It's about that time of year. It only happens once per year. "Bitcoin Week" ... it really seems like it should be a thing doesnt it?

People buy a lot of bitcoins during those holiday times.

All nuzzled up all comfy in clean warm clothes, sitting on comfy couch next to the tree glowing, the scent of pine in the air, sipping hot chocolate! Might as well buy some coin on your laptop. Buy, hold, whatever it is...

So should we coin this and put a stamp on it?

Bitcoin week,  we'll it has nice ringing to it,  but I think it shouldn't be based on the period where people buy btc the most, I doubt there is even a particular period where this happens every year.
If we can actually have a btc week, it should be because we wanna celebrate this great currency

People buy a lot of bitcoins during those holiday times.
I think people are actually selling more than buying at this time of year, at least those who celebrate Christmas and New Year. Most will actually spend some BTC (by selling for fiat/or directly) to buy gifts, food and drink, decorations and all that is being bought this time of year.

People actually buy BTC long before so they can sell it and make a profit in this period, and this was a good strategy this year as well, at least for those who bought in the first few months of this year, they doubled their money.

A week of price surge is a good opportunity for traders to sell since they know the price will soon dive after it, the only who will buy are the ones who doesn't trade but hold for the long period of time. Its still an indication that they know that the longer they hold could get them more profit. This is if they don't run out of patience that after months they see price still below their halving expectation.

People do this for Chinese New Year as well, I believe it’s end of Jan in 2020, they sell to give out red envelope to children and stuff

It should be going that way but what had happened is the opposite, the price of bitcoin has a higher chance to increase rather than decrease, it has been proven in 2017 and last year in 2018 bitcoin price rise from $3200 on December 17th to $4000 by Christmas, don't know why. Hopefully by the end of this this year bitcoin will rise again to $10K.
December 22nd 2016 = $820 > December 27th 2016 = $910
December 22nd 2017 = $15,500 > December 27th 2017 = $16,839

I don’t think it’s going to happen this year. I think there are more factors that affect when people buy Bitcoins other than time of year. I believe that news regarding Bitcoin will affect the price as well as some government regulation. I also believe that the halving will have a significant affect.

The month of december this year seems so plain, there are lots of news, a postive news towards the crypto space but the thing is, it will be felt not later this year but on the year 2020 (crossed fingers) hopefully. The price of bitcoin this month as for my prediction it will be lower than it is now, I guess people that holds bitcoin right now might sell just before the christmas week, holdai season.

I also believe that the halving will have a significant affect.
No doubt on the halving event, that will obviously affect the market but we don't yet if it will be a negative or positive this time since it is still uncertain. Hopefully it will be still positive towards the price.

I've always thought that this time of the year people prefer to sell, make their profits, use during the holidays and plan for the next year
But maybe I'm wrong, and I wish I am

I'll not sell a coin during this time, I'll take some rest, and make my plans to the next year, 2020 looks shine to BTC

If you have an investment in bitcoin I think it was not a good time to sell your bitcoins since the market price was a bit low and it was a great opportunity for a lot of investors to invest in bitcoin,
I think holding cryptocurrency was still a thing and i think there are a lot of delays in the market and in the past year the end of the year was always a bull and the market price was always in a skyrocket but it was different this year.

Thanks for enlightening us that there is such a week in which people buy BTC.
Already many members have ruled out this fact that there is such a week. We have bitcoin bull run in Dec 2017 when BTC saw its ATH of 19k on 19 Dec. This doesn't mean every year in Dec we will have such a bullish week.

I think in this week, bitcoin's price can be pushed a little bit because a lot of people will use bitcoin at this week like each year. I'm gonna be one of those people, though, I'm planning to buy some stuffs using my bitcoin at the end of this year. I hope that bitcoin price will increase and we'll see a new level of bitcoin's value, I hope it's gonna be around 9k$.

Yes, you are completely right. If by mid-December Bitcoin did not increase in price, then this will not happen until the end of the year. Well, you can’t say that it was a bad year for bitcoin. The price of $ 7,500 is not so bad. This increase is more than double compared to the price at the beginning of this year. But for altcoins this is the second consecutive bad year. Because of this, ICO projects are on the brink of survival. We hope the next year will be more successful for cryptocurrency.

