Are we all fools on believing the word "HOLD"?

I like to share my story being a crypto enthusiast, a trader and an investor at the same time.

I started in this forum in year 2015 when altcoins are still a good investment and Binance is still not the most popular exchange in the market.
I trade with Poloniex most of the time, sometimes I trade with Bittrex but then I realize that I am not so profitable with trading since I cannot focus on it due to the reason that i have a day job to prioritize.

Therefore, I started to invest for long term and I was entice by how the market moves and I was so optimistic that long term could really change my life.
So to make the story short, I invested with different altcoins and have help it until now.

Now, when the bull run comes, I still couldn't sell right away as I was getting greedy thinking I could earn more when I still hold.
of course, who would not HODL when all your friends in the group chat are also doing the same, even if the price rise high already, they are still saying HODL, and I really do it, and just sell a small portion of my investment to reward myself temporarily was I was into a big goal with my remaining investment.

And then, the correction comes started in year 2018, and I still didn't panic, continue to hold and even accumulate a bit when I see price has really dump a lot, just imagine ETH drop 10 times, so its really cheap and really tempting for any investors. So here I am now, I am still holding at a big loss but at the same time I am still hopeful one day my dreams will come into reality.

So top 10 of my portfolio consist of the following based on my blockfolio.

Holding it even we are in the bull market is a big mistake , there are many people has been experience this lost, becuase they believe that when holding it will increase its value sooner . if you are in profit  already take the profit and leave  dont wait for  dump will happen, its better to have sure earnings than gambling it for just hoping that it will increase more .

What is the point of holding it for a few years if you give it up now? not to mention how low the price is right now compared to where you bought it.
it does not make any sense for me to sell it at this price, I would rather hold it into dust other than losing the chance for my portfolio to breakeven or even make a profit.
holding is fine but you must know what is the reason you are holding it.

You are not alone with that experience and hope for the market to get better by simply holding. I was also greedy during the best run of the market which was two years ago. But the lesson was already absorbed and I will not do the same mistake.

I think with your current set of altcoins, you have to decide what to continue holding and what to sell at loss to avoid further losses.

I agree with you, in bull-run everyone on twitter, telegram and other social channels were shouting HODL HODL, but honestly, I didn't listen to anyone and straight cashed-out 50% of my total portfolio with huge huge profit which I can ever imagine in 10years job and hardwork. I'd suggest you to NEVER listen to anyone in crypto ALWAYS does whatever you believe in. Set a goal like at which point you'd sell your each crypto asset and when it hits your target price just do it, never listen to the influencers and crypto gurus over twitter and web. You'll be bombarded with newses in bull-market like huge partnership this and that happen with XYZ, and you get tempted to HODL instead of selling, but NO DON'T I REPEAT DON"T

Don't worry! I'm in the same boat as you.
I accumulated a lot of coins in 2017 and as the bull run came, I thought too, let's hold it and see where it goes but in some time, the bubble burst and all came to shambles.
I would say that was the worst mistake of my life and I realised it's not about HODL or whatnot.
It's just that when you see that you have crossed what you were expecting, you should cash out because the crypto market is known for its volatility and it's never going to stay stable.
So, get ahead of the game and take the chance when you still have it.

Anyway, don't worry. There will come many more runs in the future and we won't make the same mistake twice.

Unfortunately for you, if you feel the value of the growth is high and the profit is there, you should sell it when the price is high and you can buy it back when the price is lower, both profit and increase the number. the amount of Altcoins that you hold, but you made a mistake when you sell a small part, but if you have done so, hope that when growing again, change it to sell out and buy other potential Altcoins when that price is hold.

Recently as positive thoughts have increased around us, so I suggest waiting. You have already lost some, waiting for a little bit more does not make much difference for you. Or, if this portfolio does not satisfy you, you can replace it with others. Replace some of them with more potential. What needs to be done is to earn more with less loss.

Believing the word Hold isn't a mistake as long as we know how to deal with the market. We can hold our investments if we want but we should also know when to sell it. Observing the market situation would be a big help for us. As for me, we should know when to wait and that's when the market is in a correction period and just sell when the bull run approaches. Holding on too much to our faith sometimes leads us to greediness so we should know our limits.

