To make it short: you are quite obviously mistaken.
The (superficially suspicious) pattern of a merit circle among the aforementioned users seems to be a simple result of high quality posts by them, which are clearly recognizable as such, since they are also getting a lot of merit from others (for which the non-highlighted transactions were more useful than the highlighted ones).