Frankly speaking, no one knows whether bitcoin will rise in mid-December or stay low profile until the end of the year.
The game to inject huge flux of money into the market or start sell-off events are beyond our reach, big investors and whales who play the role in influencing market activity.
But bitcoin is heading to a good year in 2020, we can expect it to rise gradually until the next halving, do not sell your bitcoin and keep buying in every chance.

actually each year people make the exact opposite speculation compared to yours. meaning they say since it is Christmas and people are spending money, they sell their bitcoins. which to be honest it has always seemed like a flawed logic to me. not to mention that each year the market mostly slows down, sometimes with some small drops due to panic sells but nothing major due to any kind of major sells that people expect! the reason is that people don't liquidate their assets for Christmas, that doesn't even make sense to sell your bitcoin to have money to buy shit...

the reason is that people don't liquidate their assets for Christmas, that doesn't even make sense to sell your bitcoin to have money to buy shit...

Christmas is celebrated only by Christians, not celebrated by Muslims, Buddhists or atheists, so we are talking about some 2+ billion people. Of course, not everyone will sell their BTC to spend some money for the holidays, but some will do it because it is a special part of the year for them. Unlike you, I don't consider some things "shit", in some countries it still holds on to tradition. This time of year is the period when people spend more money, then in other parts of the year.

For example, Bank of England says this about spendings in December :

A typical household in the UK spends over £2,500 each month. But in the run up to Christmas our spending habits change dramatically. To begin with we buy a lot more! A typical household spends over £800 extra in December. The increase in our spending reveals a lot about what we get up to around Christmas. It won’t come as a surprise to learn that we spend a lot more on going out, eating food and drinking alcohol. We also of course spend money buying gifts for our family and friends.

It is therefore logical to conclude that some of the spendings will come from Bitcoin sales. But it will certainly not significantly affect the price of BTC, unless someone decides to sell a large amount of BTC and buy something very expensive.

There is no point in discussing the fact that there is such a week, its just a rumor. Lot of predictions have been made regarding bitcoin bull run and almost all went wrong. Between its good to buying Bitcoin towards the end of this month as price of Bitcoin seems to go more down (just my own guess). Happy Bitcoin buying Smiley

There is no concrete data that will support your claim.

If there will be a Bitcoin week, it should be celebrated during the week the Genesis block solved. It is like the birth of bitcoin. SO I recommend it to be celebrated during January 3 - 9.

I think this is not a good week as many of you think, because before next year's Bitcoin halving. there will be a lot of things that will happen. Like for example, the price will fall even lower at this point. Most of the exchanges' employees will be on vacations and some traders. there will be no effect on price on that week instead of what the price before that week, will be the price of that week as well or maybe lower than that. If there's no many transactions at all.

Can you please come up with some statistics to prove that there is Bitcoin week from Dec 22-28? I m sure you dont have any concrete evidence to prove that.
I think its just a FUD and nothing more. Everyone is advised not to pay any attention to such speculations.

The price surge of bitcoin is spread throughout the year. I do not think there is a single week that has a significant surge and consistent enough to be coined as Bitcoin week. Besides, December is already a busy week month, squeezing bitcoin week into it makes it more crowded of events.

No doubt on the halving event, that will obviously affect the market but we don't yet if it will be a negative or positive this time since it is still uncertain. Hopefully it will be still positive towards the price.

In the short term it depends on how many speculative sellers there are left, but these sellers will run out of coins to sell. Looking at where we bottomed out, we are only 120% above that bottom right now. Realistically speaking there shouldn't be many sellers left, but we have enough time to shake the few of them out before the halving and still have a positive halving price wise.

Going by the current hashrate it seems that miners are quite comfortable sitting this correction out. Interesting aspect of futures platforms is that miners can easily hedge against price declines and actually even out the paper loss of mining unprofitably. Great for them and great for Bitcoin security wise.

Historically Bitcoin has always done well before and after the halving so there is no reason to expect something different to happen until it actually happens.

I don't see that bitcoin week is kind of real because just like what you have been said there is a lot of times that bitcoin is growing or pumping and not only in a single week which is you called the bitcoin week. Month of december is a busy month and this occur the supply and demand situation which is the demand of bitcoin is getting high because many people wants to have a bitcoin in the month of december because christmas break is coming so the demand becomes high and the supply becomes low because many people are not selling their bitcoins so I don't think that bitcoin surge on a specific week only.

