Jeez, I didn't realize the BFL stuff was that bad. How the hell did they turn ~0.3J/GH at the chip based on real tests into 0.84J/GH at the wall? More shenanigans there.

A dumb question.

Can SP30 (September Batch) get upgraded with the latest firmware ?

Or is it only for the SP31/35?

Thanks in advance.

In conclusion, the Antminer S5 is a top tier miner. It's cheaper & cooler than it's closest counterpart (SP20) and is available to ship from stock for as low as $480 on amazon.com.  I am definitely grateful to Bitmain for the opportunity to review this product and I will keep my eye on their offerings in the future.  If you are searching for a cheap, competitive mining product with lots of customization opportunities, you can't go wrong with the S5 from Bitmain.  I even purchased an additional unit for my mining operation at retail price and was happy to do so.

Offtopic: Until Bitstamp resumes where do Europeans go to exchange their BTC to fiat? I only user Bitstamp and GOX in the past and I don't know of any other reliable european exchangers.

Don't forget you get what you pay for.  Bitmain hardware, unfortunately, now has a reputation for being lower quality.  Also their customer service tends to be pretty poor as well.

Kraken-not sure how reliable it is and it is in US geographically (San Fran), but , paradoxically, mostly trades in BTC/euros.

I am afraid to use Kraken and I don't care about the EUR trades. I can trade and receive money in $ too. Guess I can use Coinbase too, but I don't like the fact that they take a peek into my transactions.

The current/on going reduction in bitcoin price had me thinking this weekend about our vendors.  Remember the good old days of Bitmain pricing merchandise in bitcoin instead of USD?  Yes there are wild fluctuations in btc price, but if the vendors don't think enough about it to use it as value instead of basing products on USD, why should anyone else? Just something to think about.

SP-T, what's your reason for using USD?

So if SP-T is going to compare the SP20 to S5, can we get S5 pricing?  They are down to $353 each for a 2 pack shipped to US.  If you are changing, then I want to change my order to a mini-farm Smiley

Yeah, saw that.  It changed after I placed my 4 unit order through the GB.  I would have thought a GB would be better pricing than 3 unit orders. Sad

BITMAIN, Build a miner,  would like it should be . Along with the bottom and covered top, with two silent fan. Why do I have to take one of S3 and one S5 ,   to get a normal product ? This has to be the right S5

This time Ognasty's opinion is simply ridiculous. He describes the measurements of 661 W for 1.13 TH/s as "cheaper and cooler" than 640 W for 1.2 TH/s.
The most important factor is now the temperature of output air, eh? Next time just compare the prices instead of running the hardware.
Obviously even legendary account in no guarantee of righteous opinion as it can be fooled into so "grateful" rubbish. And Bitmain lost their blamelessness too for such quoting.
