Thanks for creating this unique topic. It always amuses me of how everyone in terms of posting change into a better person over the time here. Right from the beginning I have skimmed through the starting posts of the top posters here and I really feel grateful how good this forum has changed them over time and has helped them in bringing out their real potential. Almost 90% of the posters started off here as shitposters, trying to earn money etc and have changed to by far the best posters this forum has encountered. I would never quote myself as a decent poster/good quality poster as that is completely based on other's perception on me and how well I post/help others. But to be quite true, this forum has changed me a lot in terms of my real life and in my postings as well.

I started off as a shitposter, but eventually got interested in the varied technology behind the workings of Alts and have been learning about the same quite deeply for over 7-8 months from my registration date. I was very active in Altcoin Discussion and was answering tech based questions by hunting them in the frog pond. Over time it was quite difficult to hunt good quality technical questions in the board and I certainly started learning about the technology behind bitcoin.

This can be considered as a major shift in my posting behavior from learning about tech behind Alts to tech behind Bitcoin. Later after knowing a little about the tech, learning to test Bitcoin Core PRs, translating the whole Bitcoin Core from scratch in my local language, I shifted towards knowing about the Collectibles and did learn a lot about the same. Once I got to know about almost 50-75% of the collectibles section, I shifted towards improving my local board. (Right up-to that moment I made only one post in my local board)

The local board seems to be better now with far less spam and quality contributions emerging and right after this I would like to shift towards the Mining section  Shocked Though I can consider myself as a Brand New member in Mining, I would like to learn a lot about that and simultaneously translate the bitcoin.org website in my native language from scratch.

The future would be like after knowing about Mining, I would like to spend a significant time on all the above and would like to have a deep and complete study of everything. Though I got to know about bitcoin only at the end of 2016, I never had an idea on what it is really about. All these were known only through this forum.  Smiley

I wonder how many people will be checking their older posts today and having a purge of all the ones they don't like  Grin.

It would be interesting to know how many have edited their deep histories. That may well have happened in pursuit of a long con. It's the ones who delete everything I find most mysterious. For starters that must take freaking forever unless there's a bot to do it and second I wonder what there is to hide. Surely not every post is evil and incriminating.

Almost 90% of the posters started off here as shitposters, trying to earn money etc and have changed to by far the best posters this forum has encountered.

I really can't remember why I signed up and the idea of earning money either didn't exist then or didn't occur to me. It would be interesting to hear from more who signed up in 2011/12 or before and what their motivations were. The idea of making a living from your internet cafe through it would've been non existent.

Almost 90% of the posters started off here as shitposters, trying to earn money etc and have changed to by far the best posters this forum has encountered.

You signed up one month before I joined the forum and signature campaigns were definitely here then, at least PrimeDice was. I don't think they were the first either but were certainly the most popular at the time. I think Stunna has commented somewhere in Meta on this and the history of campaigns somewhere if you wanted to search for it. I remember being quite annoyed that I'd made over 100 posts before I discovered PD were paying for them. I'd seen the PrimeDice signatures everywhere but didn't realise PD were actually paying for them. At first I couldn't quite believe it because the top amount you could earn per month was about £300-500 a month or something for about 400 posts which is a decent amount for merely posting on a forum. The rates even went up over time and then again when signature restrictions came in with ranks. The spam was kept to a minimum back then but it quickly grew into a problem and practically became its own industry. Now it's mostly been taken over by ICOs but the bitcoin paying ones have certainly dwindled. Back in the day anyone could sign up and start earning top amounts but that obviously started to become abused very swiftly and hence the need for rank restrictions and then even further down the line merit.

I really can't remember why I signed up and the idea of earning money either didn't exist then or didn't occur to me. It would be interesting to hear from more who signed up in 2011/12 or before and what their motivations were. The idea of making a living from your internet cafe through it would've been non existent.

Well it probably would be the same reasons why anyone joins a forum on a particular subject. Usually because they're very interested in the topic and want to either discuss about it or learn more. I'd heard of bitcoin probably a few months before I joined the forum and I was very exited about it. At first it was because the political and economical aspects of it that interested me, but I also saw the potential of it as an investment opportunity once I'd read into it more. I actually first heard about bitcoin due to the news coverage it got because people were using it on sites Silk Road. I'd joined a few forums before, mostly of my favourite bands, and had even become a mod of a couple of them, but posting on them and not here quickly became a waste of time really especially when time was money here. I've mentioned this here in the past before, but you often get the older jaded members of a forum who become snobby and unwelcoming to newbies and outgrow it. One board of a band I was a mod at was inhabited by a lot of users who didn't even like the actual band anymore and had turned into snobby condescending hipsters who were now too cool for everything and only cared about the bands that nobody had heard of, but they stuck around like a bad smell making it unpleasant for everyone else, especially the fans of the actual band. The atmosphere really became so toxic that most Newbies just left soon after they joined because it was so unwelcoming and it got so bad that the actual fans even created their own new site and forum. I guess it's not so dissimilar to the other boards that have been created as an alternative to this one but you would think that if people lost interest in bitcoin they would leave.

Back in the day, I spent most of my time on "Micro Earnings" board and I was scared to post in the "Meta" board [that's a fact Cheesy] since everything was and still is a bit on the serious side...
- Most of my posts lacked enough quality and I had a lot of spelling & grammar mistakes (still not perfect).

Have you been consistent throughout, become a better person, or become mad and embittered?
From your previous thread [definitely a better person]:

~Snipped~
  • It helped me significantly in improving my English [still not perfect].
  • Changed me into someone that reads way more than I used to be [when I wake up, before I sleep and whenever I have some free time at work/home] and that resulted in me gaining some weight but it's fine Cheesy
  • To summarize the above things: "This forum is responsible for turning me from a boy into a man."