So should we coin this and put a stamp on it?
This is crazy! It's opposite of what actually happened. It is the last time of the year. And I think people will sell large amounts of bitcoin. As usual, the bitcoin price will drop slightly by 5-10% at the end of the year and it will return in the first quarter of next year. The value of bitcoin depends on the general trend of the world, especially, the most influential countries like China often sell a lot of bitcoins at the end of the year.

every end of the year we are shocked by the price itself many of the most appropriate assumptions are sell because every December 24 - January 2 is a holiday time ,we will spoil this body for a vacation so everyone will sell a little for the benefit of their children too but all of that outs certainly because we are always surprised by enthusiasts crypto

People buy a lot of bitcoins during those holiday times.

This is weird and hard to explain because the holidays are a time when people take a break and spend money. In which Christmas is one of the most important holidays, people need Fiat to buy food and a variety of gifts. So around this time people tend to sell bitcoins for cash.
What was it that made bitcoin soaring in that period of time?

I think they're still so many bad hands holding bitcoin that are there for the wrong reasons and only to increase their dirty fiat amount will be the ones who sell bitcoin to buy dumb crap for other people to buy dumb crap back for them. I will spend bitcoin this Christmas only because of the sales. I don't do presents and gifts because it is just commercial bs. I just eat good food and stay with friends and family. People don't even have money but buy dumb shit for other people on Christmas putting them into even more debt. I am so glad I have never bee in debt in my life.

We have supporters should if anything buy crypto for people for the Christmas gift. Much more useful than whatever you wanted to buy them.

People's perceptions vary about whether there is a good week for bitcoin and before nearing the end of the year and there is a possibility that bitcoin users will celebrate Christmas, which certainly requires fiat to buy necessities and gifts to celebrate Christmas and it is possible to sell bitcoin for their needs .
and besides that we will face the turn of the year to celebrate and some plans to go on vacation and all who need fiat and there is a possibility will sell it and all that does not mean spend bitcoin but only use what is needed.
and but that doesn't mean everyone celebrates Christmas and welcomes a special new year, so we'll see what happens in a few weeks about bitcoin.

I don't think masses will join until we hit ATH and the problem is that we kinda need masses for the next ATH so....

well, all hope in institutions, which don't seem to be coming in large numbers yet

We couldn't be so sure about it there is a lot of possibilities,
And besides Bitcoin and other crypto has showed it before no matter how much we expect it to rise up it could also go down rapidly so we couldn't be so sure that it would be a Bitcoin week or a week where the price would go up.

Dont forget its a 2 way thing, I wanted to argue as well but I thought If there are no sellers there wont be buyers so you are both right on higher trade at this time. The motive at this time may just be different, some are to take profit while some are to accumulate for the next bull. Buyers at this time are just smarter than sellers.

This is definitely the time of the year when people love giving out gifts to other people. Bitcoin makes for a great gift and can be used to purchase other items like gift cards, travel, movie tickets, clothes and toys.

If you are thinking of a gift to give to a loved one I would recommend giving them a hardware wallet so they can keep their Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies secure.

I think in the last week of December people would rather spend their vacation time gathering with family to celebrate Christmas and the new year and stop thinking about bitcoin.
Every effort has been made so far this year to benefit from bitcoin investments. in the last week of the year I would choose to close my laptop and take a break from the crypto world. I will gather with family and have fun and pray that next year the price of bitcoin can increase.
but if indeed at the end of the week the price of bitcoin goes up then I will be very happy and will sell some for my holiday with my family.

I don't think that the end of the year is really the days when people buy, it's holiday so instead of buying bitcoins they are into buying gifts, presents and spending it to something they like. Well, bitcoin can be the choice for others but not the majority of them.

Wise people that gets their bonus would spend it to investments instead of extravagant and pleasure items. There are generous folks that are also sending gifts in bitcoin during this season but it's undetermine to say that it only happens during this holidays season.

I think the amount of coins sold for buying gifts is negligible and doesn't affect prices - after all, what kind of investors sells their assets just because they want to spend some money? They're supposed to hold only a portion of their net worth in assets and always have some spare cash.

My explanation why the price goes down during holidays (which actually doesn't happen all the time) is because traders take vacations during those times, and they liquidate volatile assets because they won't be able to react quickly if there would be a market change.

