The festive season are fast going behind us and what can come to the mind of many about festive season is the act of giving. But giving should not only be done only during festive season it should not even be based on time or season.

I made an effort of recent and I was pleased with the out come -well it nothing all that big-.  I happen to have changed my phone of recent after my previous one could not meet up to the demands of what I need from a phone infact it was no where close so I changed it. But I thought rather than dispose of it, I should just make a some repairs on it since it could do some primary phone functions and giving it out to someone and I did.

I gave it out to someone I notice don't have a phone some thing like an anonymous gifter the person did not know who gave her the phone but from all indications was happy with my little gift and life improved a bit for her.
Very often we give out aids to agency or organization that offer's relief or aids to people far sway well am not against that. But they say Charity begin's at home so possible that even some of this agency might not be sincere and the aid my not reach The targeted people.

You can just start giving out things you not in use of or have more than one to people of your locality let's say you got two bikes and your neighbor don't have any and you think deserve one even if it's a lease without payment you can offer it to him or her. Act of giving in the society can.
- reduce theft and increase peace: when you lack something and was gifted it the urge to steal would be killed and maybe that act of kindness might just put the urge to the grave completely.
- increase good healthy community relationship.
-increase the standard of living of the receiver.
- and general joy for both the giver and the receiver just to mention but a few.
So next time you about to dispose that cloth or any other stuff that's not damaged just remember that individual few blocks away from you

The move to an ultra-consumerist society has had major consequences on the way we think and act, and the way in which we treat other people. Acquisition of wealth has become the barometer of success, and the purchase of goods has become at least in part a means of displaying that wealth. We no longer buy what we need so much as what we want - or what we are told we want. Desire for new goods is instilled in us through pervasive advertising. Society has become ultra-individualist, and the focus has switched inwards towards personal gain. Other people are often framed as competitors. This is to the detriment of society.

Ethical consumerism is one response to this, as is charitable giving. I've mentioned them before, but GiveWell is an excellent (and impartial) online charity evaluator that works with (and, for transparency, provides) huge amounts of data to determine which methods of giving are most effective.

I made an effort of recent and I was pleased with the out come
There is in fact a gathering body of evidence (such as this experiment) to suggest that we experience more pleasure from helping others than we do from helping ourselves. Perhaps consumerism is just a phase, and the future is brighter and more altruistic than we think.  Smiley

There's this thing I heard that I believe that money only really makes people who they really are. A selfish person will remain selfish even when he become rich. A person who otherwise would have become generous if it wasn't for poverty would be free to become generous when he become rich.

The more affluent a society becomes, the more number people are free to become altruistic. This is a bit optimistic of me but since altruism is a desirable trait in partners, it would get selected for.

I commend you for your effort. I was also trying to get my mom to dispose clothes that don't fit her anymore but has pretty much stopped. We don't really have anything else to give away except give some of our food (when we do have extra) to some relatives nearby that have less.

I think most people can be charitable if they have enough for their own needs, if it's not much of a hassle for them or if they don't forget about it. I heard in some countries people are automatically signed up for organ donations and this has increased donations, since sometimes even when people sign up on their own, it's forgotten when the donor dies.

Maybe they can remove a part of the money taken from paychecks and ask the person to declare what charity they want that sent to and they can change that any time.

I agree that it would be hard to change someone's nature that if he doesn't have the giving attitude might to be willing to give Even in affluence or not.
But some one can't just be selfish just because they came out of poverty Rather them haven been in poverty before should make them more ready to give out

Well their wallet, their choice. That they used to be poor doesn't mean they'll automatically feel bad for the poor.

The only thing we can do it sort of try to do some social engineering on a large scale. In the past when people mostly live in hamlets everyone knows who's stingy and who's generous and the community responds to them accordingly. Being greedy could mean no one would want to work with you so people have incentives to be generous to an extent.

Thank you very much I agree with you because donating this idea to social support is a virtue. All of this depends on the views of people in society Those who wish to donate will help the people of the society whether rich or poor If we all have an opinion like this then every person's future is bright In order to enrich society the discrimination between the rich and the poor must be eliminated.

Great Idea and also thank you for sharing this amazing solution. I have been searching for Yamaha bike for a month now and never found anything that helped me. I was worried as my bike had issues and I contacted with the Yamaha showroom but they didn't have any solution for this. So, again this was very helpful and this will literally solve my problem.

Smartphones doesn't provide any aid to people. Some of them might be harmed by a gift like this.
It would be better if you have made a donation of food or something tangible that would be used by anyone - even from kids - and they are in need of... It is a good move though considering the fact that you didn't ask for a payback about that.
