Holy sh*t!!  I shed a tear for them.

 Cry

Better not pushing your SP20 with some random PSU. Have fire extinguisher near by and get a Nest fire detector (or any smart detector)

No need to be a stupid troll about it, its obviously a hastily setup on the cheap farm with dodgy wiring. Once an electrical fire starts like that in that sort of setup there is no stopping it.

Could have been caused by any number of reasons. And has zero to do with the SP20 seeing as all of those machines are SP30  Roll Eyes

Dumbfck i know full well they're SP30. Its not uncommon for the fire to start from PSU. It happened to several ppl back in GPU days.

What a fcking noob

So why troll about the SP20? And as for the noob dig.. you sound like a 6 year old girl if thats your comeback LOL

Well, he (cowboyminer) says that he had 3 buildings burned down.
However, even 5mw is "just" ~7Ph or 2.3% of the network. The dip is something else or he had another 10 buildings that he switched off.
Regardless, it is a major upset for these guys.
5MW is about 1,666 Sp30  5000000/3000 = 1666
Each machine only made about 5BTC so far for a total 8330 BTC worth only: $3.5million
However, 1666 SP30 cost: 7.5 million.  probably with a .5Million volume discount..
Total loss: at least 2.5 Million
You could buy another nice house for that much.

I hope that they had insurance...

I really hope they had insurance.  Will insurance even cover this is the question.  Look at how they were setup.  Pretty horrible job if you ask me.

DC's will be thinking twice before allowing people to host this gear now, at least at unrealistic densities. Imports may receive greater scrutiny.

Why would they?

It had a lot of praise at the initial setup-did not look horrible at all. You cannot look at the wreck of a BMW and say: gosh, what a s#$@y car!

It was a cowboy DC though, no reputable DC would rack them at those density levels. They were asking for trouble. Plus the entire thing most probably including the wiring was done all on the cheap to maximise profitability. They just took it too far in the density stakes and overloaded their wiring it looks like.

I wrote it before - source of the fire is yet unknown.
Arson wasn't ruled out. AFAIK, no insurance.
It was in Thai news: http://www.thairath.co.th/content/456629

Sad story, good people. Very bad luck with mining. It's not the first mishap.
I've visited their facility when they had only SP10 and Dragons. I was impressed.

I'm properly stunned.
How could they could invest in that scale of set-up and not install an inert gas fire suppression system?
What a horrible way to learn an important lesson.

Probably a world record for hashing density.
Extremely low cost and effective deployment method. Behind the SP30s are huge (not huge enough, or too hugh to fan the flames.) fans.

You guys still into hardware? Been a bust for a while now and doesn't seem like it will keep up. And if anything, when the major US holiday comes around coin will drop again and then be stagnate for quite a while. I'd hate to have a bunch of mining hardware trying to pay for electric bill. Voice of pessimism here.

I'm not thinking twice about it.

I bet the fire started in their electrical infrastructure -- transformer, distribution panel, etc -- not in a power supply or a miner. There's not much flammable material inside a miner. However, they may have installed a transformer near to a wood wall, then overloaded the transformer or wired it up without adequate fuse protection.

Hosting bitcoin miners for $65 to $80/kW/month on clean, cheap hydro power.

The buildup was definitely not according to US electric code

Why?  The insurance payout will be more then they would earn in their lifetime.

Im surprised its in Thailand. They dont have good electrical rate at all.

My guess would be laundering money for triangle drug lords ( Myanmar, Cambodia and Thailand).

Gone from 1.3x to 1.5x 1.665TH and climbing now, back temperatures gone from 37 to 67°C 77°C!
Keep your room cozy and warm in the winter ...

I am going to have to do something about the fan though, this thing is loud! Louder than all my other miners combined.

If I can't do anything about it I'll have to sell it I think Sad

This is the fan used in the SP20.. beast of a thing!

You guys probably never thought of this but i bet the fire started from the collapse of those shelves.

A quick calculation shows they load 600kg per shelf.  Undecided pure stupidity

Each rack has 1800kg = boom
