Trump does an Obama Trick, and Twitter has pronounced it as World War III

The tensions between US and Iran took a turn for the worse, when Trump ordered the execution of Soleimani who’s was an top Iranian commander.

While there’s no doubt in my mind that Soleimani was perceived as a threat by the US, however the timing wasn’t right for his execution as Trump is already facing a battle for retaining his presidency and on top of that Kim has also declared that he’ll be firing rockets soon.

We all will surely remember how Obama declared war and was able to retain his presidency for the second term, and it seems to me that Trump has also followed in Obama’s footsteps.

Twitter users have declared Trump’s actions as the start of World War III, and have managed to keep the hashtag : World War III trending on Twitter.

It was only yesterday that I had said in a different thread that Trump will not retaliate against Iran, but I guess I was wrong and this act by US is a signal that a war is indeed coming.

I have couple of questions if anyone can answer these kindly do so:

1) What will happen to US economy if they start a war with Iran?

2) Will Trump be able to convince Boris to join him in this war, if yes will Boris be forced to delay Brexit?.

3) Does Iran have nuclear weapons and if they do have will they target it on US and their allies.

4) Why aren’t the world leaders trying and getting both countries to back off before a full blown war starts.

Main difference was Obama killed a guy that pretty much most people has agreed was a terrorist. Sure it angered nuclear-armed Pakistan we know Pakistan ain't firing a nuke at the US.

This one was another state's official so it'll have a larger implication. Iran will probably not retaliate with a nuke over one person though I think they'll definitely harass US ships.

Not positive how it works, but I think if we go to war, NATO goes to war, and UK is part of NATO.  I don't think any country could just say 'we're going to sit this one out'.

I don't think it will affect Brexit.  Not all EU members are NATO members.  I don't think the EU is capable of 'going to war'.

The Obama deal ensured that it would take Iran about a year to produce enough Uranium to be a real threat, and the deal ended mid 2018, so it's possible I guess, but that's just for the raw material so I think it's unlikely. At the time some people said maybe in a couple years, some said it could take them up to 10 years to develop the technology.

4) Why aren’t the world leaders trying and getting both countries to back off before a full blown war starts.

Some probably are.  I wouldn't blame them for doing it privately in Trumps case.  Doing it publicly could easily backfire.  Turkey and Saudi Arabia share borders with Iran and Israel isn't far, I would imagine they are all working closely with our intelligence.

I wouldn't be surprised if Putin was also trying to calm down Iran right now.

If we go to war with Iran there will be no real winners.

USA liquidated as the media say the second most important man in Iran, and Iran is answered how? Nothing, one big nothing and I don't believe anything will happen, let alone some kind of war.

It's always wise to look at things from a different perspective, and in this case, it may not all look the way it seems. It is possible that Iran itself is involved in the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, in a way that they have given away the time and location to US intelligence. People are expendable, and perhaps the general became a burden to be dealt with.

Regardless of public intolerance between the US and Iran, I believe that there is another side that still cooperates on some issues. This can be a classic trade, you deliver us a general, and in return, the US will soften the sanctions in the future.

I don't think people understand the amount of blood that someone like this has on their hands. He was the second most powerful man in Iran, approving many attacks against the US (most recently the attacks on the US embassy and attacks which led to the death of a US contractor)

He is someone who has worked hand and hand with people who have killed hundreds of Americans and have authorized the killings of Americans. He is someone who is ACTIVELY planning the further attacks of Americans and would have continued to do so.

Killing someone like this sends a clear message to the people in Iran, and enforced a line in the sand that should've been acted on a long time ago. Killing Americans is NEVER going to be tolerated, and you will be punished for doing so.

That's the kind of message that should be sent to people.

Trump can't go on a full fledged attack on Iran now and neither could Iran. Both of them can't afford that now.
The terms of US with it's key allies are at lowest and its hard for him to get support from Europe and Turkey. Saudi would gladly join on a war against Iran but Iran is not as easy as Iraq to get defeated. There are no allies of Iran that would support attacking on US. Engaging against US would not be beneficial to any power.
If Iran could play it cool, they could get some benefit from the situation. While US is losing it anyway.

Looks like I was wrong to assume that Iran stopped adhering to the Nuclear deal when Trump stopped honoring it.  There were several other countries involved that continued to honor it, and Iran did as well, until a few days ago when they announced they would no longer honor it.

This means that the clock started just this week, not May 2018 like I thought, and if there's no intervention or agreement they could have enough uranium to build a nuclear weapon as soon as 8-12 months from now, although some experts say it could take much longer.

So to answer your question, no, they definitely do not have a nuclear weapon right now.  Thank god.
