I've heard mixed information about scrypt mining hardware. At first I heard that it was designed to be GPU resistant, but almost all scrypt mining is done with GPUs. Now I hear it will be difficult or impossible to make a scrypt ASIC. Is this true?

scrypt ASIC are not like sha-256 ASIC , they are not as powerful therefore they will not push out the gpu miners.

There are some badboy ASIC miners coming out from Q2 this year, check out Zeusminer and Excalibur... They will be OK for pure scrypt mining but you leave yourself open for changes in the algo, which GPU's can handle fairly easily...

I was recently worried about these and almost put an order in... Then I discovered algo's like Scrypt-Jane & Keccak and realised this is where the fun is at...

The new generation have arrived and they brought their own currency...