I think its because holiday season is really costly. You really opt to spend to give gifts and buy foods. December is really the most expensive month. If that would be the case, most likely many will sell there bitcoin. Some goes to vacation and family gatherings. Most people are really busy in this season. It may possibly affect the price of bitcoin amd I just hope for the best everyday.

Indeed, also if OP based it on what he observed last year, it is probably because the majority of us bought bitcoin last December thinking that in this year, bitcoin will skyrocket again and make another All Time High price but it didn't, and it could be repeated over and over again because we have our own predictions about bitcoin's bull run, moreover, it isn't that bad to buy bitcoin in this so called "Bitcoin week" by OP since bitcoin is still in the deep.

I myself is celebrating Christmas and New year too, but selling Bitcoin ain't none of my plan to use it to buy stuff for the celebration. It's pointless to hold when you sell it in a much cheaper price just because you want to celebrate like there is no tomorrow lol.
Anyway, Christmas season doesn't always affect the price in a negative way. If you remember 2017.

Nothing changes and tomorrow is the 28th of December, and Bitcoin is at around $ 7,100, which is unlikely to raise the price. But today is not December 28th, let's see what happens tomorrow, because many traders expect a bullish mood.

It is really a good thing to admire that instead of converting bitcoins back to fiats, they are buying items and what you've just mentioned directly through bitcoin. In that regards, we can still make sure there is allot of market capitalization that we have, and the market price of bitcoin will remain high. But if not, let's follow what investors are doing, which is taking advantage of the declining market to accumulate BTC, and other altcoins to add it to their portfolio.

I have never heard of this concept, but this seems to be true for the Christmas holiday, the last 3 years Bitcoin has increased in the week before Christmas.

Looking at current situation I don't think there will be a huge impact as we are witnessing a fluctuations of approximately $100 daily and I feel this is created by traders on their own terms to earn regular profits everyday and I feel that the value of bitcoin will remain similar until halving.

I think OP got it right with some alterations.
Price of bitcoin was 6590$ on 18 dec 2019 while on 23 Dec 2019 it went up to touch 7600$. I just calculated this from coinmarketcap. Those who have bought bitcoin on 18 dec have surely enjoyed the Christmas.

Just to add up on this one, If you guys noticed that the price of bitcoin in month of December in every year that it isn't pumping, it's very obvious that we are not going to experience a pump because of the holiday season, we cannot force ourselves to believe that it would raise within the last days of 2019. The price now is not that disappointing at all, $7000 is still a good one for bitcoin knowing it will be having the 4th halving next year. People would definitely go wild after the Christmas holiday, probably on the first quarter of 2020 around January to March.

It’s not funny how some people just jump to conclusions and always having high expectations on Bitcoin. Bruhh, you said this since 9th of December and till the last day you mentioned we haven’t seen anything happen. Lol, I know you said this because of what happened in 2017, but you forgot that we don’t the possibility of same thing repeating itself and even if it’s possible it’s not going to be this year.

Starting from when the halving was announced to be in 2020, I gave up my hope on Bitcoin increase in the years 2018 and 2019. I am not even sure if there is going to be a rise in 2020, but I’m just saying because that’s how it’s been. Anyway, let’s wait till then and see what happens.

I have never heard of this concept, but this seems to be true for the Christmas holiday, the last 3 years Bitcoin has increased in the week before Christmas.

Everyone is waiting for the 2017 bull season. But I don't expect that anymore. The price of bitcoin increased during that period. Christmas holidays can experience a mobility for bitcoin. Bitcoin can increase very quickly. Because there has been a decline for 2 years. I need a new story now.

How sure are you that December 22 - 28 is a Bitcoin week? I think you should provide us with evidence backing this your claims and assumptions. You can't just make this assumptions without providing us with analysis and market statistics to back this. People in the crypto space believe in evidence and analysis. Please give us something to rely on to accept December 22 -28 as Bitcoin week.

We have been through it, and nothing has changed. The bitcoin price is still stable and the market is stable. I also do not know what he relied on to confirm that December 22 - 28 is the week of bitcoin, maybe in his mind thinking that on holidays bitcoin prices will be dumped and make many investors lose.  And in the end that's just his fantasies, nothing has changed for this market

You are wrong.... This is the time where most of the investors and buyers are selling.

It has been always like this since 2017 always within the same interval.
That's because people need the money to buy stuff for this season.