Thanks for making me read my first few posts [on this forum] after a very long time [you've made my day] Smiley

I have re-read the first few months of my time here & the posts are fucking embarrassing to say the least. I really was a cringeworthy little noob in 2014.

I’m a far more refined gentleman these days. I’m sitting on fat bitcoin bags, happy I came here in 2014 but slightly embarrassed at the first few months of posting.

If Blockchain.info did a MtGox are my coins safe as I have a note of my bitcoin address (the long number/letter thing)

I bought most of my BTC about 6 months ago when the price was about 400 GBP.
The price is 209 GBP as I type this so yeah I'm pretty pissed off right now.

I'm going to hold all of my coins just incase BTC goes to the moon but the price is going down seemingly every day.
I think BTC is dying.

I think I'll be delighted if we reach 10,000 USD per BTC.
I'll make a life changing amount of money then.
I can't see 100,000 per BTC in my lifetime (late 20's).

I’m stopping now Cheesy

I just had a quick catty judge. You definitely had the right perspective from the off. Lots of vision for the future unlike most. You also seem to have nursed a lengthy and deep seated obsession with blockchain.info but I guess that's understandable if you coins were in there. I can't remember how long I stuck with them but it was a while.

I stayed there about 6 months until I learnt that you have to control your own coins by controlling your own keys.
I’m the only person who has any control over my bitcoin’s now which is the way it should be.

I still have a wallet there but my proper stash isn’t on there. You can’t trust Ver!

Oh boy! Where do I even start... TL: DR I am fucking embarrassed with what my 17-year-old ass did to get my hands on some BTCs...

P.S Dunno why I spammed all these emojis below...

I learned about Bitcoin in early 2013 I believe and then I joined bitcointalk in 2014... I was 17 back then... I was just shitposting to get my rank up but then again I did not even know the word shitposting existed Tongue ... if I remember correctly You had to post 14 times every 2 weeks I believe to get 14 activity points... my goal was to get to the "hero member" rank for some reason, Signature campaign wasn't it  Shocked . I think it had to do with Avatar, Only hero and above could have an Avatar... That was my 17-year-old ass's priority... To get an Avatar on an internet forum...  Cool But then I learned about the signature campaigns and once I got into one my posting "quality" went down the drain. It was EZ Bitcoins for my 18-year-old ass back then... I was saving them up! I had this goal back then to save Bitcoins till the next moon! The only smart thing I have done in my entire life... Then I got placed in SMAS Grin... Lauda and co became my ENEMY!  Grin Some people tried to raise voice against their regime but failed to over through them, they were just too powerful to be overthrown Tongue

Anyway, after a while, I realized that I was indeed shitposting and there is no such thing as Free Lunch... I genuinely tried helping the newbies here and genuinely took part in discussions, my posting quality improved automatically... I appealed to Lauda and Co and I was removed from the SMAS on my 1st appeal, I realized at that point that Lauda and Co weren't evil people as painted by other people here Tongue they were just trying to help improve the community Tongue Then I kinda laid low and focused on my "Learning", learning adobe suite, Unity3d and stuff... bitcointalk went on a back burner of sorts... I have to say this I was still "shitposting" but at a lower level in campaigns saving all those BTCs Tongue ( you can never save them enough ) but then stopped altogether once I started freelancing. Long story short, I am fucking embarrassed with my younger self for being naive and a "greedy" fuck!

My 1st post on Bitcointalk: Turns out I wasn't a believer after all Tongue
Quote

For some reason, my 17-year-old ass thought you could make "profit" by lending 5 bucks!  Grin

Fighting scammers + Fighting for transparent rules that ensure all members are treated equally does not change over time. Until the time those transparent rules are implemented and the scammers are gone. Therefore NO CHANGE.

This forum is the most important forum on the net.

After reading your post, I took sometime to examine myself and I must say I have changed completely. I went searching through past post record and I noticed my very first post plus most posts on the 1st & 2nd page of my post history has been edited by me to trash (delete) meaning obviously the post weren't contributing anything positive to the forum. That's not surprising since I didn't start quite well on the forum, most of my early posts are nothing to write home about but I got better, improving on my post quality (english and construction) as my involvement on the forum increased.

Judging from others recent reaction to my posts, from the DMs of acknowledgement of the impact of my threads, to them seeking for permission to translate some of my works (threads). I guess I'm doing something right and on the right track. But if I was to point out one major difference it has to be my English. Although it's not yet perfect, I'm observing some major improvement.

i deleted old posts.  but i was on bitminter threads quite a bit. i always was interested in mining.

It's all part of the journey.

If someone admitted to going through all their own early posting and reediting to make themselves look cool I'd regard them as a vastly bigger and vain twat than someone who left their early drivel in place.

Hi there
Hello there General Steamtyme! You sound more like young Obi-Wan in your earlier days  Grin
Well I have always enjoyed being high on ground... I mean the higher ground. We have both made questionable choices that have ended badly lol. I'll take it

Another interesting feature of the early posts of many is that they were clearly already mining before signing up here. As a noob mining never occurred to me for a second. I'm not sure why.

if i wasnt a pc builder i doubt id ever bother mining. then it was another reason to build a rig - this time as an investment. looking back though i wasted so much time tinkering with it id rather just bought the coins i was mining. also, lots of potential bitcoin growth has been dampened by the hardware manufacturer's profits they've made off this industry.

re the topic. i believe that this status thing is playing up with forumer's egos a bit so is a good indicator to their inner world.
