What if Theymos added new Rank after Legendary?

I feel I have provided great benefit to the forum in many ways over the years;  many can attest to that.

I see people with blasts of merit who post a lot in other sections of the forum; mainly the BTC sections and the gambling sections.


Many of the projects I have done over time, ended shortly after merit began....


Basically it puts me at a losing stance comparatively;  because I'm not sure if I will ever be needed for such projects in the future;  and not many new questions need a response from me in the last year.
If I were to gauge it;  I would feel like I have been pushed back; after working very hard to get where I am.  This is why I have spent more time in Meta the past several months;  I am trying to do what I can for the forum as a whole;  alongside the few other places that haven't required as much of my attention.



Then again... does more rank really matter?  I thought people who achieved Legendary status;  actually earned it....  

I don't see the need for creating more levels; only to curtail what we have now.

If ever theymos would add another rank then I think allot of things need to adjust as well. So far, the bounty and campaign payments will be more higher, and there seems to be no more appropriate rank name above legendary. Maybe a tag would do depending on what particular specialization these high ranking members do.

Such as for ddmrddmr and loyceV, they focus deeper on the concerns of the members regarding their rank, merits, and stats. Others are more on publishing contents and arts. And some are legit born to be bounty hunters.

• Received a total of 82 Merit up to last Friday.
• Received 0 Merit for 0 of 1440 posts created before the introduction of Merit.
• Received 81 Merit (98.78%) for 25 (2.93%) of 853 posts created after the introduction of Merit (0.0949 Merit per new post).
• Received 1 Merit (1.21%) for posts that are now deleted (or off-limit (Staff/VIP Section)).

If I were to gauge it;  I would feel like I have been pushed back; after working very hard to get where I am.

You're Legendary already, and (understandably) some people prefer to Merit lower ranks. Your Merit earnings per post aren't very low, but not high either. You've posted a lot on the Altcoin boards, and because those boards have so much spam, even good posts don't get read much, and if posts don't get read, they won't receive any Merit. Adding the fact that you don't create many posts in total, you end up where you are now. But your posts aren't bad, so I did some "Merit source things" on them. I don't want to spend the rest of my day reading all your posts, so feel free to post links to some of your own good posts in Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source.

If you're not loaded with sMerit, I would suggest though to spread them to more different posts. You've sent three quarters of your sMerit with 10 at a time.

Rank only matters for signature space, although I clearly remember the moment I turned Legendary after waiting for many weeks.
The "problem" is that many farmed spammers reached Legendary in the past, and despite many getting banned, there are still Legendary Shitposters. Maybe that can be a new rank

I remember every moments I reached new ranks or new records of merits, LoyceV. Sweet memory, especially when I turned to be a Hero member. BTW, there is a fact that people only care (in my opinion and I could be wrong) about their coming ranks before they can reach it. I believe every Legendary members here don't care about their rank (if there is no risk of rank demotion, LOL) but it is a lie if they say "Oh, man, years ago, I felt very normal when my account turned to Legendary".

I think creating a new rank is very low on the priority list right now, and that something like that might happen when we get a new forum. Certainly there are individuals who may deserve some new rank that would further emphasize their contribution to the forum, but this does not necessarily require a new rank.

A possible solution is to create special badges, as it has recently been the case in the art competition and even before that we can see some memebers have special badges.

It might be simpler to change coin color under username for say every 500 merits earned, but of course with an emphasis on earning merits (airdrops merits excluded). This could show the difference between those who only have airdroped merits, and those who earned them.

Not a bad idea, but I'm sure many people wouldn't like it - probably that rank would apply to those who have never earned a single merit, but we have Hero/Legendary members who have 25, 50 or even 100 earned merits, which does not help them avoid the category of shitpostings members.

If theymos will demote those legendary ranks who haven't earned the required merits for their current rank then there will be a huge commotion here in forum. Lots of shitposers wearing signature will complained.

Merit system implemented to impose a guideline to improve quality posts. So if there will be a next rank after Legendary it will be decided by theymos whether the idea hasn't approved by many, I'm sure this has come to his mind already and probably reading this thread if its a good move or not. Can't say, but hope he response here too.

not sure "the answer" exists, but the demand is not insignificant for the question. The introduction of Merit has done well over time, but it seems alot of people think it shouldn't be the last change to the ranking system

I agree. Instead of thinking for a new higher rank, we still have another problem that is more necessary. Not only Legendary shitposters, we probably have Hero and Senior shitposters or even there are many others (Full member-below). Why don't we focus on this problem firstly? Mythical rank won't fix this problem, on the contrary we may have other potential problems.

If all miners were to read all the posts you and I did in my eight or nine gpu/altcoin mining threads you and I would have hundreds more merits.

You made a ton of good posts in those gpu threads that had value during 2016 and 2017 I would think they earned under 20 merits since they were prior to the merit system’s founding.

A lot of people did very well learning from those posts you made in those threads 🧵 you were very helpful to me.

We not hope that the bitcointalk.org user account ranking will be added by theymos again. I just dont agree when this forum has as many ranks as the rankings in the games. Theymos probably ignored this request and most of the advice, but I also dont know what he wants after the forum passed a decade.
To reach Legendary, I have to wait another 1-2 years when my merit, posts and activities are sufficient, how can I reach Legendary +++ or more ?

Maybe Theymos can consider membership types instead, such as adding DT1 & DT2 titles to user profiles so we can recognize them as we can recognize members who are founders, admin, global moderators, moderator, staff, and etc. IMO

OP, you've still got a long way to go before you hit Legendary so I wouldn't worry too much about any potential ranks after that one.

In any case, this has been discussed lots of times before and I'm pretty sure Theymos isn't even considering changing the ranking system, though I haven't read through this entire thread yet.  I've read other ones over the past couple of years and they always end with no changes or additions whatsoever.

And frankly I'd be completely fine if Legendary rank is the end of the line on the forum.  Right now it's almost impossible for new members registering since the merit system was introduced to even get to Sr. Member.  Very few have achieved that rank and even fewer have gotten to Hero or Legendary.  Most of the Legendaries were grandfathered in (including myself) and I bet that over the next few years if nothing changes, there won't be many new additions as far as members getting to Legendary.

STAR Legendary : i think this rank only for the 10 Top Legendary with the highes merit.

And eventually, other people would reach that rank where they attained to get that rank and they would start feeling cheated if they don't attain the rank too and before you know it, it would be over 10 members with that rank and the madness continues.. I think the forum ranks are perfect the way it is, the Legendary members has reached the highest rank they could possibly attain here and they know it, while the rest of us are fighting to reach there.

The only reason this discussion exists is because of the merit system and the mismatch between those who ground their way to legendary status and those who effortlessly spammed their way to it. I would like to see a rank that allows the worthwhile users to clearly out themselves as wonderful.

Yeah...   Its not that I feel undervalued at all...    god, shit can be complicated in the head sometimes.

I personally have been waiting for that new meta; but with how big the game has come its getting harder and harder to get signs on what is actually worth pursuing now.

If anything:  a new rank should be something to merit the shitposting detritus of this board....   Let people know who they are talking to before seeing any "red flags".