They need to buy presents, prepare everything into their houses for guests, getting prepared and so on.
All preparations takes time and money and that's the reason why it's all about selling during such times.

Nothing to see here

Are you sure Roll Eyes ...that the purchase of bitcoin rises during holidays? i think it is rather the opposite as people sell bitcoins to have fun with their friends and family members during these times. If there were stores that accept bitcoin then people would have no need of cashing out but use their bitcoins for all their purchases but there ain't so they have to sell their bitcoins in order to have some fiat currency to spend.

Historically the price either remains sideways or goes down end of the year, it never goes up. The same situation will remain till end of January. Any surge in price will happens either mid of febuary or the end. So, keep calm and enjoy the last few days of the year.

I haven't seen the graphs but I highly doubt people are pinpointing this exact week to buy coins
especially the common folk , not whales or traders or something
this year was a good one if you see it from the point of view of your March trader when the price went down to nearly 3k USD
this gave so many opportunities to buy and we also saw a 10.000+ high as well
buying now at 7400 could be a good idea if we keep the coming halving in mind
next year the price should be higher than this , but with bitcoin you can never tell

In general, no one can predict with certainty about the movements of bitcoin, seeing that by the end of 2018 there is indeed nothing that can be relied upon but when the end of 2017 the price is pretty good even though the trend is still down. and dijanuary rose again even though not long ago and continued down until the end of this year. bitcoin is indeed very unique and precisely here lies the advantage of bitcoin which is very difficult to guess when going forward. because the movement of bitcoin is very fast both down and up. so it takes patience and not panic to execute what we are going to do in order to benefit.

I just think otherwise while on vacation some people will sell their bitcoin for Christmas and New Year's needs. and some people will take a break from cryptocurrrency activities. and if we see yesterday there were no drastic changes to bitcoin. bitcoin prices are stable at $ 7,300 going up and down a little. and I think until the beginning of this year the price of bicoin will remain at the level of $ 7k.

Observing the market or just assessing if how things will proceed after this year will end. Many investors are just waiting for the right timing to buy their assets some might adding more to their holding while others are just coming back and looking for good opportunities to earned inside this industry. There are reasons for each investors and traders that only them can explain the position they're taking.

This idea is good because it will for surely help the price of the bitcoin to rise up even more every year. But this plan is kinda hard to pull of since we cannot force anyone to buy bitcoin if they really do not have enough money on their pocket. Maybe we need to think of something that will help the price of bitcoin to rise up even more for the next years.

The said Bitcoin week wasn't the same as what happened last 2017. I just hope that things would go better for the market again. People are mostly selling than buying these past few weeks and I guess that's because we're in need of something to spend on the holidays. The only thing that would have a huge impact on the market situation is the upcoming events in crypto like halving.

it will definitely not always be the same, as now similarities may occur but not always with the total. and I only hope for better developments, for example in halving bitcoin which is expected to come in the coming year. bitcoin price growth is highly awaited because the impact is quite large

Seems like bitcoin week doesn't happen at this time, the price just sits at the same range within $7xxx, not even close to reaching above $8K by the end of the year.
So, let's see what's tomorrow will bring to us. Maybe a $3000 pump? hahaha Grin
the best shot I guess, probably within $7300-$7400 on December 31st.

Well, what to say. Expectations were too big and once again many hoped that 2017 scenario will repeat. No matter the spending Bitcoin for holidays I don't think that influenced the price much.
Also, there is no use in waiting for 2017 to repeat and Bitcoin to reach some huge price again. Every Bitcoin user must have a plan how to best use current moment, don't wait for something in the future that might never come.

wait and hope it can be a motivation to keep earn bitcoin because that way we will keep hold until a certain time to expect. because sometimes when there is nothing we are waiting for or we expect we will just spend it aimlessly. 2 times a history of halving can repeat it, of course, we hope it can become 3 times with the rapid development of bitcoin in the next few years.

in my opinion not low maybe it can be said that the price of bitcoin is stable this week, let's look at the price of December 18, the weakest in a few months touching 6600 $ but for the long term I think the current price is the right price because bitcoin stands at 7300-7500 $

Bitcoin market has been experiencing decline for 2 years. Bitcoin spins up to $ 3750. Now it's around $ 7,000. Bitcoin can go up to this price. I think there's every possibility. You should do very good research before investing.
