I just found an interesting little news from southeast Delhi about crypto. I thought its good to share here.  Grin

little information about south east Delhi.

South East Delhi:
▪️Area: 102 Sq. Kms
▪️Population: Above 18 Lakhs.
▪️Literacy Rate: 86.3%

RTI filed to know:
1. Can a victim lodge an FIR in a Crypto-related fraud?
2. How many FIRs lodged?

RTI Reply:
1. Yes, you can.
2. No FIR.

now point is, Does it means
No Crime ? or people from that area don't use crypto or afraid to go in police after getting scammed ?

what you guys thoughts  Huh Roll Eyes

Really interesting to know this kind of news. Actually no single FIR  has been registered there regarding Crypto Currency fraud or any ponzi scam about Crypto. Many people doesn't know about crypto this shows that how many are aware of cryptocurrency in India.

Really interesting to know this kind of news. Actually no single FIR  has been registered there regarding Crypto Currency fraud or any ponzi scam about Crypto. Many people doesn't know about crypto this shows that how many are aware of cryptocurrency in India.

Reality is somewhat different from this. Actually, lots of Indian people know about Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies and use them in one way or the other. But the outlook of government institutions like police, income tax departments, banks, etc. is skeptical and mostly negative towards cryptocurrencies. As a result, either people are afraid to register complaints or they are bashed by police if they try to do so.
Stedsm shared one of his experience on the forum before that once he was scammed by a localbitcoins buyer but when he tried to lodge complaint, police rather bashed him and told him not to come with any complaint regarding cryptocurrencies.

Income Tax Department is currently training its officers regarding cryptocurrencies and the circumstances where officers have to judge whether the person holding cryptocurrencies is doing legal work or illegal. This is very good step in my opinion. Thread here

But police department is relatively less smart and educated (no offence) and it is really hard to train police officers regarding legality/illegality of cryptos and different situations.

They must not be entertaining any FIR and since there is a bank ban, I doubt anyone would go about filing any FIT of being cheated in P2P transactions. When this bank ban was not introduced, the police refused to file even my FIR and had to complain to the higher authorities who advised me to be more careful rather than arresting the culprit who was an Indian.

The main reason why the Police are not entertaining crypto-related FIRs is that there is no clear picture as to how the Law sees Cryptocurrencies. Media claims that Bitcoin is Ponzi, RBI bans crypto-related transactions. These are the things that the general Police are aware of. And, when you get scammed by someone and go to them to file a complaint, they see you as a Ponzi promoter and a violator of the RBI rules. So, they'll advise you rather than take your case. This situation will prevail until the Govt comes with some sort of regulation  Undecided

But police department is relatively less smart and educated (no offence) and it is really hard to train police officers regarding legality/illegality of cryptos and different situations.

I disagree with this part. When you educate them with outdated information and train them with outdated tech, they'll be obviously less smart. It all depends on how you train your employees after you recruit them and how often you use a specific set of skill to solve a problem.

Any kind of fraudulent activity with cryptocurrency is a cyber crime as well. I guess you can file a complaint with providing accurate information. It is straightforwardly documented that cryptocurrency crimes are cyber crime & these are subjected to file a complain. Since they are allowing complaint with cryptocurrency fraudulent activity, I guess the complainant will not get harassed, nor they will bash him.

well according to south East Delhi police it's zero FIR but the total number of FIR under cryptocurrency in whole Delhi is 10.So far only 10 FIR logged under crypto scam/frauds

well FIR number is really less if we compare it with over crowed Delhi  Grin, now Government's institute offering blockchain training in many Cities so very soon we will have new generation of experts in the crypto world from India Cheesy

@Money Bhai,

Blockchain training is not really related to cryptos. It is related to blockchain only which doesn't have any relation with cryptos. Cryptos are just one of the use cases of blockchain. Apart from crypto, blockchain can be used in many other domain. So don't mix these two things!

It's really great to know that crypto related FIRs are really less in numbers. But it doesn't really gives us confidence about the future of cryptos in India. The current Indian government is regressive in nature and you can only expect bad news about it.

Availability of cyber cells in every state is very low so filing a complaint will take more expenses than actual scammed money and more over nothing will happen even after complaint,it will just be in pending forever so people accept that they lost their money and will try to be more smart next time while dealing with cryptos.

If someone defrauds you even if you are purchasing cow dung and you forwarded the amount and you are yet to get the product you can approach the police station and file an FIR, if the junior officer is not accepting the case then he can proceed with the case with a higher official (IPS ranked), the approach the police officials usually takes for a fraud case is that they will call up the other person and ask to settle the amount and will file an FIR to have a record and usually they try to sort the issue without going to the court and if the other person is not responding then the police officials will advice you to approach the court but the problem is that it might take ten to fifteen years to have a settlement on a case in India.

It's really great to know that crypto related FIRs are really less in numbers. But it doesn't really gives us confidence about the future of cryptos in India. The current Indian government is regressive in nature and you can only expect bad news about it.
Like they said about Stedsm case the duty officers might not be willing to take up the case and hence we might be seeing low number of complaints.
About the government, it is a hopeless case.

I think numbers are fewer cuz people afraid to go in police cuz of our law system which is not up to the mark, but i don't know why, but I think if current govt doesn't support crypto then no hope from other groups.they are regressive but somehow current govt is teach lover too, so there is some hope ... finger crossed

I hope you meant the present government is tech lover. I agree to this point as i am hearing about the manipulation of EVM machines during the elections and hence the BJP government was able to win once again. They were aggressively advertising on social media too and in that regard they are tech lovers but they are not using it the right way as they are spending million to outsource to different private companies to do the job rather than doing it themselves and that is the issue.
