As long as the exchange are still operating, they can be considered alive but there is a big difference between alive and profitable exchange, and I believe only few of the exchanges are profitable compared to the number of exchanges. you can clearly see than in the list https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/, there are only few who have a good volume and its also not guaranteed that those exchanges who have a big volume are not telling its real volume.

The current currencies are 4849 and Markets are 20850 according to the CMC. Is this really working fairly? I think if it was altered, it would better to get more volume and liqudity. Still thinking, the future of Exchangaes.

Not all exchange working fairly regarding volume and liquidity.
The current exchange business model is combined with shitICO/IEO which just looking for profitable without credibility, it is only a matter of time when they will shutdown and take the profit.

Always DYOR when you choose an exchange.

Absolutely they are still going to exist, they are an integral part of the industry, any investment and trading industry needs exchange for the community, they are going to stay and we will see many new projects about an exchange, but not all of them will succeed, only those who had the tech and the money can stay in the competition.

Nothing can kill centralized exchange as far as coins and tokens are still alive, many more exchanges will come around and the better exchanges among them will beat the old exchanges, all this are so normal, if we have more exchanges it won't affect anything compared to having more new coins when many are rubbish projects