   I'm not a fool! Investing in crypto-currencies is like investing in the future. You need to believe in something, and I believe
that future is in crypto-currencies. People will embrace this technology with the time. More people are joining and after some
time they learn more and they are able to understand why crypto-currencies are the best thing that can happen to global
economy.
   I will not doubt in myself! There is a lot of FUD around, but I will stand strong with all of my holding, I will add more with time.
I chose to believe and I will stick to that!

For that though, it clarifies something that holding can't be good all the time, it causes losses to our ends also sometimes.
The market is still not in good shape after the bull runs dried out, we suffer a long bearish which makes people get into panicking and sell their coin but somehow you've been holding for some reason. Sadly it won't give your expectations making you lose.

I'm sure a lot of people still holding altcoins for the sake that it will soon to rise (even me). But I'd rather accept the reality that bullish can't be easily seen right now. May HOLD isn't a perfect option for altcoins to think but rather sell them right away if we already in profit.

Double check you're holding, Centra is said to be a scam project. I still believed in holding but Im trying now to eliminate coins or stop loss to those that are no longer active or those team that are no plans to update their project despite the market is still in bear condition. We need to face it some projects already abandoned their projects so we need to be update on those coins we hold.

It is early to think about selling all your main investment portfolio just for a mini altcoin season whenever it happens. The real crypto enthusiast believes in the future vision of the project which he eliminated other alternatives for investing. HODL still means holding in all types of market cycles, if the bear market is going for years, you are supposed to continue "HODLing" without making an exemption.

I feel with your experiences too wayback 2018. But we are different in our strategy! I'm not continued holding those cryptocurrency. Because i was losing already its better to save the rest by selling it to pay my loan and dues. which is the right decision since most of the price of my holdings was continue to dip down further. It was a clear loss, but on the other side i was thankful that i was able to save some of its value by selling it at 50% loss. for me its better than nothing.

The only coin that has benefitted from hodling is bitcoin. And maybe Ethereum and Litecoin if you bought in the early days when they were about a $1.

With the other alts, you have to understand that the only beneficiaries are the developers. There are so many coins, why start a new one instead of helping improve an existing coin? Because the developer wants to make bank.

First they launch their coin, and maybe do a ninja mine so they accumulate before everyone else. Or maybe do an ICO. Then a bit of hype to get ordinary people to buy, while the developer is offloading to the ordinary person. Then once the developer has made a profit, it all sort of dies away. Rinse and repeat. If you don't sell during the hype period, you become a bagholder.

Hodlers still hold the useless altcoin but they don't want to choose the BTC due to the low return on the investment. I don't think the Atlant project worth to hold after they failed to make a working real product in the real estate world which is hard for all these type projects. If the choices are only altcoins for the crypto investor, taking the best ones from the list can save time for impatient investors. HODL is not for impatient people, it can take years for reaching the determined goal.

Sometimes you have to follow what is in your heart and mind, ignore with what everyone says and do what you want. Let be imagine, you spend money for investing which is mean you have a right to do anything with your investment. Don't be easy to believe the suggestion of someone else, sometimes it will decieve you.

You can find the ins and out of the coin that you choose for your investment so as you will know and have your own prediction of the coin. I get used to sell the half my investment when the bull run came, because it will make me comfortable, I mean, when the price going down I have got profit from it and when the coin price going up I'll get double profit.

This is a leason for you, your money is yours and there is no reason to believe other people because when you felt lost they don't necessarily feel the same way as you.

Hey buddy, so-called smart investment is according to our own analysis and hold fast to our beliefs that have been thoroughly studied and studied. Even people who say HOLD2 are just nonsense, in the sense that the analysis is not commensurate with what is said. When a trend (bull) comes and approaches you to get 2x - 5x the profit from the purchase price, it makes sense to sell it. Basically people who are greedy will not get anything and receive a saturated mind. Smart investing is not enough to just technically & fundamentally, emotionally or psychologically someone is also very important as happens to you now.

You are not alone,most crypto enthusiast has been living with the same condition but if you really interested in making profits from investing in cryptos then you should have sold it at the right time now its too late or too early so you have to wait until the next bull run comes which makes your coin value to go further.

If you are HODLing these coins then I think you need to give up now. It is not HODL's fault really. It is the fault of these coins. If you were HODLing coins such as BTC or ETH, HODL must have proven to be a nice strategy. Atlant is an outright scam, Edgeless is about to die, Centra is illegal, and so on. Humaniq, Matchpool, Lunyr, and SONM were once famous projects that looked very promising at the start but only to end up slow and weak.
