that are existing in the vast crypto market. As of the moment, I am still into believing that ETH can make its way to the top of the Altcoins because ever since, it is playing the rank next to Bitcoin so I assume that once the market goes into the hype to the moon, ETH will be one of those coins who can make holders as rich as they can based on the amount they currently hold. I also bet that LTC as well can lead its way to the top and same as the other Altcoins out there because progress and improvement is open to all types of crypto coins within the market.

wow really ? 100k usd is huge  . i never experience to earned that on other coins that i hodl but maybe because i only hodl small amount of coins  ? sometimes the profit that you will get will also depend on how much coin you got .

also value of the coin will matter  . in that case , eth has the highest value among all altcoins so eth has the one that can provide you a better income if ever all altcoin goes to the moon but make sure that you have enough eth to make that happen  .

Probably the shittiest ones. Usually crappy altcoins get a pump in a bull market anyway. They are cheap, they pump anyway, you're not risking a lot of money,they are a throwaway investment in case of a bear market. All these things makes them good so if you invest in ETH or XRP you will be much safer in case of a bear market but you won't profit as much as you would with a shitcoin in a bull market.
The bad side of this is that shitcoin pumps are usually short and they tank anyway so you need to be fast.

There are couple of projects shining last weeks and this information can be obtained from CMC easily. However most are really showing fake volumes and manipulated price movements either directly or indirectly.

Those coins that you are describing are mostly the pump and dump coins. I wouldn't advise any person to track those coins that are gaining huge percentages within the week.

Having fake volume is their way to get more investors and hope that many doesn't buy on this gimmick anymore.

I mean if we're able to see another bull run similar to 2017, I'm sure the top 10 coins will be the first one to really enjoy it because obviously the support is there, it's just because investors are still reluctant to put their cash right now.

But if you are that smart, those top 10 alts are still cheap you can go buy and be a bagholder and hold for the next 2-3 years just like what you friend did early with XEM, (I assumed he just HODL on it).

3 years to hold those who can do that might be able to get whales, especially with a $ 100k investment maybe 3 years will get 200% profit even more.

I don't really believe in that, where buying and holding coins for a long time will double our profits. Because if that happens I think every person with cryptocurrency only needs to buy and wait within 3 years, so in my opinion it is necessary to observe some coins and we can't just buy and wait for a long time we have to observe price movements and when we has made a profit so that's when we have to sell it.

Your friend made a wise decision, good for him. But that was a huge risk to get such a reward. We cannot be certain of the project which could turn out to be a better source of investment considering the nature of the market. I know for sure that the bull run will come, I'm only not certain of when it would come, which makes it a bit difficult to give assurance concerning any particular coin or project.
