I can't say for sure as all I currently have is the EVGA 1300's. I was just trying to get the sound level down to where I could be in the same room without going mad.

You can take the fan even lower via SSH if you want.  There was a post a few pages back explaining how.

I use these noise-canceling headphones, when I'm flying. They can filter out static noise very well, maybe they work with miner-sound too?

very good point. I have 8 sp20's they are a better piece of gear then the s-5.  In my home I will never be able to run 8 s-5's.

But I will end up owning a few of them tearing them down and running them with a mod or two.

The real problem we are having is not gear quality we are having people not understanding the demand for coins is more important then the need to have more hashing power.

Coins are 277 usd cheaper gear and more hash does not fix the fact that  coins price dropped from 350 usd just a week ago.

I'd like to limit the SP20 to run at 700W at the wall (so that 2 can run on a single 120V/15A circuit); any tips on how best to achieve that? I'm thinking that reducing the starting/max voltages will be sufficient, but I'd like to hear what others here are doing to run these at lower powers and higher efficiencies.

Ambient/intake temperature will be 25C or a few degrees higher. Noise is not an issue. I have a kill-a-watt meter so that power draw can be easily measured. Thanks in advance.

Anyone know if there's a port setting to change in CryptoGlance to get the SP20 info to show up? I'm guessing something is not correct as other manufacturer's machines show up and I've seen screen shots on here of someone having it working.

You have a W limit for each of the 4 chains so just limit them. for example if the front ones (1 and 3) are limited to 180 and the rear ones (2 and 4) are set at 145 or so, you should get the about 700W at wall usage depending on your PSU rating

Also set your starting voltage low, (must be lower than max) once it levels out go back and adjust starting voltage to where you are .005 from the stable voltage for each chain.

I concur. The key to maximizing efficiency on a limit watt budget is to limit the max voltage. I set mine to .63 to stay under 700 watts at the wall. You could go up to .64 or maybe .65 depending on conditions (PSU efficiency, intake temps, etc).

Have you opened the API port by changing cgminer.conf? if not-

SSH into the SP20, /etc/cgminer.conf, change the W:127.0.0.1 to W:0/0 and you should be all set.

Personally I like metal case.  I will gladly pay the difference between good gear and low quality.    Sure you could do no case, no temp sensors, etc.  At that point your more at prisma level.   I think SP gear is quality gear I think they will continue the trend.

I agree. Metal case is good thing but ROI is very hard this days...
